asheville area conservation land: Star-Gazing- Asheville-Style - 05/25/11 09:05 AM
When was the last time you camped in the forest and gazed up through the sentinels, the trees, at the starry sky above?

Here is a photo I took last week while on an assignment for a Land Buyer concerned with light pollution. " Hundreds of millions of lights are poorly designed. They send light up, down, and all around instead of where the light should be directed (toward the ground)." Termed 'light pollution',  all those lights wash out the night sky ruining the beauty of the cosmos for all.
Fortunately, many in the Greater Asheville, NC area consider our night skies … (10 comments)

asheville area conservation land: NC Mountain Homes (2) That Attractive Quality - 09/20/10 09:25 AM
COREY ATHERTON is one of our favorite real estate experts here in the Asheville area.He has a great handle on land and home values. In the post that follows, COREY points out the excellent features of one of our favorite conservation developments in the Asheville area. This development, CRESTON, protects over 1,000 acres of land that adjoins the 65,000 acre Pisgah National Forest.
As COREY says, " NC mountain homes have an attractive quality. Having been on board at Creston for many years, I can tell you that this "attractive quality" is underscored here! The concept is to keep it simple, … (1 comments)

asheville area conservation land: The Best Mountain Land! ~Asheville NC - 08/21/10 02:25 PM
What is the best mountain view land in Western North Carolina?  I can't tell you the number of times we have been asked that question. It is not easy to answer because, here in Asheville NC,  the response must take into account a number of amazing Asheville area eco developments.
Environmentally-friendly, these sustainable developments have grown up around your demand for nature and energy-wise home places. They are urban sanctuaries and/or a retreat-like settings. Many are graced with abundant water sources,  waterfalls, meadows, hiking trails and gathering spots for picnics beneath grandmother trees. If you are looking for time and space to … (2 comments)

asheville area conservation land: Asheville ~From Beneath Our Umbrella on an April Sunday - 04/25/10 07:53 AM

From beneath our umbrella here in Asheville this morning, we emerge... after a wild rainstorm with huge thunderclaps and brilliant lightning that lit the moonless mountainside in the wee hours ...to this view. It seems a miracle almost. The air is clean and crisp...trees bordering a canvas of promising Carolina Blue in the sky...birds in a chorus of delight after our April Showers...
Smiling, I wonder what the visiting Obamas thought of all the excitement...Asheville-style ...

asheville area conservation land: Speechless Sunday: Winter Moon- Pure Possibility- Asheville NC - 03/14/10 12:49 PM
There it was. Silent. Yet so present. I was startled to see it floating like a harbinger of itself predicting the fullness of possibility at midnight.  The moon- over our valley in Asheville- just in time for High Tea. Taking my camera from my pocket, I snapped this picture and thought, with happy expectations, of what might come to be. . ..

One of my favorite eco communities in the Asheville area (and please note, Asheville is the  "hub' of green and sustainable development) is Hickory Nut Forest.Numerous eco-communities are popping up in and around Asheville, but Hickory Nut Forest is demonstrating how to go about creating an eco--community. This video shows how folks got together to build a community center. (see video).

Dateline Asheville, North Carolina, September, 2009News and Views from Asheville's "GREEN-O-Lina"
For anyone looking at loan modification and/or mitigation, whether you live in Asheville, NC or Anytown, USA,  a gigantic hurry-up-and-wait process is certain.  You rush to get all the required paperwork together, and then to send it off "post haste"... You dash to meet advisors with pertinent information, and  then slowly, slowly  try to make sense of that information.
Somewhere along the way you discover that there are tens of thousands (and more) people trying to do just what you are doing. The loan people don't have the software they … (8 comments)

asheville area conservation land: Asheville's Labor Day Butterfly - 09/07/09 07:46 PM
What better way to engage your energy on Labor Day than to head out to the mountains near Asheville in search of a worthy enterprise. For me, today that included a hike at Creston Preserve and the less strenuous pursuit of a beautiful blue butterfly who turned out to like the camera. Happy Pursuit for me...and I hope for You, too!

Sitting on my upper deck the other evening, I noticed a tree that seemed to have sprouted overnight.
I took this photo right away. I was amazed and curious.
I had a sense that this tree could even be "dangerous" to those who happened upon it unexpectedly.
The leaves on this "Tree" looked somehow familiar:  leaves alternating, with 3 leaflets, each smooth margined or shallowly lobed.
Germination: We have had a lot of rain this year, I mused. Could that have … (14 comments)

News and Views from Asheville's Greenolina, Real Estate Eco-Steward
I'm sharing here Parts 1  and 2 of  a letter that one of our eco-friendly conservation land buyers'received from a member of the "Green Team" at our Firm.
The reason why? Simple. Sometimes people are unaware of the research and energy that goes into the practice of real estate. Sometimes this can be distressing to folks like those seen in the photo ..real estate professionals who spend hours and days preparing for a meeting with clients.....
So here is a clue on just what goes on … (3 comments)

Take a deep breath and imagine yourself inspired by this waterfall.
That's what happened for us on our recent picnic and photo shoot at Three Creeks Preserve. Here we discovered a conservation neighborhood beyond compare.
Less than an hour from Asheville, NC., and just 4 miles from Lake Lure, NC,  we also discovered the secret to eco-friendly living at Three Creeks Preserve.
We had checked our map (see graphic)  and headed out in high anticipation.

David Tuch, VP at Equinox Environmental has a wealth of knowledge and experience. A presenter at the 2009 GREEN HOMES (and Land)  Tour, Tuch is involved in an array of eco-community developments in the Greater Asheville, NC area.
During the presentation time, Tuch, an expert consultant for the Mountain Landscapes Initiative, talked about  how  we can grow local economies in North Carolina's mountain region without threatening the natural assets that attract new people and new investment. He also looked at  how to adjust to change in the mountains without sacrificing community character and sense of place.
Following that thought he asked . . … (1 comments)

asheville area conservation land: Asheville "Scene " Around Town Photo Series: Getting Beyond the Board - 04/25/09 10:39 PM
Do you find that people tend to get engrossed in their own "thing"?  It is easy to forget the Carolina Bluesky..and all that  lies beyond including the heartbeat of the community. I just looked at the work Diane Aurit did in her community, and felt comforted to know that the tremble of widespread discomfort is somehow softened because she engages the hopes and dreams of others.
This photo reminds me to look inside, gain insight, and then look beyond... to the world outside..Possibly,what affects one of us, affects all of us. ....as we get beyond that solid barrier....
