asheville local expert: OBAMAS at Asheville's 12 Bones - 04/23/10 10:57 PM
Visitors to Asheville, NC  seem to enjoy our one-of-a-kind local eateries. Take for example this Presidential Couple caught on video at 12 Bones http://www.12bones.com/   today.
If you should happen to pick up on the "special energy" our mountain town enjoys, you could also find that urban living Asheville-style means walking to a favorite bakery for coffee and a fresh-baked delight, catching up with friends and colleagues at the farmers' tailgate markets, or simply strolling around the neighborhood for a "constitutional" after dinner.

asheville local expert: HORSES LOVE GREEN ASHEVILLE - 05/02/09 07:52 PM
We were out exploring Asheville horse farm lands with clients last week. This is the fifth tour for us. But each time we get a little closer to finding the "perfect" property. It's not easy when you love horses as much as our clients, do. I keep telling them HORSES LOVE GREEN ASHEVILLE, but they are used to the "flatlands" of FLorida . Possibly they worry that horses will be terrified of the terrain.
I took a picture of that "terrain" last week. It doesn't look all THAT scarey to me... and I have corroboration from horse-pals who live here. They nicker and snort … (0 comments)

asheville local expert: Land of Magic: Asheville - 04/11/09 04:08 PM

" APRIL FROSTING"
I awoke this morning to the call of a mockingbird. Then a cardinal pair sang the sun up. As the days lengthen and cold weather gets ready to escape the mountains, the Dance of the Princely Paw Paws  is forgotten. For there are adventures in the mountains ready to be had; an "April Frosting" on the seasonal cake, and I am on my way to gather as many as I can in the basket of life.
Asheville in the Spring! Land of fine  mystery and beauty. Of Magic.
Maybe, if you are lucky, the mists will clear over the mountain, as they did … (4 comments)

Eco-Stewards' GREEN LEARNING TOUR
Have you ever had a chance to experience- first-hand - a Gold Rated LEED certified building ?
If you haven't maybe you will guess how much I was looking forward to our visit to the Asheville's new Leed Certified Destination Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  I could hardly wait to talk with the Park Rangers about their experience of and in the building.
Like me, you may have been over-flowing with questions:

How does it  feel  each day?
What is the human experience where walls stand in saw-tooth formation, (see photo)

Land for Sale Asheville's Secret Conservation Gems- Photo Shoot
As chance would have it, we happened on land for sale that our eco-community minded clients will thrill to while out on a photo shoot on this  brilliant April Day.
There were the gentle slopes, the trails to easy then steep climbs, the Old Growth Grandfather Tree, the south-facing meadow, the cascading falls, the moss so old you were awestruck, and beside it, an Appalachian chimney ruin and ancient stone wall; places where continuity reigns and tranquility abides.
Here are a few moments we captured along the way. Let me know if, like us, YOU are a person … (5 comments)

asheville local expert: Asheville GREEN RELOCATION TOURS: Horse Farms and Equestrian Estates - 02/21/09 03:00 PM
I met a horse-loving visitor not long ago. She was thinking of relocating to Asheville and was looking for  "...a  turnkey organic farm with a good horse barn where  like-minded people could share the acreage and facilities... " .
I recommended she take on of the AshevilleGREEN RELOCATION TOURS specifically designed  for folks looking for horse farms and/or acreages.
Here in the Asheville area where sustainabilityis highly regarded and organic agriculture is on the rise, taking the time to get to know the area and topography, especially if you are into horses,  just makes sense to me. Rolling and  south-facing property is at … (3 comments)

On the recent Green-Builts of Asheville Tour  list,  one of the favorite stops is really just outside of Asheville, NC.  Still, it is a great place to settle down. You can relocate close to the town of Black Mountain and yet enjoy a feeling of the country (and on over an acre of land) .
This favorite stop on the tour is a green-built home that has been featured in Asheville's Parade of Homes.  (see photo)
It is NC Healthy Built & Energy Star Certified. In a park-like setting, with handcrafted, cedar-shake allure,  it welcomes potential relocation buyers with its  light filled rooms, large … (2 comments)

asheville local expert: Asheville Relocating: Grand GREEN Tours Make It Easier - 02/17/09 04:44 PM
Seems like almost every one who comes to the Happiest City in the USA (that's Asheville) wants to stake a claim here.
So wandering around taking in  Asheville's  landmarks, historic buildings, art galleries and shops soon seems to turn to a desire for deeper investigation of  sustainable and historic neighborhoods, horse farms and eco-communities, urban lofts, and expansive acreages.
Recently, I talked with the Eco Certified ®Real Estate Consultants  at a local firm. I had heard they offered a remedy for would-be property owners who just couldn't resist Asheville's allure and want to relocate......a particular kind of real estate tour.
 They told me...

asheville local expert: Greater Asheville Area Relocation: Our Amazing CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) and Lucky Consumers - 02/16/09 08:28 AM

asheville local expert: Asheville, NC Relocation : Where Sustainability is the By-Word - 02/14/09 05:19 PM
You could say that sustainability is the by-word here in Asheville.
So it is not surprising that my intuition, based on down-to-Earth observations, tells me that there is a significant public interest and shift (at least in the Asheville area) toward environmentally-sensitive residential properties like the one I photographed seen here just recently.
Could there be more evidence than this, for example, (see photo) a new urban, green-builthome in an eco-friendly neighborhood with neighborhood gardens (organic)  and congenial members of the community?

Here are just a few of the the features this home and the urban community offer

asheville local expert: Asheville NC Lifestyle: Land and Sky and Mountains...and QUALITY - 02/14/09 05:00 PM
As a land specialist here in the Greater Asheville, N.C. area,  I think about things like the quality of air and water and how that can impact our clients.
(Carolina Blue sky and mountains)
I think about the troposphere and stratosphere, and how each affects the quality of life on Earth differently.
As a former schoolteacher, I remember emphasizing to my students the importance of learning about such things.  Maybe you remember learning that the troposphere begins at the Earth's surface and extends for 6-10 miles.
It absolutely and directly affects the health of the people, animals, and plants living on … (2 comments)
