asheville sustainable real estate: Asheville Baseball: Sustainability Lives in the Mountains! (light-hearted) - 06/03/10 09:40 AM
It's baseball season again! And once again, THE Asheville Tourists are creating energy all around the bases down at McCormick Field. The park opened in 1924. Since then, keeping a tradition of sustainable practices much admired here in Asheville, it has been renovated twice, once in 1959, and again for the 1992 season. McCormick Field, which seats 4,000 fans, is within walking distance of a friendly (and yes sustainable) Asheville neighborhood. Neighbors are quick to point out that the scoreboard reads "Visitors" in the guest slot and "Tourists" in the home slot. GOOD NEWS for relocating second or vacation house hunters:: (8 comments)
asheville sustainable real estate: Do You Have a "Mom and Apple Pie" Relationship with Your Home? - 05/19/10 02:30 PM
Do You Have a "Mom and Apple Pie" Relationship with Your Home?Asheville Real Estate Journal From the first to the last breath we take we human beings, it seems, come equipped with a radar for relationships. I know some people who smile just thinking about "Mom and Apple Pie." (a la mode some might add) How a need for relationships emerges in attachment to objects, according to some theorists, could influence your attraction to your homeplace whether you live in Asheville, NC or Paris, France. Try this: Imagine standing on the railroad tracks that run deep in the woods - you (12 comments)

asheville sustainable real estate: TAKE A HIKE-CRESTON PRESERVE A PROTECTED LAND NEAR ASHEVILLE NC (Series) - 04/18/10 10:35 AM
Today we headed out to visit our friend who has a building site at Creston Preserve near Black Mountain, NC. We hiked down the gentle slope, past the twin mountain laurels toward the sound of the waterfall. The sun was just rising. It was about 65 degrees- perfect day for a hike through the woods. It has been reported that natural areas like the one we took on our hike and seen in the photo here are " irreplaceable as laboratories for scientific research, as reservoirs of natural materials for uses that may not now be known, as habitats for (4 comments)
asheville sustainable real estate: Sunset Park in Asheville- A New Urbanist's Dream-Come-True - 04/04/10 04:43 PM
Sunset Park is Asheville's New Urbanist's dream-come-true. Urban living means walking to your favorite bakery for coffee and a fresh-baked delight, catching up with friends and colleagues at the farmers' tailgate market, or simply strolling around the neighborhood for a "constitutional" after dinner. And all that is possible here. Just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from downtown Asheville, this eco-amazing infill project is a very do-able walk to City Bakery for fresh-baked bread and goodies. (photo shows oneof the N C Healthy Built homes at Asheville's Sunset Park)
Would you trim? Would you remove clutter? Would you call in a Feng Shui expert? Would you paint? What kind of paint would you select? Imagine a landscape, spruced up and enriched with fruit-bearing trees and/or native/edible plantings. Imagine what a sun tunnel (16 comments)
asheville sustainable real estate: LEED and Lots - 02/11/10 04:41 PM
We are working with a general contractor in Asheville, NC who plans to build a LEED certified home on an outstanding lot she discovered, so we are especially excited about RLI's upcoming March 3, 2010 webinar that all of us have been invited to attend. It offers useful information about sustainable development including one of my favorite topics: site development. Site analyses are important no matter what you are building or where you live. They are especially important in the mountains. So, here in Asheville NC sustainable development is "the thing". For the builder/owner of a LEED Certified home, taking the following (4 comments)
asheville sustainable real estate: GOING GREEN Series: A Vintage Retrofit - 12/15/09 01:52 PM
GOING GREEN Series: A Vintage Retrofit On a quiet street in an historic neighborhood in Asheville, NC, where huge old trees stand in stately glory on either side of the rode, I found an amazing vintage home in need of TLC. I showed it not long ago to a young couple who are planning to " do a bunch of retrofitting" after they invest in an older home. Great attitude as the "GREEN-UP": It's going to be a fascinating learning experience and challenge, " they tell me. asheville sustainable real estate: Asheville NC NEIGHBORHOODS TOURS Series- 2009 - Albemarle - 05/09/09 05:08 PM
Albemarle, ASustainable Neighborhood Homes: Thoughtful design and amazing beauty, preserved and tendly cared for makes Asheville's Albemarle neighborhood a treasured place for living. Tree-lined lanes accentuate a cottage scale. Street signs point the way for your on foot or fuel-efficient vehicle (over approximately 42-acres) a delight. Sloping land leads to charming cottage-styles homes. These may be rustic bungalows or shingle-clad Dutch Revivals, yet, while styles vary, design consistency-in the building materials, cottage scale, and street signs-graces Albemarle Park with a unified feeling. Asheville- Real Estate Web 2.0 & BUILDING CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS 2009 Part 1. The Foundation Right from the Start Have you ever noticed that many of your real estate clients approach transactions with skepticism? During any new adventure, it seems almost like standard operating procedure (SOP) to express concern about the road ahead as you look out across the vista, and to take time to get clear about the motives and intentions of those along the path ...
In the case of a real estate transaction where ,for example a couple, like you see in the photo, has a dream, first, they may wonder if their REALTOR® (3 comments)
Looking at it, I was reminded once again of the depth and breadth and inter-connectivity of the Real Estate Web 2.0 environment. At least 300,000 real estate professionals work within this arena..but it is "a brave new world" for the 900,000 others who are the majority. When they enter, they will find that this is a world in flux. More and more (see Saul Kleins' White paper) we are advancing into an (4 comments)
