eco community: Urban Emerald Green-Asheville Style - 12/04/11 02:17 PM
Sustainability. The New Urbanism. Establishing and engaging in green communities.A creative yet traditional approach.
If you are a person who find the above phrases intriguing,  you may be interested to know how some Asheville NC developers approach these concepts.
A number of Asheville’s eco-friendly developers  host design charrettes where they, urban planners and architects hold conversations with interested parties.
Creative studios, cafes, shops, homes  on a “human scale” and on a workforce could well be on the agenda for discussion. Neighborhood participants can let them know a “wish list” at that time…perhaps this will include:  Solar hot water, extra insulation, radiant … (2 comments)

Community Connections  may be considered going green connections. Whether you live in Asheville or  in Anytown  those connections can deepen an important sense of belonging. The going green part is about neighbors, neighborhoods, and whole regions flourishing.
Take for example going green organizations such as:
The Audubon Society. Here in Asheville the chapter of the Audubon Society is open to birders of all experience levels. (Photo taken just a short walk from a birding adventure at Elisha Mitchell Audubon Society. ) The Clean Air Community Trust.  Our family is a big fan of improving air quality. Possibly yours is, too. eco community: Asheville Evenings a Series: Shindig on the Green - 08/01/08 02:35 PM
It was one of those perfect, clear evenings in Asheville. Not a cloud in the sky. Good fortune for the folks arriving at the  Shindig on the Green festival. Shindig on the Green is a long-standing tradition here in the Asheville area. The summer series of family-friendly community get-togethers commences "along about sundown." and usually runs until around 10:00 p.m.
We got there early.

Even after all these years, LXS could hardly wait to check out the "Jammin Tents" with music-makers warming up for their performances.

I can almost hear them now, even as I … (8 comments)

eco community: Strong, Caring (and Green) Communities - 07/08/08 08:27 AM
I'm out on the Land today. I'm out on the Land in an Asheville area eco-development we represent. It has open spaces and forest land and waterfalls and climbing cliffs and streams and an heirloom apple orcahrd now producing juicy specimens you'd love to eat...(see photo) oh it is amazing!
So here I am, out on the Land, feeling very privileged indeed... and thinking.
I'm thinking about a notable quote a real state client/friend here in Asheville sent for my review this morning:
"...we need to grow strong caring communities in which we get more of our human satisfaction from caring … (9 comments)

eco community: One Old-timer's Tale: Native American Traditions and the New Sustainability - 05/29/08 01:54 PM
He was standing at the door when I arrived. His smile was disarming. His eyes twinkled when he spoke. He was in town to teach an RLI Class. I'd heard about him and had chatted before, but I really hadn't had a chance to "sit down" for a talk with this Old-timer. A REALTOR® from " way back"  when "Sustainable or Eco- Community (in which our Firm specializes) didn't have a name yet, he came to Asheville to teach REALTORS® about The Land.
We covered a few questions, then I asked him what he thought about the Native American traditions … (12 comments)

eco community: Can You Prosper in a Conservation Neighborhood? - 04/26/08 09:07 AM

"To live sustainably in this beautiful, peaceful, healthy, sacred place in the magnificent North Carolina mountains is to prosper" .
By "prosper" , according to the Free Dictionary,  I mean:
1. To grow well or luxuriantly; thrive: The crops flourished in the rich soil...
2. To do or fare well...3. To be in a period of highest productivity, excellence, or influence...
And here in the mountains not far from our beloved Asheville, NC, you'll find a conservation neighborhood connected in a special way with the natural world where you can do just that.
It is a sustainable community where neighbors can prosper in a community designed … (13 comments)
