eco innovation: " ...the next big thing in small [GREEN & Eco-Friendly] living..." - 12/30/08 04:33 AM
Early this week, Charlie Arthur, CCIM out in Port Townsend, WA, a member at the Eco-All-Stars Group  clued us all in to " ...the next big thing in small [GREEN & Eco-Friendly] living..."  He revealed that  this "next big thing" comes from IdeaBox, a company out of Salem, Oregon.  It seems that IdeaBox offers "a lifestyle prefab housing solution."
As a land specialist, I can see some good potential for my conservation real estate buyers who may wish to have green, incredibly energy efficient temporary quarters as they build their family compound on the land they are preserving here in the mountains outside … (2 comments)

eco innovation: 2009: A "Simpler Version" ? - 12/23/08 09:13 AM
Systems theorists  construct models of complex real-world systems.  And I am a real estate professional in the real world.  But, systems theorists are  mathematical. You and I might lean toward more pedestrian analogies and metaphors to help to explain the basic structure of optimal methodsfor getting from point "A" to point "B".
The object of getting to a certain spot, of course, either is to maintain stability or to drive toward a desired goal. ... such as  a happy eco-friendly Closing Event... I like the that goal. But  I want to know more about these "optimal methods"...
Possibly a closer look into this … (8 comments)

eco innovation: REALTOR, The Business Tool for Real Estate Professionals : Eco Hatchery Kit - 09/30/08 03:38 AM
In pursuit of bright spots in a foggy environment this morning, I picked up my copy of  REALTOR, The Business Tool for Real Estate Professionals.
Often, like many of you I suppose, I simply peruse the trade rag. But today's thumb-through "bloomed" into energy and cost-saving suggestions, when, in the "Real Life" Department,  I found the Eco Hatchery Kit.

Partly because REALTOR, The Business Tool for Real Estate Professionals was recommending the Eco Hatchery Kit,
but mostly just because of my eternal curiosity,  I hopped on over to http://www.ecohatchery.com/  and the following good news. (most appreciated.)
" We can … (15 comments)

eco innovation: Riff on the Eye-Opener Forestry Report- RIPARIAN AREAS in An Eco-community - 05/04/08 12:34 AM
RIPARIAN AREAS in An  Eco-community--a real eye-opener!
This week I've been reading the Forestry Report RIFF on a Forestry Report-SOILS : Asheville Eco-Community (series) as part of the research we do before listing an Asheville area eco-development. It's been quite an eye-opener.  For me, it reiterated how important it is for real estate professionals to know more about environmentally-sensitive properties. Today, I'm giving serious thought to environmental factors in terms of riparian areas. I understand that we will  need to be able to point out
where the riparian areas areif any building sites are in a flood plainhow close to these areas builders can construct … (13 comments)

eco innovation: The Cutting Edge of GREEN : Trends & Amazing ECO-News Series - 04/23/08 02:40 AM
Many times, early in the morning, I like to go for a quick run around the World Wide Web. It's good to get perspective on trends and attitudes. It seems that each time I do this from my elegant cabin in the mountains right here in Asheville, I am amazed at the wealth of cutting edge "GREEN" news "out there"...
This week, among other "amazing scoops in the ECO-news" I discovered something that could be of huge value to those of you interested in conservation real estate. It's a comprehensive online database of land conservation. The Trust for Public Land (TPL), a national conservation organization … (7 comments)

eco innovation: YOU Can Create a Green Home Next to a Stream in Asheville - 04/18/08 12:54 PM
Not far from the cultural hub of Asheville, North Carolina yet surrounded by forever-wild mountain forests, soaring cliffs, cascading streams , and stuff of which dreams of Home are made is  the doorway to possibility in the form of an eco-community  that thrives on nature.

I'm heading over the valley and up the mountainside  this weekend to take more photos to show you.
(How do you like this one?)
I want to see for myself if what I've heard is true....that you can create a green home next to a stream, and walk for miles right out your back door then camp … (3 comments)

eco innovation: This Eco-Community = Eco-Innovation as an Exciting Model. Asheville, NC - 04/13/08 01:16 AM
I am excited about eco-innovation. Especially when eco-innovation in the form of a model for eco-community comes to my home town, Asheville, N.C.
That's right. Big News.
The very first eco-development  in the country to combine wide-ranging land conservation with an eco-friendly community of solar-heated and solar-powered " green-built"  homes, has done just that.
Here, in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, we are known for green-built homes and for thoughtful land planning. But this eco-community is unique.

More than that, I think it is simply exciting.
EXCITING? Here's how:
Not far from the cultural hub of Asheville, North Carolina yet surrounded by forever-wild mountain forests, soaring … (9 comments)

eco innovation: Get Your Greens! - 04/07/08 12:35 PM
Get Your Greens!
Your Mama may have told you, "Get Your Greens!" She probably was referring to something leafy when she said that. As an eco-adventurous REALTOR® here in Asheville, NC., you probably already guessed that I'm referring to something else- what else but homes and land?
So when I suggest you "Get Your Greens!" I'm talking eco-innovation in terms of the products that feed and improve the quality of your life. They come in many shapes and sizes. And the way they are "green" is varied. As the US Building Council says, "  They are energy or water efficient; … (17 comments)
