eco topics: REALTOR, The Business Tool for Real Estate Professionals : Eco Hatchery Kit - 09/30/08 10:38 AM
In pursuit of bright spots in a foggy environment this morning, I picked up my copy of REALTOR, The Business Tool for Real Estate Professionals. Often, like many of you I suppose, I simply peruse the trade rag. But today's thumb-through "bloomed" into energy and cost-saving suggestions, when, in the "Real Life" Department, I found the Eco Hatchery Kit.
Partly because REALTOR, The Business Tool for Real Estate Professionals was recommending the Eco Hatchery Kit, but mostly just because of my eternal curiosity, I hopped on over to http://www.ecohatchery.com/ and the following good news. (most appreciated.) " We can (15 comments)
eco topics: An Energy Wise True or False Test - 09/16/08 02:23 PM
An Energy Wise True or False Test was delivered with a smile to our client who purchased a wee rustic cabin in the mountains near Asheville with an energy-efficient mortgage. Certainly, the place was in need of updating. The appliances were about as old as the structure itself, which is to say at least as old as your Great-Grandma, and so our buyer intended to replace them, immediately. She wanted to know 1) what she could do to find out more about the various appliances on the market, and 2) for what she might be looking . . .

eco topics: Strong, Caring (and Green) Communities - 07/08/08 08:27 AM
I'm out on the Land today. I'm out on the Land in an Asheville area eco-development we represent. It has open spaces and forest land and waterfalls and climbing cliffs and streams and an heirloom apple orcahrd now producing juicy specimens you'd love to eat...(see photo) oh it is amazing! So here I am, out on the Land, feeling very privileged indeed... and thinking. I'm thinking about a notable quote a real state client/friend here in Asheville sent for my review this morning: "...we need to grow strong caring communities in which we get more of our human satisfaction from caring (9 comments)

eco topics: YOU Can Create a Green Home Next to a Stream in Asheville - 04/18/08 07:54 PM
Not far from the cultural hub of Asheville, North Carolina yet surrounded by forever-wild mountain forests, soaring cliffs, cascading streams , and stuff of which dreams of Home are made is the doorway to possibility in the form of an eco-community that thrives on nature. I'm heading over the valley and up the mountainside this weekend to take more photos to show you. (How do you like this one?) I want to see for myself if what I've heard is true....that you can create a green home next to a stream, and walk for miles right out your back door then camp (3 comments)
eco topics: Charlie Rose Moderates a Distinguished Panel on "GREEN" Sustainable Design - 01/25/08 12:34 AM
Well folks, I sure didn't expect to bump into such an interesting discussion on green building on TV tonight, one that could intrigue a real estate professional and our clients, one looking to the future and noting trends in our industry in terms of sustainable design. But I did, and I even took a few photos as I watched Charlie Rose moderate a discussion on sustainable design. Most interesting to me, and possibly to you, was that this discussion focused on commercial and residential buildings. .. The discussion took place right here in North Carolina where sustainable innovation is spurring the imagination (10 comments)
eco topics: Active Rain YEAR IN REVIEW 2007 ~by janeAnne "Greenolina" - 01/01/08 03:48 PM
Trends, "Green" Horizons, & Thanks, Active Rain IF you are like me, a fast-track to real estate news and views is a big "Plus"- one "Plus" I've appreciated since I joined Active Rain back when there were just a few thousand members. Another "Plus"- connecting. I love to "listen" to the authentic voices/opinions of our colleagues. Come to think of it, the various Groups at AR remind me of charrettes where conversations can turn into action- particularly conversations about the red-hot and mighty "green scene". There's a lot happening here at AR. Given this, when I was asked to write AR's 2007 (Green)Year in Review and highlight just (62 comments)

ActiveRain is a terrific place to strengthen your knowledge about trends in the market. We write informative posts. We converse in Groups that sizzle. We have fun by flexing our blog-muscles in contests that explore what's on the horizon. So, we all reap the rewards of sharing our knowledge here. Exploring trends in real estate is one of my favorite pursuits, no doubt about it. But I'm sure you will agree, that research in the area of trends simply is not complete without incorporating - your own opinions about what's ahead in 2008 and beyond, and what you would like to (41 comments)

eco topics: Asheville's Green Real Estate, Buyers' Brokers & LAND BUYS THAT LOOK TO THE FUTURE - 11/25/07 04:01 PM
For the past many years,I and my investors and clients have been engaged in locating and acquiring land buys with an eye to the future. In almost any season, folks from down south, and north, and west, and yes, even from Eastern North Carolina's magnificent ocean shores head for the mountains and beautiful rural farmlands of Western North Carolina. In the summer, the fresh cool air is particularly welcoming, but I love all four of our seasons. For those who have discovered the lands I love, there's no doubt that investing in Land right now is a smart move for the future.

De-Mystifying the "Green-THING" Green Homes & Land, Various Verdant Variables & Gorgeous Green "Complexions"--A Mystery? Here's a solution. Take a look at the photo to your left. It could be a quick reference point. I took it overlooking the valley that rolls out beneath my home here in Asheville, North Carolina. At first glance, you notice what appears to be a colorful array of flowers and berries, right? But take a second look. Those aren't berries; they are buds. And do you see a "tiny" home (on your left) in the distance? Wing across the valley with me now. Land on the rooftop of (24 comments)

update: if you like this post, please subscribe to my blog! Thankyou! Dawn's a good time to scope out property, especially a land sale a short drive from Asheville, N.C, - one of interesting proportions - 27+ irregular acres. So today , as I rolled down a highway where pale-blue mountains fringed the still-pink skies, I considered the anatomy of this particular land sale, and how it could play out for sellers and buyers. •1) It might be an investment, a 1031 Exchange. •2) It could be someone's prized find for a second home. •3) It could be the perfect mountain retreat with sheltered cove, (33 comments)
eco topics: Can You Recognize a QEP When You See One? - 07/08/07 07:39 PM
"Can You Recognize a QEP When You See One?" my clients inquired. And I was soooo happy I could answer in the affirmative. It doesn't take much to be QEP-prepared, but just in case you don't know what I'm talking about, tonight, I'm sharing a few QEP tidbits you might like to have. But first a little background: My clients, a retired airline pilot and his ("still at it") CEO wife, (she's in the software business supplying the airline industry) are excited about real property investment. We've had our initial sit-down meeting to make sure we're on the same "landing-strip" (15 comments)

eco topics: Anatomy of a Land Sale. CHASING WATERFALLS , Asking Questions & Listening to An Investor’s Dream (Part I) - 06/12/07 09:56 AM
Our client, JT, a professional photographer, (black & white) - tells us he has been "chasing waterfalls". I ask him my favorite question: "Tell me what is most important to you about this much sought-after waterfall." His eyes light up. He explains that often he passes his days photographing rectangular structures. So, when he is at home, he prefers to be close to the organic shapes and forms (and energy) that nature provides. He has his finances in order (he's pre-qualified) for a land purchase of about 40 acres with a grand natural water feature and is ready to (42 comments)
