going green asheville: Smart Renovations- Concrete (Series) -Concrete Fireplace Surrounds - 01/30/10 09:25 AM
Captivated by Concrete:   Engrossed in research for a series of posts - - " An  Expose of  the Hottest Home Trends and Smart Renovations of 2010 , "  I have been captivated with the function and versatility of concrete.
Previously unaware that " ....  concrete countertops are quickly becoming the darling of architects and kitchen and bath designers across the country..."   I simply was fascinated with the possibilities that emerged as I sifted through various trade rags and researched online.
"In the fashion world of residential countertops, where the purchasing process has rightly evolved into a 'countertop experience'  concrete has the potential to become the ultimate personalized … (13 comments)

going green asheville: CONCRETE Innovations and Design Trends - 01/20/10 11:26 PM
Asheville NC Real Estate - Smart Renovations 2010  include. . .  CONCRETE!
In the Asheville NC real estate market , where eco-friendly features such as concrete innovations and design trends add-value to residential properties, I have been asking, " Are you ready to discover one of the newest design trends that actually is as old as the Roman Empire? "
Discovery :: The "New Concrete"- colorful, fine-fashioned, and with shining surfaces, the new concrete offers solutions in sustainable innovation that  I daresay could have astounded Caesar himself.  According to Wikipedia,  in the Emperor's day,  the "Concrete Revolution, freed Roman construction from the restrictions of stone and brick material … (18 comments)

If you are Going Green, how do you tell the difference between faux-green and the real-deal?  Selling and buying Land is different that selling and buying residential property. going green asheville: Land For Sale By Owner- Finding the "Right" Acreage- (2) - 12/29/09 08:43 PM
Following up on my earlier post, Land For Sale By Owner- Finding the "Right" Acreage, a few more thoughts . . .
Over the years I have discovered that "the thing" about finding the "right " acreage is that those seeking LAND tend to be quite particular. I wonder , given this, how the seeker of land is to find such acreage --especially if it is in the Land For Sale By Owner category-- without the help of someone (a local expert and land broker) who really knows that land-
In fact,  I ask myself this question time and again . I receive requests … (8 comments)

going green asheville: The Elusive Perfect Closing Gift - 12/29/09 01:34 PM
The Elusive Perfect Closing Gift
Each year we brainstorm about "the elusive perfect closing gift" for our clients. We seek something representative of our personality as a real estate firm.
It must be creative. It must be delightful. It must be eco-friendly and fun.. ..
It cannot be a trip to the South of France (too expensive.) It cannot be organic peanut butter and locally grown jam in a basket ( nice, but not quite adequate to express the depth of our appreciation.)  . It has to be "just right"....
Anyone else with this dilemma? This year we happened on the perfect … (37 comments)

going green asheville: Going Green: A Snowbound Neighborhood - 12/20/09 10:20 PM
Going Green: A Snowbound Neighborhood
According to the commonly understood real estate definition, a neighborhood is anarea of a municipality which is identifiable by a common use, a common atmosphere or a common business area.
When I think of  neighborhood, I imagine ice cream socials, welcoming living spaces, community organic  gardens,  evening strolls on tree-lined sidewalks. Family. Friends. Pets and Parties.
It's a very attractive picture to me, especially at this time of year. I so enjoy sharing images and stories of life in our neighborhood in the mountains in  Asheville. And for the past number of years I even have been … (2 comments)

going green asheville: GOING GREEN -Asheville's Film Community - 12/16/09 11:07 PM
Just this week a client mentioned he was interested in video and film career opportunities in North Carolina. While we are known as the "Paris of the South" here in Asheville, we are not exactly Hollywood. But  I could tell him about AdvantageWest.
Advantage West is a non-profit public-private partnership taking an interest in filmmaking, entrepreneurship and tourism. I was happy to share information I have:   AdvantageWest, the Western North Carolina Film Commission "assists filmmakers with scouting and securing location, and acts as a liaison for services such as road closures, permits, and use of public property. going green asheville: Going Green Series- Events Environmental Leadership Center - 12/16/09 10:55 PM
I got an invitation from Phil Gibson, a much admired colleague recently.   Phil is the  Director of Research and Community Outreach at the Environmental Leadership Center at Warren Wilson College just down the valley in Black Mountain, North Carolina. The Environmental Leadership Center has the mission of "raising awareness of local, national and global environmental realities and to inspire caring citizens - especially our youth - to reflect, to communicate, and to act as responsible caretakers of the earth. "
The Eco-Steward Firm has had a similar mission, and so I was excited  when Phil told me that  Clarke Snell who … (1 comments)
