Asheville, North Carolina, Green Week, 2011-Real Estate News and Views from Asheville's "Greenolina"
How many  shades of green  can you see in the Asheville area mountains? In eco-friendly design, development, and building I'd say, "about as many as you can see in the early light on an Appalachian mountainside.
Take for example... a) green-built homes,  b) indoor air quality (IAQ) , c) whole house ventilation or d)  NO-VOC paint .... And many people looking to leave a land legacy will devote their attention to e) eco-savvy development that takes into … (2 comments)

green asheville real estate: Asheville Real Estate- Maps & Getting Around in Asheville - 11/01/10 05:25 PM
ASHEVILLE! Real Estate Professionals WELCOME YOU HOME!
Getting Around in Asheville
I'm always checking on what's happening down at the D.O.T... I wonder about Travel Patterns, in general...and I wonder about ten years from now. . .what will the polulation numbers in Asheville be like, how will it affect the way we get around.
Here in Asheville, the next ten years we expect  I-26 to be completed in the city. Homes along the current approaches may/will well be impacted... . How will this affect getting around in Asheville pattern? The increasing mobility of workers over the last century has changed the relationship of … (2 comments)

green asheville real estate: Asheville’s Villages at Crest Mountain Dance with the Land - Permaculture and Neighborly Caring - 06/18/10 11:30 AM
A dance with the land, that's Permaculture!  And Permaculture as expressed at the Villages at Crest Mountain here Asheville includes a nod to eco-friendly land use design. That might sound like a complicated thing, But, as you will see in this tiny video clip, it simply requires that from time to time you "dance" with the land on which you live. Not to worry, this can be a delightful experience....just ask Clint, (seen in this tiny video clip) the Project Manager at the Villages at Crest Mountain demonstrates.
Here, while dipping his hands in a cool rivulet on a summer's day, … (10 comments)

green asheville real estate: Where Second Homes and Lovin' the Green Meet - 06/04/10 11:46 PM
I'll tarry no longer on the virtues of investing in a second and/or vacation home in Asheville. As I pointed out in the post on that subject, there are many opportunities for buyers in that special field. Possibly there is even a point at which sustainable development and second and vacation homes meet.
So, I shall sally forth from the opportunities for second home investing in the mountains, and into the realm of the virtues of green building within a sustainable community.. I am envisioning green building in eco-communities with renewable energy systems that have both creature comforts and quality of life … (5 comments)

green asheville real estate: The Secret Behind Customer Demand for Energy Efficient Homes - 10/22/09 09:22 AM
What is Behind Customer Demand for Energy Efficient Homes?   That's what a seasoned builder here in Asheville wanted to know.
"The local Green Building Council says that HealthyBuilt Homes®  are leading the way in the built environment," he said.
"What would make me want to build them?"
That is a good question, and one that seems to be coming up more and more even in a challenging economy where the impact on the real estate market is significant.
Here are just three (3) "secrets" I suggested he consider:
•1.      Customer demand for energy efficient homes. From Atlanta to Asheville to … (9 comments)

green asheville real estate: Eco-Community NC & Acres and Acres of Land - 10/02/09 10:29 PM
Dateline Asheville, North Carolina, October, 2009News and Views from "GREEN-O-Lina"
The Eco-Community & Conservation Land
THIS WEEK I had the good fortune to hike the sunny trails leading from an amazing eco-friendly community just minutes from downtown Asheville. This model for sustainable innovation, Hickory Nut Forest is one of the first ECO developments in the USA to combine wide-ranging land conservation with an eco-friendly community of green-built  homes, to be powered by renewable energy -(wind power, hydropower , geothermal) - to create  a  "net-zero-energy community". Living in this conservation neighborhood means enjoying the forever-wild mountain forests, soaring cliffs and pristine, cascading streams, … (9 comments)

Dateline Asheville, North Carolina, September, 2009Real Estate News and Views from Green Asheville's "Stay-in-Your-Home" Eco-Steward
I've been out on the trails at Creston Preserve this week, reporting in almost daily with short posts and from my little hand-held camera.
I figure that's a good way  for you to see a  "down-to-earth" vision of life in the mountains near Asheville.
Creston is an eco-friendly development whose thoughtful and thorough protective covenants and design guidelines  preserve mountain views, natural splendor, and visual harmony.

To me being environmentally sensitive makes sense since North Carolina's ancient mountains are treasures.  Two main crests- the Western or Unaka Front … (6 comments)
