AIA is presenting another Box Lunch Educational Program- a seminar here in Asheville by The Garland Company Wednesday, May 18, 2011 12:00noon Grove Arcade on one of my favorite subjects...GREEN ROOFS entitled: "Sustainable Design Roofing" Participants will look into sustainable design as it relates to commercial roofing applications. Innovative technologies such as cool roofs, photovoltaic roofing, vegetated roof systems, recyclable roofing, roofing materials manufactured with post consumer recycled content, and low VOC roofing options will be discussed.

I had the pleasure of sitting down with John Myers and Jane Lawson the developers of the Hickory Nut Forest GREEN/conservation community near Asheville, NC not long ago. We talked about what it takes to create such a community- their philosophy and how they designed and developed the land. Here is a segment of our conversation.
