horses: Asheville "Scene " Around Town Photo Series: Horses and Hellos - 05/16/09 04:22 PM
HORSES . FRIENDS. COMMUNICATION Here is the sense of delight--that which can transport you all the way back to your childhood. How worthwhile to see the whole world open up again as you and I view it through the eyes of this child. If we choose, we are taken to the magical times of " first meeting" - seeing each character dressed in the mystique of the moment. Ah-to recover our sense of wonder! Ah to venture out into the unknown, the unknowable. . . to question the nature of those unspoken communications that exist between us...between all living creatures....to give it a character, a personal history. horses: HORSES LOVE GREEN ASHEVILLE - 05/02/09 07:52 PM
We were out exploring Asheville horse farm lands with clients last week. This is the fifth tour for us. But each time we get a little closer to finding the "perfect" property. It's not easy when you love horses as much as our clients, do. I keep telling them HORSES LOVE GREEN ASHEVILLE, but they are used to the "flatlands" of FLorida . Possibly they worry that horses will be terrified of the terrain. I took a picture of that "terrain" last week. It doesn't look all THAT scarey to me... and I have corroboration from horse-pals who live here. They nicker and snort (0 comments)

Asheville "GREEN" Real Estate and Relocation: MARKET OUTLOOK-It's GREEN and EQUESTRIAN Friendly (Part 5). As I mentioned in Part 4 of this series, to some extent, we have felt the effects of credit tightening and the sub-prime mortgage crisis. But consider this: Demand for green built homeshas only increased. And, in Asheville, it seems to help drive our market in a healthy trajectory. For those relocating to Asheville: MSN "Best Housing Markets"recently reported that Asheville is in the Top 10 List The Asheville area and the Foothills of South Carolina have another magnetic feature for those relocating to this beautiful environment. horses: Asheville GREEN RELOCATION TOURS: Horse Farms and Equestrian Estates - 02/21/09 03:00 PM
I met a horse-loving visitor not long ago. She was thinking of relocating to Asheville and was looking for "...a turnkey organic farm with a good horse barn where like-minded people could share the acreage and facilities... " . I recommended she take on of the AshevilleGREEN RELOCATION TOURS specifically designed for folks looking for horse farms and/or acreages. Here in the Asheville area where sustainabilityis highly regarded and organic agriculture is on the rise, taking the time to get to know the area and topography, especially if you are into horses, just makes sense to me. Rolling and south-facing property is at (3 comments)
horses: Asheville Relocating: Grand GREEN Tours Make It Easier - 02/17/09 04:44 PM
Seems like almost every one who comes to the Happiest City in the USA (that's Asheville) wants to stake a claim here. So wandering around taking in Asheville's landmarks, historic buildings, art galleries and shops soon seems to turn to a desire for deeper investigation of sustainable and historic neighborhoods, horse farms and eco-communities, urban lofts, and expansive acreages. Recently, I talked with the Eco Certified ®Real Estate Consultants at a local firm. I had heard they offered a remedy for would-be property owners who just couldn't resist Asheville's allure and want to relocate......a particular kind of real estate tour. They told me... horses: Horse Farm in Asheville Beckons - 01/19/08 08:34 AM
I began a "conversation" with a horse person via email. She is a potentialclient I met through Active Rain. She wrote something like this, "I am exploring relocating to an eco conscious, eco friendly community which welcomes and accommodates horses (5). I am specifically interested in a situation in which there is minimum environmental toxicity in the community." Now folks, I know what she means by eco-friendly. "Green" is downright popular these days. Thank goodness "old timers" and ecologists are readily available to point out plants and trees potentially toxic to horses. But I also know about my horse-clients and (17 comments)
horses: Asheville's Green Real Estate, Buyers' Brokers & LAND BUYS THAT LOOK TO THE FUTURE - 11/25/07 04:01 PM
For the past many years,I and my investors and clients have been engaged in locating and acquiring land buys with an eye to the future. In almost any season, folks from down south, and north, and west, and yes, even from Eastern North Carolina's magnificent ocean shores head for the mountains and beautiful rural farmlands of Western North Carolina. In the summer, the fresh cool air is particularly welcoming, but I love all four of our seasons. For those who have discovered the lands I love, there's no doubt that investing in Land right now is a smart move for the future.

horses: De-Mystifying the “Green-THING" as you look for a Green Home for Sale - 10/23/07 09:13 PM
De-Mystifying the "Green-THING" Green Homes & Land, Various Verdant Variables & Gorgeous Green "Complexions"--A Mystery? Here's a solution. Take a look at the photo to your left. It could be a quick reference point. I took it overlooking the valley that rolls out beneath my home here in Asheville, North Carolina. At first glance, you notice what appears to be a colorful array of flowers and berries, right? But take a second look. Those aren't berries; they are buds. And do you see a "tiny" home (on your left) in the distance? Wing across the valley with me now. Land on the rooftop of (24 comments)

("High-Performance of another kind.) Prairie Crossing is a conservation community in Lake County just outside the "Windy City", Chicago, Illinois. And, judging from our client, you might find some pretty interesting and eco-wise neighbors there. And too, you could be delighted to discover a very much in demand high-performance home, like (17 comments)
horses: Can You Recognize a QEP When You See One? - 07/08/07 07:39 PM
"Can You Recognize a QEP When You See One?" my clients inquired. And I was soooo happy I could answer in the affirmative. It doesn't take much to be QEP-prepared, but just in case you don't know what I'm talking about, tonight, I'm sharing a few QEP tidbits you might like to have. But first a little background: My clients, a retired airline pilot and his ("still at it") CEO wife, (she's in the software business supplying the airline industry) are excited about real property investment. We've had our initial sit-down meeting to make sure we're on the same "landing-strip" (15 comments)

So today I'm writing about theABCs of Structuring both Facts and Subtleties into Real Property Transactions. Here's how it works. Look at the facts. Gather data, Know your parameters. Do the ground work. But never ignore what lies beyond the obvious. EXAMPLE: This photo(I took it earlier this week) is of a farmland scene... a large acreage with great potential.. I have the survey, plat map, aerial, utility information and so forth, ...however, the "atmosphere" here can influence one's perception of the facts. My clients hear, "What's your gut feeling about the potential for this property ?" I ask this question because over the years, Big Advantages (19 comments)
You may have read my post on creating an eco-friendly barn/stables in which I told the story of our client, the avid equestrian, "Doc" . She stopped in to visit and to talk about "Energy"-- specifically Energy Star Rated buildings that might work for her horse barn construction project. That really got us thinking. Right away, I dropped an email on over to AR's Tricia Jumonville and Janie Coffey who commented and gave Doc's project some ECO-juice. Don't ya' just love it when the gang gets together to brainstorm about healthy living space remedies? That got me thinking about all our horse farm clients (13 comments)
horses: HORSE & Home & Stars - 06/20/07 09:42 PM
The other day, one of our favorite equestrians "Doc" stopped in to the Office to talk about "Energy"....Energy Star Rated buildings , that is. She wanted to explore how that might work for her horse barn construction project. "Let me get you some coffee while I bound up the stairs to the "Plaid Room" to gather some info on that, " I said, fearing that this might take a little while. Like most real estate offices, we have a library. Ours, the "Plaid Room" (so named for the Tartan design that decorates the walls) is the well-stuffed repository where a wealth of information, the result (24 comments)

Critical issues face horse men and women in North Carolina. According to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture these challenges include: "loss of areas to ride, zoning laws limiting horse ownership, liability problems of riding stables, and rapid development." Still horses are a way of life for thousands of people in our beautiful State with its rolling hills and inviting terrains. Remember, North Carolina historically has been a horse-loving State, from the sea to the mountains. So the challenges at hand can be overcome with creative planning and determination, I am told. And knowing my horse-loving clients, I believe that is true. In (11 comments)
horses: Anatomy of a Horse Farm Sale ... or a Ride to Love - 04/22/07 01:32 PM
Just today, I was nudged inquisitively by a band of 4 goats, clucked at by the gals in the hen house, looked in the eye by an enormous horse, and left breathless by the sight of Tennessee Walkers racing each other across the Spring-green pasture of the horse farm I was showing. My clients and I, on the lookout for a "family" horse farm near Asheville, N.C. knew we are in for an adventure! We couldn't think of a better way for a REALTOR® and her clients to celebrate Earth Day than to be out on the Land. Two farms on the agenda today...So we (50 comments)

horses: On Wells and Finding a Lost Well- Without Falling In! - 11/04/06 09:53 PM
We were out on 35 acres today, looking for a well. This is beautiful acreage, perfect for an equestrian retreat. It is level at the bottom, then rises gently thorugh a series of hills to the viewpoint high up the mountainside. But where was the well? We had hints from the owners of the property of where it might be located, but this acreage is a 1031 investment property for them, they had walked it once or twice, and they weren’t sure if they had even seen the well. They thought they remembered the former owners saying it was at the (5 comments)
