As a Stager I advise clients on how to prepare their homes for sale. It is my job to change the focus of their decorating fron 'living' to 'selling'. There are different guide lines to follow so what works for living in the home may be totally wrong for selling the home.

When you market a product you make sure it appeals to your target group. This also applies to a home. What sort of buyer will want my house in my area of town? To get this answer go to a real estate professional. They can answer your questions and help you set a realistic price on your home. Once you have your target group it is time to prepare the 'product' so that it will be competitive in today's market.

When you put your home on the market it becomes a commodity. To you it is full of dreams, memories and treasures. To the buyer it is a product they are examining for possible purchase.
So, pack up those dreams, memories and treasures to take to your next home. Make sure the buyer can see the 'product' you are selling. Uncover that tile so the buyer can see it. Shampoo the carpeting or if necessary replace it if it is showing wear. Wash off or paintwalls that are marked from living. You may need to update the (12 comments)
