palm beach: Become a horse rescue mission volunteer and possibly help find a missing person! - 09/19/07 10:11 AM
I read my most recent copy of John Lyons' magazine Perfect Horse with the normal level of excitement and enthusiasm. (when I can ignore the ridiculous amount of Wrangler jeans brand placement). Although not trained in natural horsemanship, I am very eager to learn and just LOVE the philosophy of working WITH your horse rather than controlling your horse through fear, control or other punishment. One article especially caught my eye. It was on a volunteer search and rescue team in Pennsylvania which is trained to work on search and rescue missions when large expanses of ground need to be covered

"In My Opinion" by Ronnie Beard I am writing this letter on behalf of many other concerned equestrians, and myself. On August 28th a group of horsemen went to the meeting of The Wellington Village Council to show support for Gene Mische and Stadium Jumping. If you were at the meeting you would have seen the large number of people who put forth a great amount of effort to attend. After a brief discussion we were informed that there would be no discussion or decision that night concerning the approval of Stadium Jumping's move.I had been at a previous meeting and spoke

palm beach: Evaluating potential horse properties in Florida - What to look out for to ensure a happy experience for you and your horse. - 08/07/07 10:52 AM
You may have owned several horse properties or this might be your first trip to the rodeo, no matter what, having a checklist of things to check out will be helpful to analyze your options. Property surrounds - is the property fenced? if so will the fence work for you? is it high enough? is it in good repair? does it have barbed wire or other dangerous things that might need to be removed? what are the neighbors like? if there are groves and/or row crops are they down-wind do they spray pesticides? are you near a

palm beach: Poinsonous Plants in Florida- Keep your horses, dogs, cats and other furry friends (and children) away! - 06/09/07 09:22 PM

palm beach: Hurricane Preparedness for Horses - Florida Horse Owners Prepare NOW not when it is TOO LATE! - 06/09/07 06:35 PM
Hurricane season is upon us and it is time to prepare and plan for the worst while we hope for the best. This includes a plan not only for yourself and home, but for your four legged friends as well. You might have several plans, A, B, C, and D for various strengths of storms with a variety or warning timeframes. The best plan might be to get out of dodge with your horses in a trailer to a pre-arranged location North or West. This may not be practical however, depending on how much warning we have, how predictable the "cone"

palm beach: Wellington Equestrian Real Esate in the Daily Business Review - 05/20/07 11:22 PM
I was interviewed by our local real estate and legal newspaper, the Daily Business Review, for an article they were writing on the impact of some potential zoning changes might have on the local real estate market. I am sure that my real estate blogging and Localism presence helped me to be selected, thank you Active Rain!.. The original article was going to cover a more broad view of equestrian real estate in South Florida, but a hot topic changed the focus of the story at the last moment. Here is the article for those of you who are interested. Zoning Report Wellington’s

palm beach: Horse Real Estate >> Possible Tax Strategies for Folks Selling Horse Properties - 05/13/07 05:48 PM
Tax Strategies for Horse Property Sellers Many, if not most of us, know about the capital gains savings that homeowners can benefit from when selling their primary residence. If the homeowner has occupied the residence for at least two of the previous five yeas, they can exclude up to $250,000 in capital gains from the profit of the sale for single persons or $500,000 for married persons. This does NOT mean that you must OWN the home for five years, just live in it for at least two of the previous five years. This also does NOT mean that the

palm beach: Horse Real Estate >> Agricultural Classification for Horse Property Owners in Florida - 04/27/07 06:51 PM
AGRICULTURAL CLASSIFICATION DISCLAIMER: your tax attorney and lawyer should be consulted for any actual applications, the info below is merely additional resources to use in planning. One of the biggest mysteries surrounding horse properties in Florida is who, and under what circumstances, can claim an Agricultrual Classification for their horse properties, thereby greatly reducing their property taxes. The short and simple answer is that your use for the horses must be for "bona fide agricultural purposes" for commercial use. In other words, you must have the horses with the real intent to earn an income from them. Examples would be breeding,
