marketing: Pimps, Realtors and the Value of an Agent - 11/25/09 05:19 AM
If you've been reading Active Rain blogs at all in the past month or so, there's been a lot of discussion about the value of a real estate agent and the possible stagnation and extinction of our field.  There's a few places that referenced the sequel to Freakonomics, Superfreakonomics. In the new book, there is a comparison of Realtors to Pimps which is an upgrade over the KKK in my opinion.
"A Realtor and a pimp perform the same primary service: marketing your product to potential customers.- Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner"
Luckily, we don't JUST MARKET the property. … (14 comments)

marketing: Voting Lines - A Missed Opportunity - 11/04/08 02:35 PM
Sure voting is patriotic and it's a great thing that this country is able to do, but blogging about your actual process of voting, is it worth it.  I'd hate to get all philisophical here, but really, is blogging about anything other than what the consumers care about worth our time.  How about sharing some ideas we could have done instead of blogging about voting.
Networking at the voting line - lines were much shorter than predicted, but they were still there.  Guess who's in the line... YOUR NEIGHBORS! Passing out fliers or materials while in line - Wow! Who's that … (2 comments)

marketing: Can Mailing the Same Group Twice Double Your Response? - 01/14/08 04:54 AM
I came across this article by Alan Sharp and thought it was interesting.  It refers to Mailing your database with offers, actually the same offers twice.  This article was written with the assumption that you are mailing in quick succession or at the same time.
Mailing the same direct mail offer to the same consumer list a second time typically generates a response rate that's 65 percent smaller than the initial response. Mailing a third time usually generates a response that's more than 50 percent smaller than the initial mailing. But if you mail businesses or institutions with the same offer … (11 comments)

marketing: Point2 Agent Reminds Us: The Internet NEVER Lies.... - 01/06/08 01:09 PM
I recently had a funny experience that reminded me of when I first starting using the internet and would tell other people that indeed, "I read it on the internet."  Of course, we all know now that the internet is the infallible truth, right?
Point2 Agent offers free sites for agents and other services as well as a paid site.  At first it was a cute little template system and has grown into one of the largest communities, template sites, ... basically a globbity gloop of stuff for agents.
In any case, I went to add two new listings I had in … (6 comments)

marketing: Question: Do you put your business card in with your Christmas Card? - 12/11/07 11:55 AM
There's two easy sides to this story, either you do or you don't.  You may think it's cheesy or agressive or flat out tacky.  You might think that it's just a friendly reminder that you are in fact, still in business. Christmas is a time when we all have to check the things we do, and frankly, we may have a bit more time as Realtors to analyze the situation. Do we send presents to good clients, do we worry about offending someone with the appropriate holiday greeting (just for the record, it's Merry Christmas from me), do we send cards … (15 comments)

marketing: Magazine Advertising? Anyone Having Success with This?! What makes a good Magazine Ad? - 11/14/07 09:30 AM
I was recently approached to be in a newer magazine that targets high end clients.  The targe market is:
Average Household income of $150K or moreAverage Price of home $500K or more (high end for our state)Country Club, Golf, Lake or Estate style properties are targeted50,000 mailings, but no distribution points (like the Grocery Store)This magazine has articles about CEOs and other entrepenuers in the area and how they achieved success.
I can put whatever I want in the ad, and I can be exclusive for the magazine.  In fact, they prefer only one "service" professional per magazine. It can be an … (9 comments)

marketing: REMINDER: HELP! With My Subject Lines! Read More To Get 100% of Your E-mail Read! - 11/13/07 04:50 AM
If you're reading this, then the rest of the article will be very confusing or at the very least, ironic.  I recently read another article about a study done on e-mail subjects and their effectiveness.  If you haven't guessed by now, the study reveals that the words: Reminder, Help, and % off are the least effective words you can use to get your e-mail opened.
A study conducted by Atlanta-based MailChimp looked at 200 million e-mails sent by the firm's clients, and found that wording is key to getting consumers to open their e-mail.The study's report noted that most consumers do … (10 comments)

marketing: Direct Mail - What are you doing? - 06/16/07 01:32 PM
With the rush to the internet, there seems to be a great opportunity to re-look at Direct Mail.  Sure there are several agents that do this (Direct Mail) but the next time I get a recipe, or something nice about a kittie, I'll have to see the doctor about my nausea.  I'm a Realtor, I know the market, I'm a strong negotiator and I want to be professional.  A kitten is a nice touch for a holiday card, but not for a "newsletter" or a direct mail piece or campaign.
What are you (active Rain) doing if anything?
I tried some custom postcards … (14 comments)
