activerain success story: ActiveRain Continues to Work Its Magic for Me in 2011 - 01/23/11 09:58 PM
I just finished writing an offer for a client of mine who first found my blog here in 2008.  We hit it off back then, and he and his family almost bought a home with a local builder, but the builder was a headache to deal with and didn't keep their word.  Since then, he has continued to look at listings online on his own, and we appear to have found the perfect place.  Time will tell with regard to our offer, but I was happy to realize that he has continued to read many of my posts since our original … (30 comments)

activerain success story: I Had a Big Week for ActiveRain Results! - 10/20/09 09:24 PM
Over the past week or two, I had two referrals from my friends here at ActiveRain, AND one of the biggest closings we've had in months.  The closing came from a consumer who found my blog months ago and became a "fan".  He liked what I had to say about the area where I live so much that he and his wife bought a place about 3 minutes from my home.
One of the referrals, from my friend Trey Thurmond in College Station, was a listing that went under contract after four days!  The other referral is from Steve Shatsky in … (112 comments)

activerain success story: How My ActiveRain Efforts Have Brought Additional Exposure! - 01/23/09 05:37 AM
I could easily write several posts on this topic, but since I've had so many different opportunities this past month that have arisen from my blogging lately, I decided to write a post about all of them at once.
And yes, that is a picture of my actual thumb!
REALTOR MAGAZINE I received a call from a reporter with Realtor Magazine late last month.  She had seen this post of mine: How to Properly Leave a Brokerage - Am I wrong to expect a call?.  She wanted to talk about my experience in two areas: agents who leave, and letting agents … (111 comments)

activerain success story: ActiveRain Success in 2008 - A Look Back - 01/05/09 06:15 AM
As 2008 was drawing to a close, and with the dawn of a new year upon us, I was inspired to write a post about my own successful year at ActiveRain.  Thankfully, Brian Block also announced a contest that seemed to dovetail nicely with my idea.
This is probably not your typical "success" post, since I am not going to focus on the amount of commission I received, or the number of leads that my blog brought me.  Instead, I have a few other areas that I would like to cover, all of which stem directly from my involvement right here … (91 comments)

activerain success story: Dear ActiveRain Pen Pals - I have enjoyed getting to know you! - 11/29/08 07:59 PM

When I was a kid, I had a "pen pal" who lived in Japan.  I can't for the life of me remember his name now, but I really used to look forward to getting his letters in the mail.  Heck, when I was a kid, I used to look forward to getting ANYTHING in the mail.  Back then, cards from my grandmother in Corpus Christi held the promise of a crisp five-dollar bill (or maybe even a small check!).
Since it generally requires actual handwriting with a pen or pencil, the concept of having pen pals seems like something from history class now, with … (46 comments)

activerain success story: Blogging is a Long-Term Strategy with the Potential for Short-Term Results - 11/03/08 12:25 AM
The title of this post was a quote from yours truly during the recent Real Estate Barcamp in Houston during a discussion led by Paul Chaney about social media and its effectiveness.  This pretty much sums up my personal perspective on the act of blogging as it applies to my business.
When I first started blogging four years ago on another platform, I used it just for personal opinions, rather than anything that I thought could actually help me make money.  You may be surprised to learn that many of my posts were political in nature, considering the fact that I … (109 comments)

activerain success story: ActiveRain is Amazing! - Local Networking Pays Dividends - 10/15/08 10:22 PM
When I first started here on ActiveRain last August, I was hoping to become well-known enough to garner referrals from agents and brokers in other markets around the state and across the country.  What I never bargained on was the chance that I could get referrals from other brokers right here in Austin.
That changed for me recently. Back in early August, I met Russell Lewis in person for the first time.  He called me to ask if I would have 15 minutes to spend with him at my office to answer some questions he had about ActiveRain.  Two or three … (54 comments)

activerain success story: A Good "Problem" to Have! My SEO and social networking successes this week - 07/19/08 10:01 PM

Today, I met with a buyer who was referred to me from an agent in Idaho who found my ActiveRain blog on Google.  I think the agent had searched "austin texas real estate broker" or "austin texas real estate broker owner", and my ActiveRain blog appears on the first page of results for both terms.
The buyer and I had a great outing for a few hours this afternoon and we are planning to get together again this week once again, then we will spend next Saturday choosing a home once his wife is here with us.  They are looking … (54 comments)

activerain success story: ActiveRain Pays Off Yet Again! Welcome a new member of our team who found me here! - 07/09/08 05:25 PM
I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago about how being a member of ActiveRain had helped with my recruiting efforts as a broker:
How ActiveRain Has Helped with My Recruiting Efforts as a Broker
Last week, fellow AR member and newbie Christi Baylor joined our team.  She found me right here on AR, after (her words) she "stumbled across my blog".  She first contacted me on June 23rd, after reading this post of mine, which was essentially an open letter to new agents as I looked back over my 11-year career as an agent, and now as a broker:

activerain success story: I received FOUR new clients this week from ActiveRain! This stuff works! - 03/07/08 09:54 AM

I have written in the past about leads I have received from my ActiveRain blog.  This week was a banner week for me personally, as I picked up four new potential clients from AR.
One lady and her husband contacted me via email from Seattle, and we have since spoken.  They are making a trip to look at homes here in Austin starting around the 25th of March.  They contacted me on the same day that I was working with buyers who were referred to me by my Seattle-area friend Sandy Noll.  If things go well, I hope to have a listing … (81 comments)
