austin realtors: Austin was the Second-Fastest Growing City in the U.S. for 2007-2008 - 04/15/09 01:49 PM
According to a U.S. Census Bureau report that was released in March, Austin is the second fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States, ranking behind only Raleigh, NC in terms of percentage growth.
Austin grew by 3.8% during the period from mid-2007 to mid-2008, hitting a population of around 1.7 million.  This seems amazing to me, since I remember the metro area was under 1 million when I started as a real estate agent in early 1997.
The metro area includes Round Rock, which also serves as the international headquarters for Dell Computer.  That fact alone has transformed Round Rock … (14 comments)

austin realtors: Austin Named #1 on List of "Best Large Cities for Job Growth" - 04/14/09 04:57 PM
Once again, Austin has been recognized nationally with positive economic news.
Austin ranks No. 1 on the list of big cities for employment potential from NewGeography.com.  The Capital City posted modest job growth of just 1 percent in 2008 but that was still better than a lot of other big cities.  That growth, coupled with Austin's long-term potential to continue creating new jobs, garnered it the top spot.
For the study, they looked at recent data as well as statistics dating back to 1996.  This was so that things wouldn't be tainted (i.e. in order to establish a trend and … (12 comments)

Whether you are looking for a classic estate in the heart of the city, or a Texas-sized ranch, Austin has it all!  The central Texas area has much to offer if you are looking for a luxury property.
Granted, if you are looking for a beachfront bungalow or a mountain cabin, we don't have those here.  However, we do have some prime waterfront homes and some pretty big hills to the west of town!  This article really just skims the surface.  For more information, feel free to call me anytime.
So, what are the most popular homes selling in the $1 … (7 comments)

austin realtors: "Jason, how do you pronounce THAT?" - A Visitor's Guide to Austin - 08/02/08 08:51 PM
I have lived in the Austin, Texas area for almost exactly 20 years now, having moved here in August of 1988 to begin attending Southwestern University in nearby Georgetown.  As such, I have seen a lot of visitors and new residents in the area who mispronounce town and road names, and refer to them strangely, at least in my humble opinion.
In an effort to assist those who are visiting or moving here to fit in a bit better, I have compiled a short list of the most common mistakes that I have witnessed.  In several of the cases that I … (42 comments)

austin realtors: Austin Named #2 "Best Place to Buy a Home" on Forbes List - Texas Takes FOUR Spots! - 07/17/08 12:48 PM

Forbes magazine released its list of the "Top Places to Buy a Home" in the U.S., analyzing the 40 largest metro areas across the country.  Austin was named the 2nd best place to buy a home right now in the nation, topped only by the Houston market.  San Antonio and Dallas also fared very well in the study, at #5 and #6, respectively.

Clearly, Texas is still a great place to buy!

The criteria used for this study were as follows:
Included cities where home prices have actually appreciated over the past two years Measured tightening vacancy … (6 comments)

austin realtors: Way to go, Texas! We nabbed the TOP THREE spots on new Forbes list - 06/27/08 11:24 AM
Houston, Dallas, and Austin were named by Forbes.com as the top three cities on their "Best Cities for Recent College Graduates" list, which was published online this morning.
As a lifelong Texas resident (born and raised in Dallas, lived in Austin area since 1988), I know from experience that this is a terrific place to live and work.  Some might say that I have no basis for comparison, which is true, because I have never wanted to live elsewhere.
Austin was #3 on the list, with an average starting salary for college grads of $38,700.  Houston and Dallas were slightly higher.

austin realtors: Adventures in the Grocery Store - A Real Estate Allegory - 05/05/08 12:29 AM

For me, there has always been something comforting about the grocery store.  Maybe it's because my first paying job was as a sacker in the Minyard's store in Waxahachie, Texas.  Maybe it's because my grandfather worked for H-E-B Grocery for 38 years until he retired in the early 1970's, not long after I was born.  Whatever the case, I like grocery shopping, unless of course it is with three cranky children in tow.
Today after church, we needed a handful of items from the store, so I decided to go in and grab them while Pam waited with the kids.
Two gallons … (65 comments)

austin realtors: I am hiring Austin real estate agents! - 03/17/08 10:56 PM

I debated over whether or not to post about this or not, but then I decided that this is perhaps the best possible platform to share this information.  I never considered ActiveRain as a recruiting source until recently.  I was thinking about the types of agents that I would like to work with, and I have read about and spoken with many high-caliber agents during my 7+ months here at AR.

So, I wanted to let everyone know that I am looking to hire several experienced agents in the very near future.  I might consider a new or newer … (73 comments)

austin realtors: Psst.....Ask for the business! What do you have to lose? - 01/28/08 10:11 PM

I had a sign call for one of my listings in north Austin yesterday, and we set up an appointment to take a look at the home today at 3:00.  He sounded like a nice young guy on the phone when we spoke, and we had a great rapport during the showing.  I noticed that he was carrying a spiral notebook with notes about lots of houses (along with agent names, phone numbers, etc.).
We spent awhile looking around and talking about the area and the market in general, and he was hoping his wife could make it to see the … (42 comments)

austin realtors: Austin Texas Restaurant Review - Café Mangù in Pflugerville - 11/22/07 12:09 AM

My wife wrote another restaurant review for my primary website (http://www.austintexashomes.com/) and I wanted to share it here as well:
Café Mangù is a small restaurant in Pflugerville serving "Caribbean" food.  The cooks hail from the Dominican Republic.  Some of the dishes, such as ropa vieja, we at Austin Texas Homes were familiar with from Cuban cuisine.  There must be some overlap between the two.
The menu has a great selection of interesting foods, many of which contain plantains, a favorite in Cuban and Dominican Cuisine.  Mangu, itself, is a mashed plantain dish that we tried on our visit.
The parking lot is located in … (5 comments)

austin realtors: What Can We All Learn From the Restaurant Business? - 11/12/07 01:21 PM
We took the kids to a restaurant today for lunch after church, and although this particular place has been a mainstay for the Crouch family for awhile and my wife was excited about going there, today's experience was lackluster at best.  I will probably devote an entire post to this later in the week and I will name it then, but the subject of this post might make it distracting.  Suffice it to say that there were a couple of things that came up both during our meal and as a result of our conversation that made me think of writing this post.  I … (92 comments)

austin realtors: Are you helping your clients through the maze, or are you a stumbling block? - 09/26/07 02:04 PM
I am fast closing in on my eleven year anniversary in real estate (Jan. 2008), and I am still constantly amazed by how many agents and brokers I come across who are either misinforming their clients or simply allowing the client to set their own pre-conceived expecations.  We are the professionals, and as such it is our job to guide our clients through the maze of the transaction.
It seems to me that there are many agents who are content to let me do their job for them, and I'm sure that many of you have also experienced this before.  Typically, … (58 comments)
