Forbes.com released its list of the best cities for couples in the U.S., and I wasn't surprised to see Texas placing really well on the list, with the top two spots going to Dallas and Houston, respectively.  Austin placed #5 on the list, and San Antonio placed 7th.
 
There are always a lot of lists like this floating around, like the most affordable places to live, or the "fittest cities", and so on.  This particular list struck me as interesting, partially because of the criteria they used to put it together:

forbes: Austin Has Some of the Cleanest Drinking Water in the Country - Forbes.com - 05/22/08 11:09 AM

Forbes.com has named Austin as having the second cleanest tap water in the U.S. in its recent study of the largest metro areas.  Des Moines, Iowa was rated #1.  The study covered 77 MSAs (Metropolitan Statistical Areas) across the country.
The ratings were based on several factors:
cloudiness of water (turbidity) bacteria haloacetic acids lead The Austin-San Marcos area showed some of the lowest levels of lead, turbidity and haloacetic acid.

forbes: Austin Texas Named Fastest Growing Large Metro Area in the U.S. - 02/02/08 02:17 PM
 
This past week brought yet another national article promoting Austin, Texas as a city with a vibrant and growing economy. 
Forbes magazine has named Austin the "Fastest Growing Large Metro Area" in the United States, predicting growth of 32% GMP (Gross Metropolitan Product) over the next five years.  Additionally,  the article states that Austin's population is expected to increase by nearly 15% by 2012, according to Moody's Economy.com forecasts.
