funny: My Silly Kids - More Funny Stuff from the Crouch Household - 03/11/09 06:00 PM
It's been awhile since I wrote a post about my kiddos, and I thought it was probably long overdue.  This is not a reflection on their antics in any way, as they continue to provide some very funny moments on a regular basis.  Instead, I've just been plain busy, and I've had other stuff to talk about, it seems.  But I digress...
Earlier this evening, I told my wife (again) that I think my son, Brandon, is one of the most naturally funny kids I have met.  In other words, he doesn't have to TRY to make us laugh.  A prime … (28 comments)

funny: My kids continue to astound me and make me laugh - 02/15/09 07:33 AM
I have certainly written a bunch of posts about my children and the funny stuff that they say and do, but I realized it had been awhile since my last "kid" post.  Time to change that.
We are about eight weeks away from having our fourth child now (!).  I don't know if it's related or not, but Abby (our almost-three-year-old) seems to be getting more and more naughty, and finding new and inventive ways to misbehave.  Actually, I do know - she's just a two year old kid who is testing her limits.  I mentioned to Pam earlier when I … (34 comments)

funny: Funniest Christmas-time Quotes from my Kids - 12/25/08 11:35 AM
As I have shared repeatedly here, my kids have a knack for making me laugh.  The Christmas season is no different, of course.  I just wanted to share a few of the humorous things that they said this year.
Abby is two and a half years old now, and she is a natural performer.  Several times lately, she has appeared on top of the ottoman in our living room, or perhaps behind the puppet stage upstairs, proclaiming, "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!  WELCOME TO DA SHOW!"  When I then ask her to perform, she seems to be out of ideas, but she will sing if prompted … (55 comments)

funny: How Many Hours of Re-Runs Must I Have Watched as a Child? - 12/04/08 06:05 AM
Recently, I wrote a post about my kids' bedtime routine, and how I have begun to incorporate stories from my own life into this time with them:
Sharing the "Stories of My Life" With my Kids
A few nights ago, I was telling them about my own grandfather, who passed away when my son was very little.  I told them that Grandpa used to pick me up from school, and feed me dinner while we watched TV together and just sort of hung out.
We watched "Gilligan's Island", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Leave it to Beaver", "Father Knows Best", and countless … (82 comments)

funny: A Couple of Reasons I Enjoy Being a Dad - 09/08/08 03:37 AM
I have written a good number of posts about my kids and their sense of humor and unique wisdom.  Over the past couple of weeks, each of them has had a memorable quote or two that I wanted to share with you.

We were watching the 1982 musical "Annie" with the kids the other night.  We have this new device that Netflix sells that allows us to select movies online and stream them directly to the TV in our media room.  I was browsing for something that we could all watch, and my wife spotted it and thought the kids … (32 comments)

funny: Must...get...help. Child...too...cute. - 08/11/08 10:55 AM
The title above refers to an old Dana Carvey routine when his son asks him, "Dad - does God have feet?"  We use the phrase "must...get...help" pretty often around our house these days.  In fact, we have said it with all three of our kids ever since my son was a baby.
Abby continues to be ridiculously cute, with her blond curls and funny vocabulary.  She continues to mispronounce "f" as "s":
"Daa - here's you cossee".  Translation:  Dada - here's your coffee.  Of course, this is usually accompanied by me frantically leaping from my chair in an effort to keep … (30 comments)

funny: Now, if you would just....hold....still...for a second. - 08/09/08 01:05 PM
This is probably not enough material for a post, but let's see where it heads.  I have found that some of my better posts start off pretty much unformed when I first sit down to write.
I realized this past week that there are a couple of phrases I use (and maybe you do, too) that are very odd.  When taken at face value, they are really kinda gross.
The first one: I WOULD LIKE TO PICK YOUR BRAIN ABOUT ________.  Have you ever thought about this saying?  I wonder how visitors to our country would feel about this one, if they … (14 comments)

funny: Where Did That Real Estate Word Come From, Anyway? - 06/27/08 08:00 AM

The other day, I was talking to my seven-year old daughter while we were cleaning up the house.  Of course, we must clean up (pick up) before the maids come each Friday, so this has become part of our weekly ritual now.
She asked me where one of our todder's toys went, and I told her, "We keep them by the fireplace."  As an aside, we have had a fireplace in each of our two homes dating back 13 years, yet I have NEVER had a fire.  I don't like the process of creating a fire, or cleaning it … (32 comments)

funny: The Wit and Wisdom of My Nine-Year Old Son - 04/28/08 05:13 AM

My son has always had a good sense of humor.  In fact, my favorite video of him ever was taken when he was about four months old, laughing hysterically as I played, "Peek-a-boo" with him.  Thankfully, the clip is not marred by my appearance, so it's really just a very cute baby in a diaper on the floor laughing like crazy.  The funniest part to me on this particular piece of film was when I could just say the word "peekaboo" without hiding my face and it would still send him into a fresh fit of hilarity.
Recently, I have come to realize that … (25 comments)

funny: Am I the only one wondering about this stuff? - 04/07/08 04:55 PM
While I was quietly lamenting the fact that I had just purchased $118.00 worth of groceries that I probably could have carried out of the store with my hands if I were feeling ambitious, I had a few thoughts that I wanted to share.  Additionally, I have a few questions.
Could someone explain to me how so many Mattress Superstores manage to stay afloat?  Mattress warehouses are becoming as ubiquitous as Starbucks, at least here in the Austin area.  Every time I turn around, there is another one.  Every new shopping area includes one, sometimes two.
Perhaps I not changing my mattress … (58 comments)

funny: Another episode of "Those Wacky Crouches"! - 03/18/08 01:53 PM

This past Sunday, after church, I was talking with a friend of mine for awhile, and my wife and kids were at the church playground.  My wife later related a brief story to me that I thought was hysterical and I wanted to share it here.
My son, who is barely nine, is a very big kid (just over 5 feet tall, wearing a men's size 9 shoe), but he is still really just a little boy inside.  His little sisters were playing on the playground, and he was pestering me a little bit because he was bored and hungry.  Since I wasn't ready … (34 comments)

funny: Our Visit to IKEA Yesterday - 02/26/08 04:31 PM

While we were out and about enjoying some phenomenal weather yesterday, my wife mentioned that she would like to check out the new IKEA store in Round Rock.  I had been there once, and I cringed inwardly a little bit, because I was familiar with the layout there.  However, they do have a massive number of inexpensive products, so I was game.

When we first arrived, my wife attempted to sit in a chair that looked to be made of nylon on a frame made of plastic or perhaps metal, and it sort of dumped her onto the floor on her behind.  … (24 comments)

funny: Why do I have so much trouble with song lyrics? More about my "lazy ear syndrome" - 02/20/08 01:51 AM

I was 9 years old when I started listening to the Beatles.  My mom bought me some of their albums, and others I purchased with lawn-mowing money.  I would study the lyrics as I played the records over and over again, since precision was important to me for some reason.  Even difficult and intricate lyrics like this one from "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" remain a part of my memory vault:
Picture yourself on a train in a station,With plasticine porters with looking glass ties,Suddenly someone is there at the turnstile,The girl with kaleidoscope eyes...

As a side note, yes, this song is … (28 comments)

funny: Someday, I will look back on all of this and laugh. On second thought, why not just laugh now? - 02/17/08 07:35 AM
My children continue to amaze me every day with their intelligence and humor.  I wanted to share a few recent things that occurred in my house that made me realize that my kids are both witty and smart.
We had lunch today after church at Serrano's, which is a Mexican restaurant which has always had consistently good food and service, at a reasonable price.  My son ordered the grilled cheese with fries, but when our waiter brought this dish out, there was a pile of lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes on the plate next to the sandwich itself.  You must understand that vegetables … (38 comments)

funny: What if I Ran My Business Like Those Guys Do? - 02/13/08 03:34 AM

I have read many marketing books and attended several seminars over the years, and I have heard many times that it is a great idea to draw ideas from other unrelated industries.  As an example, most people know that Ray Kroc made McDonald's huge by making things uniform in all of their restaurants, from the food down to the stainless steel counters.  This made it much easier to successfully franchise, since the customer would always know what to expect.

With that in mind, I started thinking about some places that would be less advisable to use as examples for what I do … (74 comments)

funny: My Two Daughters - 02/10/08 02:44 PM
I love the fact that I am able to spend so much time with my kids.  Since I work from home most days, I get to see them far more often than most of my friends do.  Our toddler is changing quickly from a baby to a little girl, and my six-year old will soon be seven.
Recently, our toddler Abby has discovered a method to get what she wants that is very effective.
She will ask to be picked up, usually by saying, "Pick up my Abby."
When you pick her up, she will cradle your face in her little hands and … (26 comments)

funny: My funny and intriguing son - 01/27/08 03:50 PM

My nine-year old son, Brandon, is one of the most interesting and witty kids that I have encountered.  Sometimes, he says things while joking around with us that make my wife Pam and I double over in laughter.  Other times, he is able to do this unintentionally.  Over the past few weeks since his birthday (mid-December), he has had a few moments that I thought were worth documenting here.
The other day, Pam asked Brandon to help get some cereal for his little sister.  He prepared the bowl, and Pam remarked, "That's great, Br.." when she was interrupted sharply by Brandon:
"Well, … (35 comments)

funny: More Kid Fun at Our House - My Toddler is a "Monk" Fan Now - 01/22/08 10:45 AM

My children continue to provide a source of entertainment and joy in my life.  I feel blessed beyond measure to be their dad.  Recently, our toddler, Abby, who will 22 months old soon, has coined a few new phrases that I find funny.
"I want pick up my Abby".  This is self-explanatory, I suppose, and she is really just mimicking what we say ("I'm gonna pick up my Abby.")
"We wow." =  "Right now", as in "I want carry Abby we wow." or "I want to see Dora we wow."
Lately, I have noticed an interesting new trend.  I am a fan of … (34 comments)

funny: More Quotes from My Children - 01/12/08 02:59 AM
My children continue to amaze and humor me each day.  I wanted to share a few choice sayings here.  I will work my way from my oldest to youngest this time.
My son, who is nine, is a musical genius (not really exaggerating).  He has absolute pitch (a.k.a. "perfect pitch") and he can pick out tunes on the piano by ear.  Although I can carry a tune, I have NO musical talent, so I am always a bit astonished by his abilities in this arena.

The other day, we had some beautiful weather (mid-70's, a little breezy, sunny), and he was happy … (21 comments)

funny: Childhood Music Memories - 01/03/08 02:31 PM
Even though I am one of the judges for this contest, I had to think awhile in order to come up with something original that I could write about with regard to my childhood music memories.  I recently wrote a post about my 1977 record collection, which included several songs that seem to have held up very well over the years since then.
Since I didn't want to discuss those songs again here, I decided to go a different direction altogether.

As a child, I was fortunate enough to grow up near my maternal grandparents, whom I adored.  Since they lived so close, … (39 comments)
