seo: ALERT: Google and Facebook are NOT Locked in Epic Battle to the Death! - 01/12/11 12:56 PM
Sorry for the dramatic headline, but I figured it might not hurt to use the same tactic that I’ve seen others employ with regard to my email inbox. I guess I’m just getting a bit tired of hearing self-proclaimed gurus and experts say things like, “SEO is dead” or “Facebook KO’s Google” or anything similar. The fact that YouTube receives more searches than Google, or Facebook has more traffic than Google, doesn’t mean that Google is harmed by this or going away anytime soon. Google actually owns YouTube, in case you didn’t already know that part. Yes, I agree that

seo: WOW! One of my ActiveRain posts garnered 7 of the top 10 spots on Google! - 07/18/09 05:36 PM
On July 3rd, my family and I were rescued by David Castilleja of Braswell A/C and Electric when our upstairs A/C unit stopped working. I decided to blog about my great experience in an effort to get him more business. He was quick, honest, inexpensive, and articulate. This morning, I received the following email: Jason - Thanks to your recommendation, I called Dave at Braswell last night with my AC problem. He showed up first thing this morning (Saturday) and fixed the problem. I was amazed at his immediate attention and how inexpensive his service was. Thanks for your Blog --Mike

seo: How to Leverage Your Social Media Time to Benefit Your Google Placement - A Couple of Basic Tips - 05/02/09 08:56 PM
I have owned and maintained a real estate website since 1998. My site has been responsible for generating well over half of our company business during that period of time. Needless to say, I feel that search engine optimization (SEO) is important for all of us. One of the items that Google and other search engines use to determine whether a site has value or not is that site's incoming links. What is an incoming link? Basically, it's any link which points directly to your site (e.g. Austin Texas real estate links to my website). In essence, Google views incoming links as "votes"

seo: Google Views ActiveRain as Even More Valuable Now - My SEO Perspective - 12/18/08 07:56 PM
I don't want to make this post overly rudimentary, but I would like to start out (for those of you who are complete newbies) by stating that "SEO" means "search engine optimization". Each time I have written a post with SEO in the title, someone inevitably asks. Now that we have that out of the way, I wanted to provide some anecdotal evidence for you that Google is indexing ActiveRain more frequently. First, I need to explain that I have Google Alerts set up for a number of keywords and phrases that I am interested in, such as "austin texas homes"

seo: How ActiveRain's Re-Blogging Can Help Us All! A basic SEO concept that I finally appreciate now - 09/24/08 07:57 PM
Not too long ago, ActiveRain launched the "Re-Blog" feature, which allows members to designate posts that they will allow others to post on their own blogs. I have been fortunate enough to have had about 8-10 of my posts re-blogged since this was launched. Each time this happens, I get an additional 25 points, which is great, but there is a much larger benefit at play here. At first, I found this to be flattering, but I didn't really consider all of the SEO benefits, even though I have been studying SEO and optimizing my own site for the search engines since

seo: My Perspective on the Great ActiveRain Content Debate of 2008 - 04/29/08 05:42 PM
DISCLAIMER: I apologize in advance for the sheer length of this post, but I had a lot to say apparently. I didn't want to include images this time, as I thought they might detract from the message I am trying to get across. I have seen a bunch of posts with regard to what is "proper" content on ActiveRain lately. Unless you live under a rock, you have probably also seen these around lately. I left the longest comment of my entire blogging career last night on Jessica Horton's featured post (Working the Net or Networking? Which has value? ). She gave me some

seo: How to generate and track backlinks for your Active Rain profile - A few basic SEO tips - 02/15/08 12:56 PM
The first comment I made on Active Rain was August 5th, 2007. Since then, I have amassed 7404 comments made over the past 182 days. That means that I am averaging 40.68 comments daily here. I could write (and have written) posts about the friendships that began as stray comments on AR, or the referrals that I have received (also covered that a few times in posts). However, I wanted to point out that the "Google juice" is a phenomenal side benefit of commenting that you may not have realized. What am I talking about? Well, it's really quite simple: The more you comment

seo: Are you a Google Juicer? ActiveRain Offers You Some Incredible SEO Power - 02/03/08 09:44 PM
I read Jeff Belonger's post from earlier today (Bah Humbug, just SHOW ME the MONEY, not the points...... ), and while I was commenting, it inspired me to write this one. I wanted to take a minute to explain how powerful the ActiveRain "Google juice" really is, and how you can harness the power of this network to your advantage. Why does Google (or Yahoo, or any other search engine) like ActiveRain posts so much? Well, the key is fresh content, and AR is a site producing thousands of pages of content everyday. When a site is able
