twitter: ALERT: Google and Facebook are NOT Locked in Epic Battle to the Death! - 01/12/11 12:56 PM
Sorry for the dramatic headline, but I figured it might not hurt to use the same tactic that I’ve seen others employ with regard to my email inbox.
I guess I’m just getting a bit tired of hearing self-proclaimed gurus and experts say things like, “SEO is dead” or “Facebook KO’s Google” or anything similar. The fact that YouTube receives more searches than Google, or Facebook has more traffic than Google, doesn’t mean that Google is harmed by this or going away anytime soon.  Google actually owns YouTube, in case you didn’t already know that part.
Yes, I agree that … (69 comments)

twitter: Chevrolet Wants to Meet Me?!? Twitter Brings Me VIP Access to Austin Concert - 04/03/10 06:29 PM
During my recent attendance at SXSW Interactive, I received an email from Sarah Solomon Bykrit, who works for Fleishman-Hillard out of Dallas.  She indicated that she was working on behalf of Chevy, who had identified me as "someone they want to meet while in Austin" based on my Twitter stream and following.
How cool is that? Sarah invited me to the VIP area for a Cheap Trick/Bodeans concert at Auditorium Shores.  My wife and I got a sitter for the evening, and we were excited about seeing Cheap Trick play "live".  Believe me, we were not disappointed.  My wife said it … (26 comments)

twitter: I have over 10,000 Twitter followers now - What does this really mean? - 10/24/09 09:36 PM
I remember getting invited to check out Twitter about 2 years ago.  Next, I remember thinking that it seemed useless.  Months passed....I got emails that said things like, "@delicioushair is now following you on Twitter". WHAT?!?  Why?
The notion of someone following me used to strike me as both odd and off-putting. I guess it sounds catchier than saying that someone is "paying attention to you on Twitter", but that's basically exactly what this means.  I prefer to think of my subscribers, friends, contacts, and followers as part of my online audience.  The better you are at building an audience, the … (75 comments)

twitter: Do you have a screenwriter? Why not hire a director as well? Avoiding unwanted social media advice - 06/24/09 11:08 PM
I don't profess to be a technology or social media guru, but I will say that I have been immersed in this stuff for a couple of years, so I certainly have developed my own set of opinions on what works and what doesn't.  That being said, one of the worst pieces of advice that I have witnessed is something along these lines:
"Don't blog about your personal life." or
"Don't tweet about your boring day.  No one cares!" And so on.
I utterly disagree with those statements above.  If people care about YOU, then they will likely care about what is … (52 comments)

twitter: How I Managed to Recruit Agents from ActiveRain, Twitter, AND Facebook! - 02/13/09 01:42 PM
Last week, I realized that I have managed to attract agents to our company from each of my personal top three social networking sites (AR, Twitter, and Facebook).  I have found that agents who are already embracing social media have some of the best potential around.

SO, HOW DID I FIND THEM? I guess the quickest answer is to say that most of them found me.  Two of my current agents, Christi Baylor and Marisa Ladd, came from my blog right here on ActiveRain.  They were already AR members before we met, which made our "in person" connection that … (117 comments)

twitter: Twitter Brought Me a Very Cool FREE Gift! - 02/06/09 11:56 PM
I have been interacting a lot on Twitter over the past few months, and I've made some cool friends over there.  One of my friends heard that we were having a baby, and it turns out that she owns a company called Happy Panda Baby, which specializes in clothing and gifts for bigger babies.  Since all three of our babies have been big so far, I have little doubt that our fourth will be as well.
One night, my friend Pamela Kramer (@PMKU) suddenly said, "You need a Happy Panda diaper cake!".
Um....what?
I hadn't seen a diaper cake before, but I was intrigued.  … (36 comments)

twitter: I will be teaching a class on "Social Media 101" in February - 01/31/09 10:49 PM

As part of my ongoing effort to push myself outside of my comfort zone, I will be teaching a class on "Social Media 101" at Gracy Title's Spicewood Springs office on February 18th from 2-3pm.  I arranged for an SEO class to be taught just before mine by Ben Finklea, CEO of Volacci Search Marketing.  (I stole the header above from my friend's email invite for the event.)
The cost to attend will be $25 for one class, or $35 for both.  If things go well, I may work toward getting a class approved for MCE credit (perhaps "Online Real Estate … (38 comments)

twitter: Are YOU a part of the revolution? If not, be prepared to be left behind by those who are. - 11/13/08 03:51 PM
I realized recently that we are now in the midst of a revolution and a dramatic paradigm shift in the way that marketing is conducted.  This may seem like a strong term for those who don't "get it" yet, but believe me when I say that it is nothing short of phenomenal.
In early 1998, about a year after I got my real estate license, my business partner and I decided to launch our own real estate website (www.austintexashomes.com).  Despite the fact that we got a lot of funny looks and reactions from other agents in our office, we felt that … (153 comments)

twitter: How to Feed Your ActiveRain Blog Directly to Facebook and Twitter - Get More Exposure for the Same Effort! - 10/26/08 05:45 PM

I have been out of town for several days, having attended the RE Barcamp in Houston.  Before I left, I wrote a post about leads that I have garnered from AR along with other social media sites:
How I Managed to Receive Leads from ActiveRain, Twitter and Facebook!
I told my wife jokingly that I need to travel more often, since that post gained me an additional 53 subscribers!  I might need to go to Houston every month.  :)
At any rate, I promised the comments to write a post about how to automatically feed your AR blog to Facebook.  … (207 comments)

twitter: How I Managed to Receive Leads from ActiveRain, Twitter and Facebook! - 10/21/08 02:56 PM
I don't consider myself to be a social marketing guru (yet), but I do spend a little time each week on all of the top social media sites that I know about.  Sometimes, it's just a few minutes per week.  Obviously, I spend the majority of my online time right here on ActiveRain, but I have become more active on Twitter lately - both are highly addictive, in my humble opinion.  Facebook also seems to have some interesting potential as a business tool, if used properly.
I just wanted to take a minute to share some of my experiences with the … (144 comments)
