     One of the best things in New Jersey, especially Monmouth County, is the impressive number and quality of the parks that dot the landscape. The park system makes the "Garden State", live up to that moniker. Both state and local parks provide beautiful open space and many recreational opportunities that in many cases are free or for a minimal fee. There are 30 parks and 6 golf courses run by the park system. The use of the parks also have done well to preserve open space through conservation areas, greenways, farms, marinas and more. Holmdel Park is one of my favorites as it serves as the host site for many Cross Country running events of which I used to do in my youth although I never got a chance to run there.
