Is the US government the worst credit risk of all? - 05/29/09 07:16 PM
We wouldn't go so far as to say the US government is the worst credit risk on the planet. The world is a big place and there are a lot of truly screwy things going on hither and yon. But if you do stop and think for a moment - step back and look at the thing from a banker's perspective - what do the numbers say?
Most of us human beings have our creditworthiness determined by our personal balance sheet, how much is in the plus column and how much in the minus. Add up the assets and subtract the … (3 comments)

When is a guru really a guru? - 05/28/09 12:19 PM
I Spoke recently with Eric Tyson on my Creating Wealth Show #95 and he revealed his best-selling author's thoughts on the topic of market gurus and their prognostications (http://www.jasonhartman.com/radioshows/). Is it conspiracy, idiocy, or basic opportunism? Tyson targets the Johnny-come-latelies who have piled onto the recent stock market decline and floated around devilish Dow predictions like 3900 or worse.
Should we pay attention to these people?
Tyson's verdict is you need to look back at their history of prediction. Roll back the clock 5, 10, or even 15 years ago to see where they were and what they were doing then. Were these … (0 comments)

Financial coup d’etat in America - part 1 - 05/27/09 07:57 PM
If you like reading about conspiracy theories and viewpoints of that sort, you’re really going to like my interview with Catherine Austin Fitts in The Creating Wealth Show #96. Ms (http://www.jasonhartman.com/radioshows/). Fitts name pops up from time to time on the syndicated late night radio show Coast to Coast AM but, lest you dismiss her views as those espoused by a wild-eyed radical tilting at shadows, remember she served as Assistant Secretary of Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner during the first Bush presidency. Fitts also was an investment banker, and managing director and board member of the Wall Street firm, Dillon, … (2 comments)

Recession or depression? Perspective from Eric Tyson - 05/27/09 02:06 PM
If you’re looking for a glimmer of silver lining in the doom clouds on the horizon, take a listen to The Creating Wealth Show #95, where I talk it over with bestselling personal finance author of several Dummies books, Eric Tyson. Tyson reflects on his opinion that recent comparisons of our current economic climate and the Great Depression of the 1920’s and 1930’s is melodramatic fantasy. In his view, the numbers simply aren’t there to support that claim. He likens today’s slowdown to a typical post-war recession. When you look at the unemployment rate and reduction in GDP, that’s really the … (0 comments)

Financing, real estate, and your IRA - 05/21/09 05:40 PM
We've been talking recently about investing in real estate through your Individual Retirement Account. For years, Platinum Properties Investor Network has recommended the powerful combination of appreciation and income this asset provides. Add in our innovative refinancing strategy and you have the foundation of an incredible chance to reach financial independence.
Over the past few days, we noticed we may have rushed too quickly past a topic of critical interest, namely, how to finance property purchases if you don't have enough money in the IRA. Yes, you can use financing when buying real estate through your IRA.
If you decide to … (0 comments)

Are builders becoming courageous again? - 05/21/09 04:45 PM
Builder confidence for single-family homes jumped two points in May. This followed a five point increase in April, which left the Wells Fargo NAHB Housing Market Index at its highest point since September 2008. The index surveys builders and asks them to rate sales expectations for the next six months as "good", "fair", or "poor."
In and of itself, there is certainly no immediate need to declare the recent economic turmoil at an end and nothing but wine and cheese on the horizon, but it is something to keep an eye on. One month could be a blip. Maybe two months … (2 comments)

While running my successful real estate and media businesses, I (Jason Hartman) believe that giving back to the community plays an important role in building strong personal relationships. In addition to my real estate investing company (Platinum Properties Investor Network - www.JasonHartman.com), I established The Jason Hartman Foundation in 2005 with $200,000 of my own money to provide financial literacy education to young adults so they can utilize the all important real world skills not taught in school which are the key to the financial stability and success of future generations. We’re in a global monetary crisis caused by decades of misguided policies and the cycle of financial dependence has to be broken, literacy and self-reliance are a good start. I am here to help!
