gfi outlet: When GFI Receptacles Do More Than They Are Supposed To Do - 09/20/14 07:42 PM
I often find other electrical problems when GFI receptacles do more than they are supposed to do.
Why would that be?
Because an improperly-wired GFI receptacle indicates unprofessional work.
And in houses that have been substantially remodeled, there is usually unprofessional work.
UNPROFESSIONAL WORK IN ONE PLACE WILL IS THE TIP OFF TO UNPROFESSIONAL WORK ELSEWHERE.  AND IF WIRING, OR PLUMBING, OR SOMETHING ELSE THAT I CAN SEE IS A PROBLEM, I ESPECIALLY WORRY ABOUT WHAT I CAN'T SEE.

gfi outlet: Electrical Hidden Treasures! - 05/19/13 10:31 PM
On two successive inspections I encountered electrical hidden treasures!
One house was remodeled recently and the other decades ago!
The house on the left had a new kitchen arrangement, including cabinets.
I tripped one of the kitchen GFI receptacles and heard it trip.

It said, "Jay, not sure if you remember us, but you inspected our home about one year ago.  I hope all is well.  Do you have an electrician you could refer to us?  The electrical outlets in the kitchen are all out :(   Lulu Belle"
Well, that could be any of many things.  So I probed a bit.  This began a string of emails.
"All of them?  How long has this been so?"
"A couple of days ago one side … (52 comments)
