building code: Statewide Missouri Building Standard Proposed - 02/09/12 06:40 PM

Okay, you're selling your house in an area of Missouri with no building codes or a city code.
The deck you had built last year fails to meet the new statewide code proposed for building inspectors to apply at the point of sale --- and the buyer changes his mind or demands a lower price.

One of the biggest problems facing rural Missouri in its areas where there are presently no building codes is the poor ISO ratings of the local fire departments.
On a scale of 1 to 10, one being the “best” and 10 being “no fire department at all”, many rural fire departments are rated between 6 and 8 on the ISO scale.
This low rating is measured by evaluating the department’s record in arrival times at the scene from the time the fire is called in, the quality of training and equipment, and the availability of a consistent and lengthy flow … (0 comments)

While opposing MO HB 1714...and arguing in favor of building codes for the unregulated areas of Missouri...it has been brought to my attention that I have been at cross purposes. The bad parts of this bill are obvious and have been addressed in a hundred different ways. It is a conflict of interest and provides a means for real estate salesmen to punish a home inspector for revealing information in a report that causes the buyer to walk away from the sale.
