Wachusett Reservoir is a 4,135 acre reservoir located in several towns (Boylston, Clinton, Hubbardston, Holden, Leominster, Princeton, Rutland, Sterling, and West Boylston).  Wachusett Reservoir was built between 1897-1908 by damming the South Branch of the Nashua River.  The Wachusett Reservoir still supplies some of Boston's water and gets some of it's water from the Quabbin Reservoir.  This reservoir is the source of drinking water for over $2 million people and activities are strictly regulated out here.  There is no swimming or direct contact activities allowed here.  Wachusett Reservoir is the second largest body of water in the state of Massachusetts covering … (2 comments)

100 DAYS OF CENTRAL MASS FEATURES THE QUABBIN RESERVOIR
Located in Belchertown is the Quabbin Reservoir, one of the largest man made water sources in the United States.  Filled, it holds 412 billion gallons of water and is fed by 3 branches of the Swift River and seasonally by the Ware River.  They have a lookout tower, multiple picnic areas and fields to play in and some great places to view the reservoir.  We take the kids up there to fly kites and have a picnic a few times each year.  It is beautiful in the Fall, the foliage is spectacular and … (0 comments)
