My Reflections on an Amazing ActiveRain Zoom Call on 3/12/2024
In some ways this post about our Zoom call with Brad Andersohn was easy to write, but it was also a bit of a challenge.
It wasn’t that the topic is all that difficult to write about, but more due to all the emotions that arise as a result of what happened yesterday on the weekly Zoom call, and my involvement with the most amazing online community around since September 2006!

This is a special shout-out and thank you to Michael Jacobs, a long-time AR member who inspires us to ponder so many things...in every post he shares!
Michael has, for years, shared thoughtful articles that take us on intellectual and emotional journeys we don’t expect, and perhaps don’t realize we are taking until we finish reading and realize how our thinking has been transformed or inspired.

Meeting up with other ActiveRain members in person is always special. It might be a larger gathering. or maybe just 1 or 2 people. It could be planned while on a business trip or vacationing, or something impromptu.
In this case it was during vacation.

When I joined AR in 2006 I had no clue what it was all about. Nor do I recall any expectations of what might result from participating in this new online community and the relatively new phenomenon of blogging. Social media was pretty new and evolving rapidly. Who would have thought strong friendships could develop with those you meet online…OK, there IS online dating!
It became obvious very quickly relationships, and powerful ones, were forged on AR. That’s true today, perhaps even more so. I suspect many reading this will agree.

Getting Featured on ActiveRain has been a big deal as long as I have been a member… and that’s been more than a few years. Seems to me we had around 6000 members when I joined.
I suspect most bloggers love to be featured....who wouldn't?! After all you get that beautiful gold star plus extra points, and plenty of recognition from your AR friends who comment which means even more points. And there may be some envy from your peers that YOUR post is on the Feature Board and theirs is not.

Here's an important change for all to be aware of...at least if you hope to have your feature-worthy post featured!And even if your post does not get featured that photo at the very top of your post will stand out. So choose carefully and make it meaningful depending on your topic!
And look for more changes on ActiveRain as they continue to make improvements!

I’ve written before about my successes with floor time when I first started in the business – here’s another.
I started with RE/MAX Destiny in the Harvard Square area of Cambridge (photo is of Harvard Yard), across the river from Boston, when I was first licensed.
There was terrific walk-in traffic in this store-front style brokerage, and I took on floor time almost immediately. It paid off in spades!!

As part of the 2018 Blog JumpStart Challenge we are asked to share our thoughts on the Weltanschauung, the guiding principles and philosophy of the Activerain community.
Of the various principles I particularly like the view that “ActiveRain believes that it is in the best interests of real estate professionals to build a community that is focused on educating one another.”

We have been anticipating, and talking about this meet-up for a year, since a bunch of us met at the NAR meetings in Orlando in November 2016. And the moment finally arrived a couple of days ago in Chicago!!

Lots of us are finding problems uploading photos, especially the feature photos, among other glitches from time to time. While we understand these things are being worked on, it's nice to have some work-arounds to get you where you want to be.

Our San Diego ActiveRain Meetup today at the beach in Cardiff was a big hit. How could it not be with some terrific people, good food, great conversation and a beautiful setting on the beach with fabulous weather – such a treat after the tough storm this past weekend.

I had the great fortune to attend an ActiveRain meetup in San Francisco held during the NAR meetings back in November of 2013.
