Oceanside real estate is a study in contrasts, from multimillion dollar oceanfront properties to $70,000 condos, from new construction homes and condos to an abundance of short sales, pre-foreclosures and REOs, from tract housing subdivisions to 55+ communities (seniors). There are ocean views and terrific beaches, and rolling hills and views of the mountains to the north in Camp Pendleton and to the east.

Oceanside is the northern-most residential community in North County San Diego (Camp Pendleton is the most northern community but I would not consider it a residential community, being that it is a military base).
Oceanside is about 1.5 to 2 hours south of Los Angeles, depending on traffic, and about 45 minutes (around 40 miles) north of downtown San Diego. With somewhere around 170,000 residents, it is one of the largest San Diego County communities - the 3rd I think - covering an area of about 41 square miles.

Oceanside real estate buyers have lots of opportunities these days, and pricing is lower on average here than in any other North County coastal community.

As a non-surfing surfing enthusiast, I recently wrote about surfing in the Southern California area, focusing on Carlsbad, Encinitas and Cardiff. I mentioned the California Surf Museum in Oceanside but had not yet paid a visit. So I could not comment very much.
Well, today I stopped in on my way home from showing Oceanside homes- and I'm glad I did. While I do not yet surf, I absolutely am enthralled with the history of the sport here in Southern California and the lifestyles that have evolved.
