Animate Your Relocating Buyers’ Interest with Animoto
I specialize in relocation, as a niche market, in part because I enjoy it, but also because I’ve made 4 major moves (over 1000 miles) with kids, cars, cats, dogs, and 2 jobs, so I know how to do it well.

I’ve also worked on relocation from a corporate perspective – setting up relocation programs, relocating employees in and out, and have used a couple of corporate relocation programs through my wife’s former companies when we moved to and from Minnesota. I get it.

But the point of my thinking here … (15 comments)

photos: The 10 Photo Commandments - 01/11/12 11:02 PM
The 10 Photo Commandments
Real estate photos for marketing a listing effectively are a huge deal – we all know that, as does the buying public. Sadly, many in our profession appear to be clueless on this issue, or don’t care. There is simply no excuse in my opinion in this age of digital photography for crappy photos, or lack thereof. None!

Here is my 10 Photo Commandments List for sellers that I just created and have now added to my pre-listing package, and plan to include in my listing presentation.

Making sellers aware that bad or very … (24 comments)

Only in California on the Freeway? Perhaps Not
I saw this vehicle the other day on the 805 freeway and felt it warranted a photo (yes someone else took the photo).

Look carefully – what do you think?

First, my impression is that this is pretty savvy marketing. Tons of people will see a car with advertising, especially on the road, so it could be a great way to get your message out.

Of course you have to be a careful and courteous driver or you might find it working against you. Cutting people off, speeding, … (18 comments)

photos: The End of Christmas Day, and I'm Pooped - 12/26/11 12:04 AM
The End of Christmas Day, and I'm Pooped Man oh man, it’s been a tough day.
So much to do. Presents to unwrap, food to cook (smoke tri tip, grilled salmon with dill mustard sauce, roasted cauliflower with raisins, breadcrumbs and capers, sautéed asparagus in garlic and truffle oil), family to enjoy, especially that grand-daughter getting exposed to her first Christmas. You can guess who the center of attention was! There must be at least 200 photos and few vids and the night is not over.
Hard to believe Christmas has come and almost gone, and there wasn’t even any time … (29 comments)

Why Would You do That to Your Seller?
Recent observations and experiences, when helping some buyers find their perfect home, and searching for properties in the MLS for several families that are relocating to the area, prompted this post.

One has to wonder sometimes about how some agents think, or don’t, about their clients. Some appear to have lost sight about their responsibilities.

WHY would you include not 1 but 2 different bathroom photos, both with only a toilet in view and the toilet seat up, on an $800,000 home? I’m not sure what you are trying to … (20 comments)

photos: HAPPY THANKSGIVING to All From Carlsbad California!! - 11/24/11 04:26 PM
I was visiting my Mom and sister in West Chester, PA a couple of years ago in the fall and found these turkeys up on the roof.
My Mom’s house is a 3-story 1750s colonial so they were WAAAY out of reach.
There were also a couple up in the trees and 1 standing on the table on the patio, although my photos did not turn out all that well.
I thought it an appropriate card to doctor up for the Thanksgiving holiday.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

A Visit to Wiamea Canyon on Kaua’i, Hawai’i
One of the many highlights of our trip to Kaua’i was a visit to the Wiamea Canyon, nicknamed the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.

And rightly so.

Wiamea Canyon is about 3500 feet deep, so not quite as impressive as the Grand Canyon, nor is it as wide or long. But Wiamea Canyon views are absolutely spectacular with amazing colors and distant waterfalls, especially in the sunlight. And depending on where you are you can see the ocean about 10 miles away as well. The drive up the … (11 comments)

photos: Good Morning, This is Your Wake-up Call - 11/04/11 02:25 AM

Good Morning, This is Your Wake-up Call Getting a wake-up call when traveling  on business is often essential.
Getting one on vacation is not always on the agenda.
But here on Kauai one doesn’t have a choice.
Kauai is riddled with chickens, everywhere. Along the road, in the parks, in fields, in parking lots at the shopping centers, and at our hotel along the ocean.
The roosters, it seems, take their job very seriously.
Whether it’s competition because there are so many, or just because, they start VERY early in the morning and tend to make it their duty to … (19 comments)

photos: Inspiration with Perspiration - 09/24/11 12:54 PM
On a recent visit to Lake Tahoe we took a long hike by Emerald Bay on one of the more popular hiking trails in the Lake Tahoe area (at least according to the guide books). More on that later.
It was a moderate hike, and fairly warm, so the hike up hill to Eagle Lake (a vertical rise of about 1000 feet) generated some perspiration. But the views were spectacular of the mountains, Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay, pine trees and the falls, and more than worth the physical effort.
Taking along a camera, for me, always generates inspiration for enjoying … (13 comments)

photos: Giant Magnolia Flower - West Chester PA - 06/19/11 10:27 PM
Giant Magnolia Flower - West Chester PA  I would swear this is the sort of thing you would find in a rain forest.
Of course I've never been so what do I know.
But I can imagine.
Spending time here in the country outside Philadelphia (Marshallton, outside West Chester, to be exact) at my Mom's has been an eye opener in terms of some of the plantings she has.
It was pretty cool to be able to capture a whole series of photos of this amazing flower (well, it's a bit tree actually) from bud to open blossom and after the petals … (19 comments)

photos: But Mom, I'm Not Sure I'm Ready - 05/29/11 10:40 PM
We discovered these 2 baby owls on a couple of trees at my Mom's house outside Philadelphia when we arrived home this evening. I only noticed because the cat was out in the yard (but thankfully had not seen them) and the mother owl (a screech owl I think) was flying around in the trees and calling them.
We lured the cat in (food always works well) and things settled down. The owlets didn't look like they were quite ready for leaving, but Mom kept encouraging. Sure enough, an hour later, they were gone. Hopefully they were able to fly back … (30 comments)

photos: Photos Evoke Memories of Home - 05/16/11 10:32 PM
Photos Evoke Memories of Home I'm in Philadelphia visiting my Mom and sister for a couple of days, after 4 days in Washington DC for the NAR/CRS meetings, and heading back to the Left Coast tomorrow.
It's been a whirlwind trip, with lots of memories from living on the East Coast years ago, both in the Philadelphia area and near DC.
I've been doing some work around the house to help my Mom (and there's a lot to do given the size of the house and the yard) and strolling around the yard brought back memories of living back East, particularly … (9 comments)

A  Blending of Technology and the Human Spirit  Technology enables us to do some pretty amazing things. The human spirit can as well.
When there is the will, and determination, seemingly insurmountable obstacles can be overcome.
Such is the story of these 4 young athletes.

Just consider, if you can even imagine, what you see before you!!
I suspect we all take our mobility for granted. We can walk, or run, wherever we want. We can hike through beautiful forests or up the sides of mountains, take leisurely strolls with a loved one along the beach in the sunset.
We go … (96 comments)

photos: A Visit to Chinatown in San Francisco, CA - 04/19/11 10:29 PM
A Visit to San Francisco's Chinatown San Francisco's Chinatown is an amazing place to visit, and of the Chinatowns I've seen (New York, Boston, LA), the best in our country.
It is also reportedly the largest outside of Asia.
We spend several hours strolling around San Francisco's Chinatown on Sunday, which included a mile or so of walking up and down some of San Francisco's famed hills (more up than down, it seemed, in the Pacific Heights area - photo at right) with fabulous views of Alcatraz, East Bay, Coit Tower and the Transamerica Building.
Anyone who has visited San Francisco's … (19 comments)

photos: A Tour Through the Piedmont Area of Oakland, CA - 04/17/11 01:05 PM
A Photographic Tour Through the Piedmont Area of Oakland, CA Taking a stroll with a camera without any sort of agenda, especially in an unfamiliar but very cool area, is great fun, at least for me. You never know what you might find, and somehow having a camera makes discovery that much more intriguing.
Somehow you notice more that way where otherwise you simply might have walked on without a second thought.
This tour is a random collection of architecture, street scenes, signage, store fronts and interiors and a bunch of other stuff I simply found interesting. You gain a perspective … (9 comments)

A Visit to New Orleans Louisiana | A 4-Day Visual Retrospective
I just spent 4 full days in New Orleans for the Council of Residential Specialists (CRS) and National Association of REALTORS (NAR) fall meetings. Numerous meetings and long conversations with new and old friends made for a very full schedule with limited time to get out and see the city.
But several jaunts out for food (The Upperline Restaurant, the Acme Oyster House, G. W. Fins, Mulates) and to poke around the French Quarter for a hour before the CRS Inauguration and buy a mask for the event provided … (17 comments)

Upperline Restaurant in New Orleans - A Delight for the Senses  My visit to The Upperline Restaurant in New Orleans the other night with friends was a delight for the senses, combining two of my passions.
The Upperline Restaurant was a perfect marriage of art and great food in a delightful old building. Owner JoAnn Clevenger is a charming host, restauranteur, and art collector, and you know immediately you are in for a treat upon entering.
If you can steer your eyes away from the walls that are crammed with an eclectic collection of art spanning decades from local and regional … (11 comments)

photos: There's a Message There Somewhere - 10/23/10 09:17 PM

I saw this van parked along the coast road in Cardiff-by-the Sea (a.k.a. Cardiff) across from the beach. No doubt it belongs to a surfer, judging from the wetsuit hanging outside.
I was stopped at the light and fortunately had a few seconds to snap a photo. You see all sorts of interesting vehicles here in California, especially near the beach. This one was a real prize, I think.
I would have liked to have met the owner!! It's a slice of surfing life here in SoCal.

Your Camera May Be Your Best Friend
As a real estate professional, and a blogger, your camera may be your best friend.
There are lots of good reasons to use a camera (preferably digital these days) and plenty of ways a camera can be a big help to you in your business, and for blogging and social media purposes.
Here are just a few - bet you can think of some more

Rural Mail Boxes - A Fact of Life for Many
I passed these rural mail boxes on the road through the mountains to the desert today and had to stop and snap a photo. There's not much in this area except mountains, brush, a two lane road and no real signs of habitation, until you pass this small dirt road and the double row of mail boxes.
It made me think - how different lifestyles can be, depending on the choices we make on where we live, and our housing. I couldn't see any homes nearby - what I could see … (26 comments)
