Work was moving along and then stopped, with no visible activity since early last year, when I first wrote about this.

Kudos are due the Carlsbad Cardiovascular Disease Foundation for the 5 K Run/Walk for Life at Seaport Village in Downtown San Diego today which was a Huge Success.

There were lots of runners and walkers, plenty of funds raised for a wonderful cause, dozens of volunteers who believe in helping, many health fair vendors, and a very special thank you to Malinda Engerer, Executive Director, Nancy Kelly, Director of Programs and Major Gifts, and Sandra Zeitzew, Non-profit Consultant, for organizing … (12 comments)

Box Canyon in La Costa, Carlsbad CA – Great Views, Dangerous to Visit

I didn’t know much about Box Canyon in the La Costa area of Carlsbad, other than enjoying the great views from the crest on both sides where homes are clustered (Sea Point Tennis Club on the South). The views across Box Canyon from both sides are beautiful, as is looking down the steep hillsides 200 feet to the water far below.

And homeowners living along the crest have fabulous views to enjoy without being encumbered by other neighbors, and the possibility of seeing … (10 comments)

Arts Alive Banner Project 2012 in Encinitas CA is Here Again
The 2012 Arts Alive Banner Project, the 13th annual, combines local artistic talent, open-air displays, and an auction of 98 banners in 2012 to raise funds for various groups in the local community.

The Arts Alive Banner Project is a very cool project where artists are recruited to paint colorful banners that are currently displayed up and down historic Route 101 (the Coast Highway) in Encinitas, Leucadia, Cardiff’s Restaurant Row, and the Seaside Market Parking lot (see the slide show below).

4th Annual Brasil Jazz Festa 2012 in Encinitas was Outstanding
We attended, with a bunch of friends, the 4th Annual Brasil Jazz Festa at the Encinitas Public Library in Encinitas today. Having been to all the prior concerts, I can tell you it’s always great fun and the music is terrific. There aren’t too many venues where you can sit within 7 – 10 feet of the artists and truly experience an intimate setting, plus some wonderful music and singing.

As in the past, the concert featured 3 groups, with a mix of musicians and vocalists, some of whom … (8 comments)

A Winter Walk Through the Meditation Gardens in Encinitas CA
I had a few minutes the other day while out previewing homes for several sets of relocating buyers and running errands and found myself in south Encinitas at the Self Realization Fellowship.
The Meditation Gardens are a wonderful place to take a few minutes to relax and step away from the world while strolling through these beautiful gardens that sit atop the ocean bluff. The peaks of the ocean area spectacular, as is the beauty within, and even in the dead of a Southern California winter, the Meditation Gardens offer incredible … (11 comments)

What IS That Bird? It’s the California Brown Pelican  One of my favorite sights when walking along the Carlsbad boardwalk, next to the ocean of course, are the pelicans flying overhead. These unusual looking birds are fascinating to watch whether on the ocean or flying overhead.

The California brown pelican, next to the seagull, is probably the most prevalent sea bird we see here along the Southern California coast. These brown pelicans are particularly prevalent at the Agua Hedionda lagoon, just north of the Encina power plant, where they tend to hang out, most likely due to great places … (5 comments)
