anacortes homes: Anacortes Architect Richard Broderick - 01/14/09 07:40 PM

I met Richard T. Broderick, (A.I.A., Architect) through our mutual interest in dogs and community service using our therapy dogs.
After I got to know Richard as a person, I became aware of his professional skills as an Architect.  Richard is a Registered Architect of over 35 years and a neighbor in Anacortes. He care about the quality of design that defines our community of Anacortes.
His belief, "I believe I offer a fresh design approach that promotes innovation and sustainability and ultimately provides a unique architectural expression in contrast with many of the routine "cookie cutter" type of new construction that has … (0 comments)

anacortes homes: Anacortes Snow Fish - 12/24/08 01:03 AM

M
Most of today's blogs are about the weather in our area.  Here are some great photos from Linda Harris, Anacortes real estate agent, showing off her Anacortes home covered in snow.
I love the fish garden which adds a lot of color in the winter and fits our seaside community.  But they even look better in the snow!

anacortes homes: Why pipe need to be insulated - 12/21/08 04:14 PM
For those of you that are in Washington state looking outside of your window frustrated with the storm...I offer these photos to remind you that someone is in worse shape that you.  Here is a garage that had a pipe in the attic space that was not insulated.

One more reason to make sure that you hire a really good home inspector.  There will be lots of leaking pipes in the next few days  If your home is vacant make sure someone checks on it!

anacortes homes: Don't Take Our Ferry Run! - 12/18/08 04:24 PM
The much loved ferry service between Anacortes and Sidney, B.C., will be eliminated under Gov. Christine Gregoire's new budget.
The Anacortes ferry to Sydney operates from early spring until the first week in January.  This year over 113,000 passengers rode this ferry run, which brought lots of tourist dollars to both Anacortes and Sydney.
The Anacortes-Sydnay ferry run is scheduled to stop at the end of next summer.  This is a huge disappointment and the  ferry run will be missed!

anacortes homes: Goodbye Enchantress - 12/17/08 12:55 PM
The Enchantress was a tugboat that was abandoned several years ago in Anacortes.  After much debate it was decided that it would be removed, and it turned out to be quite a process.
Global Diving & Salvage removed the engine block from the water last week.  Part of the keel was attached to it and was estimated that the weight could have been as high as 200 tons!  It took the larges barge-mounted crane on the West Coast to do the job!
The company's crews were working for the Port of Anacortes and the Washington State Department of Ecology.

anacortes homes: Don't forget Landscaping! - 12/08/08 11:43 PM
Does Landscaping Add Value?
Landscaping will make your home easier to sell, but how much value it actually adds to your Anacortes home varies.  What is important to realize is that prospective buyers see your home on line and then often drive by.  That means that the front always has to be kept free of weeds.  There should always be pots and blooming plants in the yard to add color and warmth.  Lawns must be fertilized, watered and kept green and mowed.
Well-manicured landscaping helps frame other elements of curb appeal. It is considered a value-added feature because it helps … (0 comments)

anacortes homes: Protect your pets! - 11/24/08 07:33 AM

Remember to protect your pets this thanksgiving.  Don't give dogs poultry bones!!!
It is always best to feed your pet a high quality pet food without table scrapes added.  Rich gravies, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie can make your dog sick so please resist the temptation!  For more information on other things that can make your dog sick click here.

anacortes homes: Life in Anacortes, WA is like Mayberry RFD - 11/23/08 01:22 AM
We all know that people are flocking to rural areas to escape traffic, crime and pollution.  In Anacortes we have what baby boomers today are looking for.
This is reflected in our market stats, but to give you an idea of how quaint our town is, I thought I would let you know that this week Anacortes Amercian has an article on the front page of the paper about a major issue that was discussed at the City Council meeting ... people that drive to fast through our neighborhoods.
This is a serious issue as it can endanger children and pets...but don't … (1 comments)

anacortes homes: Power of the Internet - 11/09/08 09:26 AM
I live in Anacortes, WA.  It is a small town on Fidalgo Island with a population of only 16,000.
Today I ran across an article in
A NEW VOICE FOR PAKISTAN
In this article about America's cup: BMW Oracle it referenced Anacortes, WA!
"BOR 90 was built and launched in Anacortes, Washington, where it underwent initial sea trials. The boat was barged to San Diego and testing resumed in early October. The crew could be here into next year while the syndicate's appeal is heard."

anacortes homes: The Canadian dollar is Going Further in the U.S. - 11/06/08 05:35 PM
The improvement in the Canadian dollar helps our Canadian neighbor take advantage of the great Anacortes real estate values.  The prices of Anacortes waterfront and Anacortes water view homes are a terrific bargain compared with the price on waterfront/water view property in the Gulf Islands.  The strenth of the Canadian dollar has more Canadians looking at Anacortes Homes and also La Conner real estate.  To read more click here.
