One of the best parts of Tampa,FL besides the weather is the annual invasion of Gasparilla. This event which goes back to 1904, when a few of the city's elite first put on pirate outfits and invaded the city, is now a huge street party and pirade which is held on different days. This year the Childrens' pirade was on the Saturday the 19th and the full pirade will be Saturday the 24 of January. The Pirade will start with the Invasion of Tampa by the famouse pirate ship as well as anyone who would like to invade along with them.

Just had someone who was moving to Tampa asking about Schools in Tampa FL. They needed to decide whether they would pursue an area (in order to get into the public school there) or if it was just easier to find a good private school and then live where they choose. One of the very important parts of moving to Tampa is to understand that Public Schools have districs. If you want your children to go to a perticular school, you must live in that District. Lets start at the beginning: Tampa means "stick of fire" and is the name given to the area by the Caloosa Indians who roamed Southern Florida before the advent of the white man. Until about 1750, the Tampa Bay area was largely ignored by Spanish explorers because the Indians were “too difficult to conquer and too stubborn to convert.” Settlement in Tampa began with the establishment of Fort Brooke in 1824.
