Precious Moments did a voluntary recall. Name of Product: Precious Moments Angel Tree Toppers Units: About 4,300 Distributor: Precious Moments Inc. of Carthage, Mo. Hazard: Undersized wiring can cause the tree topper's switch assembly to overheat and melt posing a fire hazard. Incidents/Injuries: Precious Moments has received two reported incident involving the tree topper overheating. No injuries have been reported. Description: The recalled tree toppers are 10 inch tall vinyl angels with LED lighted wings. The angels are white, gold and yellow and they are holding either a star or a set of bells. Name of Product: Hampton Bay Dehumidifiers Units: About 2,000 Importer: The Home Depot, of Atlanta, Ga. Hazard: An internal component can fail causing the dehumidifier to overheat, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. Incidents/Injuries: Home Depot has received 18 reports of the dehumidifiers catching fire. One consumer reported a burn injury to his forearm. The New York Times said: Smart Utility Meters Cause Problems. Meters that tell home owners how much power they are using hour by hour aren't making all users happy.For instance, Pacific Gas & Electric, which installed 4 million sophisticated meters at $250 a piece, has encountered hundreds of angry customers who say that the meters overstate the amount of power they have consumed. In response, the California Public Utilities Commission has agreed to investigate. PG&E blames the higher bills on a hot summer. In Connecticut, the governor has gotten involved, saying consumers shouldn't have to pay the cost of meter installation

Mortgage Bankers Association said: Mortgage applications were up 0.3 percent last week compared to the previous week on both a seasonally adjusted basis and on an unadjusted basis, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association weekly survey.The increase was in refinances, which rose 0.9 percent. As a share of mortgage activity, refinances hit 74.4 percent, the highest refinance share since April 24.The purchase index decreased 0.1 percent on an adjusted basis and declined 3.6 percent on an unadjusted basis. CNN Money said: Home building rose 8.9 percent in November to an annualized rate of 574,000, the U.S. Commerce Department announced Wednesday.The rate was still 12.4 percent below what it was in November 2008, but the increases were nationwide, with the Northeast leading the trend with housing starts rising 16.4 percent. Housing starts rose 12.3 percent in the South, 3 percent in the Midwest and 1.9 percent in the West.Analysts attributed the increase to the extension and expansion of the home buyer's tax credit. The Wall Street Journal said: Home buyers and home owners who are refinancing are increasingly enthusiastic about 15-year, fixed-rate mortgages.Originations of 15-year mortgages at Wells Fargo & Co. are up 55 percent through November compared to a year ago. At J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., 20 percent of refinances are 15-year loans, up 10 percent in 2008.One reason is that rates on 15-year fixed-rate conforming mortgages averaged 4.46 percent in early December, according to HSH Associates in Pompton Plains, N.J.

Zhu Zhu Pets, are hard to find, but is it worth it? These furry little mechanical hamsters are proving difficult to find in stores, prices for these toys have been selling on Amazon and eBay for much more than its $8 retail price.
