Why do many advertise. To make money, right?  You have to spend money to make money. But are some ads deceptive or misleading? You betcha.
What about the little giveaways or gimmicks offered when people advertise? Aren't they spending more money on top of the money that they are spending on their advertising? 
There is a very large company that does tax returns who also has a mortgage division advertising on t.v. now. If you close on a loan prior to December 31st, 2010, you will be entered into a contest. The winner will have their mortgage paid … (32 comments)

ADVERTISING – Those ads that seem too good to be true.
 

 
I have been in the mortgage business for 17 + years.  I have seen so much advertising when it came to mortgage companies and how many of the ads were misleading or just flat out lies.  Those companies advertising low rates that didn't happen.  This easily went on from 1992 to 2002. I always wondered why this wasn't regulated as strongly as it should have been.  I found out that some of these companies had 100's of complaints, yet they still operated for those 10 years. … (48 comments)

Maybe Dateline NBC should do an episode on mortgage advertising and the fine print at the bottom of the commercial. You know, the print that is small and doesn't last more than a few seconds. Yes, that fine print. I was inspired to write this because of a comment from Jeff Geoghan, who said that perhaps I should do a HBO series on "desperate loan officers." 
Are you starting to see more TV advertising since the market has slowed down?  What does this mean sometimes. It can mean that some companies need more business. And who pays for these commercials?  … (24 comments)
