Now that 2007 is nearing the end, we need to make sure that we are prepared for 2008.   Does everyone have their business plan and budgets ready for 2008?  Having a defined plan and set budget will lead us in the right direction and show where we need to concentrate our focus.
What is your marketing budget for 2008?  My marketing budget is not to exceed 10% which is right where I was in 2007.  Although I made some bad marketing choices in 07, I still stayed within by budget.  I am going to try to hold my marketing to 7.5% if possible … (12 comments)

I read so many blogs that deal with professionalism or the lack thereof.  The blogs that really amaze me are the ones that try to compare us to other professionals like doctors and lawyers.   Why in the world would we try to compare ourselves with doctors and lawyers?  While I do believe that we need to have a high level of professionalism, I don't think that the doctor/lawyer comparison is accurate.   We are required to take a 6 week course and pass a state test to get our license.  Doctors and lawyers are in school for many many years and go … (4 comments)

This is a question that has been rolling around in my head for a while.   We as realtors for the most part do not own any investment properties, somtehing like 25% do, but we often try to get others to buy investment property.   We usually know about the great deals before the public.  We should understand the investment aspect of owning income producing property.  Right now, there are numerous deals ripe for the taking but we don't seem to practice what we preach.

How many agents do you think will get out of the business in 2008?  With all of the negativity that we see from agents on a daily basis, why would they stay in business. If things are really that bad, why do it?  I for one look forward to our number of agents going down to "weed out" the weak or lazy.  Not that I want to see anyone fail, but we need to purge the system.

We had a mini business planning clinic today in Panama City.  Gene Rivers of the Rivers Team in Tallahassee was the presenter.  Every one of Gene's classes that I have attended have produced at least one AHA.  
Are you in business?   If a day goes by without a single lead, are you in business? Do you consider your entire commission check to be "your paycheck" or do you pay yourself a salary and reinvest your profits?  Are you profitable?

As most of you know that read my blogs, I am very much learning based and attend as much training as time allows.  In our area, we usually see the same faces over and over again in training sessions.  The problem that I see is that we attend training and do not implement what we have learned.  I know that it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to start, but we have to start somewhere with something to get started.

Recently, It has been painfully (or Paynefully in my case) obvious that TOO MANY agents are not able to check their email unless they are sitting in front of their computer.   Since email is typically the preferred method of disseminating information from one agent to another, why do agents, lenders, anyone in business, not have smart technology to check their email from their phone or PDA?

Recently, the communities of Panama City and Panama City Beach rallied around a young family whose life was turned upside down when their breadwinner and hero was injured in Iraq.  Cpl. Ohio State and LSU will be playing for the BCS national championship game.  What are your predicitions for the game?  Does Ohio State play a tough enough schedule in the BIG TEN?   It seems as though LSU has had some real battles in the SEC and should be ready for Ohio State.
