Today's only economic data was the release of Employee Productivity and Costs for the second quarter. It showed an annual rate of 2.2%, falling short of analysts' forecasts of a 2.5% pace. However, this was close enough to expectations that the difference is not the cause of this morning's small bond losses. It is stock optimism that is restricting gains in bonds during early trading.I would not be surprised to see additional movement in mortgage rates later today as investors settle their positions before the weekend. As anticipated, President Bush signed the Housing & Economic Recovery Act into effect today. This has huge impact on our current business, both good & bad. The good being that we may again see some increase in conforming loan limits, depending on the metro area. The bad, obviously the Down Payment Assistance programs will be eliminated, yes, ELIMINATED, effective 10-1-08 AND the minimum down payment for FHA loans is being increased from 3% to 3.5%.

Friday's bond market has opened in well in negative territory as traders erase a sizable rally in bonds yesterday. The stock markets are in positive territory after their large sell-off yesterday helped fuel the bond rally. The Dow is currently up 51 points while the Nasdaq has gained 17 points. The bond market is currently down 16/32, which will erase yesterday's late rally and prevent much of an improvement in this morning's mortgage rates.None of today's economic news did anything to help bond prices or mortgage rates. I recieved this email this morning, Ameridream and other DPA's are going to go away! These programs are great for first time home buyers and other qualified clients. I feel it is important to act on behaf of our clients to protect the programs that have been established to help good, qualified clients own a home!
