Emerson, a St. Louis-based global manufacturing and technology company, plans to open its Latin American headquarters in Sunrise, creating at least 51 new jobs, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance said Tuesday. The new jobs will have an average wage of $83,264, which is more than 200 percent of Broward County's average wage, the Alliance said.
For creating 51 jobs and retaining 25 existing jobs in Florida, Emerson could receive a total of $683,500 in state and local incentives.

On Tuesday night, Commissioner Sheila Alu urged "swift action" to address the controversy and put an end to the practice. "If a cop is violating the law, they need to lose their take-home car privileges," Alu said.
Alu said nine Sunrise officers are under investigation after the paper turned over records showing they had been speeding. A three-month Sun Sentinel investigation found almost 800 cops from a dozen agencies routinely driving 90 to 130 mph on our highways.

If city workers are sent in to mow the grass, clean the pool, board up the house or put up a fence, property owners will find the cleanup costs on their tax bill.
City commissioners unanimously approved the plan Tuesday.
