home stager: RENTAL COMPANIES - FRIEND OR FOE? LET'S BUY A CAKE WITH NO FROSTING! - 11/12/07 03:45 PM
I know there have been other posts on this topic, but recently I have had to do battle with some rental companies in my region and elsewhere to help dispel the myth that renting furniture is "Staging."  I have had "discussions" with large national companies on behalf of Stagers, sticking my neck out to straighten out what I feel is a blatant misperception being fed to the public. The misperception is that "rental companies can Stage a house."  Is furniture the only thing needed in a vacant house? Some sellers believe that is true - and this damages what we do as Stagers.
Anyone else out … (27 comments)

home stager: DO YOU GROUP NEGOTIATE? - 11/12/07 03:18 PM
Do you know how to GROUP NEGOTIATE or do you keep any great deal to yourself - hoping your "competition" will not figure out what you found?  Do you understand there is power in numbers?
When you go to stores or to wholesalers - do you ask about discounts for yourself? Most places will give Stagers a standard 10-15% discount, and maybe more if we flash our re-sale licenses.  But how many of you realize that when you are in front of a store owner, you have the "power" of negotiation on your side?  You see - it's not about only you … (2 comments)

home stager: Give a surprise Staging as a Gift to someone or a group this holiday season - 11/12/07 11:03 AM
I have been off the blog for a while - busy with kids, school, training and Staging - as many of you are.  One of my most recent projects though gave me pause because it made me realize how much people need us and how we can be such a GIFT to those around us. "Tis the Season - it's almost upon us - the "official" kick-off of the Holiday Season....
Already I have created and donated a "12-days of Christmas" wreath to a WCR Auction, helped fundraise, and have agreed to help with a Habitat for Humanity Parade of Holiday Homes.  … (7 comments)

home stager: Protect Your Identity - Some helpful Advice - 07/23/07 11:21 AM
This past week, I had some alarming news!  I DIED in 2006!  I know there are some people that may have wanted me dead a time or two (LOL) but WOW! Here's what happened . . .
I was doing a check on some erroneous data on my credit report and found that this credit card that I have not had in use since 2003 was showing a balance due and many late dings.  When I called the credit issuer, I was told at first that their records showed I had assumed payments for someone that died.  When I said, "Uh - … (7 comments)

home stager: ASP STAGERS HAVING FUN IN CHICAGO!! Sharing good times! - 07/15/07 07:42 AM

CHICAGO - CHICAGO!!  What a great town - and the location for the annual ASP Convention held at the end of June!!  We had a BLAST!
This is me and Mark Reed - another trainer with Stagedhomes.com . .  .(now you know what I would look like as either A)Mo from the 3 stooges (check out the hair) or B)as a Flapper in the 20's.  Thank goodness for the hat - the wig was pretty funny!  We took a cruise out on the Lake - saw fireworks - it was spectacular!!
We had a BLAST in the WINDY CITY . . . taking the town by storm for the … (9 comments)

home stager: ABC 20/20 PUTS NEW SPIN ON A GREAT SEGMENT - 07/15/07 04:40 AM
I got a call from an ABC Reporter from New York City who was referred to me by Chris Connelly of ABC.  Chris and I met during the filming of the 20/20 segment.  The reporter wanted to know if Home Staging today in a slower market as we are experiencing pretty much all over the U.S. - was as important as it was nearly 2 years ago when the segment was filmed.  Of course - I said - it is even MORE necessary.  She had already interviewed Barb Schwarz with www.Stagedhomes.com at length - about current trends and stats.  So even though … (0 comments)

home stager: SOLD IN ONE DAY - STAGING WORKS! - 07/15/07 04:16 AM
SOLD in 1 DAY!! Staging Works even in a tough market!
I love this business!  Even in a "down" market, houses that are presented well do sell!  We Staged a house about a week ago that was probably in its hey-day in the 80's.  The yellow-gold-brown tile on the floors and kitchen counters gave the age away of this lady that was trying hard to fit in with the younger look of today's houses.
The seller (flipper/investor) convinced himself that the 80's look would help bring a buyer - which just made our job as Stagers even more rewarding when we were able to … (0 comments)
