TEXAS WINERIES & VINEYARDS - 01/29/08 08:49 AM

TEXAS VINEYARDS & WINERIES
Believe it or not, Texas is home to 26 wineries and a wealth of independent grape growers. In 1996, the state's vineyards produced over one million gallons of wine, making Texas the fifth-largest wine producer in the nation after California, New York, Washington, and Oregon.  The rough and tumble state has become giddy with talk of full, woodsy bouquets; crisp, floral notes, and the virtues of a particular varietal is relatively new. What's not new, surprisingly, is the Texas wine industry itself.

How do you stay "almost always" positive especially during tough times? - 01/09/08 10:48 AM
How do you stay "almost always" positive especially during tough times?
The answer is simply this: Nothing lasts.  When you've been around long enough and you're really paying attention and you are able to look back on life and realize that nothing lasts, not the good or the bad, it gives you a sense of valuable perspective.
When things are good and you know nothing lasts, you are more apt to appreciate it more, celebrate the good, savor all the moments.  If you think the good is going to last forever you tend to waste the moments, put off the enjoyment, … (0 comments)

ANOTHER BEER BATTLE IN TEXAS! SHOULD SIX FLAGS AND HURRICANE HARBOR SELL BEER? - 01/06/08 05:51 PM
PAST BEER BATTLES
In 1930's Arlington prohibited wine sales within 300 feet of a church, school, hospital or day care and continued to do so for decades.  In February 2005, voters approved  sales of wine for off-premises consumption; it wasn't until that June, however, that the City Council did away with the ordinance that blocked sales.
In 2005, there was a huge debate in Mansfield over whether Big League Dreams sports complex should sell beer.  In May 2005, voters directed the Mansfield City Council to oppose the complex's beer permit application. An agreement between the city and Big League Dreams stipulates that alcohol will not be served near or … (5 comments)

A Cool Way To Heat Your Home - 01/06/08 11:19 AM
Heat pumps are not new, they've been in use for more than thirty years.  Upward-spiraling energy costs and technological breakthroughs have made heat pumps a popular, sensible alternative to conventional heating and cooling systems.
A heat pump is an air conditioner that contains a valve that lets it switch between "air conditioner" and "heater." When the valve is switched one way, the heat pump acts like an air conditioner, and when it is switched the other way it reverses the flow of Freon and acts like a heater
A geothermal heat pump extracts heat from the earth through a series of pipes … (2 comments)
