November/December...I love this time of year!

I always love this time of year because the weather is turning colder and the holidays are approaching! Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's always it gives us the opportunity to get together with friends and family, when throughout the year, we seem to busy to do so. We started out this year with my parents coming down for the kids games on Halloween and them staying to help the kids carve pumpkins.

Robert's dad and Karen came down, as they always do in November and we had a great time, as usual.

I love the holidays because it reminds me of all the good times I had with my family when I was a kid, because of tradition and for all the great times and memories we have made and continue to make with my children.

We start out decorating our home with fall leaves and flowers and pumpkins and move on to overdoing it with Christmas decorations! (Robert always teases me about have 20 boxes of decorations for Christmas and only one for every other holiday!)

Halloween is only fun because the kids love to dress up and my parents have joined us on Halloween since Reagan was a baby.

Thanksgiving is always special. When I was a kid, it always meant traveling to Stillwater, OK to be with my family there and family, from everywhere, would be there. We talked, played, road dirt bikes, went to movies and just enjoyed being with each other. Although we stopped that several years ago, Thanksgiving still means being with family, usually at my parents, aunt and uncles in Granbury, eating too much turkey, drinking too much ;), playing with ALL the animals out there and watching football.

Christmas was amazing and is still my favorite holiday. My mom made it perfect every year and still does! We always celebrated on Christmas Day and continue to do so with my kids. Christmas Day is much like Thanksgiving, but with TONS of presents! We get together, eat too much, drink too much and just have a great time!

I'm looking forward to the holidays and being cozy with my family and seeing my kids' faces light up as they dig into the mounds of presents...priceless!

Prosper began as a settlement in 1846, known for its lush soil and ideal growing conditions for cotton crops. Four years later the two settlements of Rock Hill and Richland were developed, and lived side by side until the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad came through in 1914, and forced them to merge into what is known today as "Prosper".

The optimistic name choice was not without merit, as this community of 500 residents became a market center for area farmers and their plentiful bounty of corn and cotton crops. Even then, people knew there was something special about this North Texas area, but little did they know, Prosper would become the "Diamond" of Collin County between now and 2035.

Today, Prosper has come into its own with a population of approximatley 7,116; adding a resident per day and projecting a future population of 85,000 by year 2035. Dallas police ticketed 39 drivers in 3 years for not speaking English...

How to Say, "You're Being Ticketed for Not Speaking English" in Spanish?

As a native Texas, I've heard my fair share on the subject, but this is unreal! I, personally learned the Spanish language to help educate those that want to learn English, and by my experience, most Spanish speaking individuals who live in the US, truly want to learn the language AND I love to travel to Mexico! ;)! I will try my hardest, not to get in a war of words based on my beliefs on the subject and hard working, law abiding hispanic citizens.

That being said...here it goes...

"Dallas police wrongly ticketed at least 39 drivers for not speaking English over the last three years, Police Chief David Kunkle announced Friday while promising to investigate all officers involved in the cases for dereliction of duty.

"The case that led to the discovery of all the others occurred Oct. 2, when Ernestina Mondragon was stopped for making an illegal U-turn in the White Rock area. Rookie Officer Gary Bromley cited Mondragon for three violations: disregarding a traffic control device, failure to present a driver's license and "non-English speaking driver."

Attorney Domingo Garcia said he has been hired to represent the Mondragon family. "The issue has nothing to do with whether people should learn English or not. I believe they should," Garcia said. "It's about not following the law and issuing citations against a law that doesn't exist, against a fairly voiceless and helpless population." Beyond potential legal problems, some said the tickets send a troubling message to Hispanics.

"It's the principle of the matter that there are police officers out there representing our city who actually think that it's a crime not to speak English," said Brenda Reyes, a political consultant and member of the League of United Latin American Citizens.

Kunkle, who apologized repeatedly, said he recognized the incidents probably would damage the department's relationship with the Hispanic community.

"When we deal with crime victims ... our interest is not their immigration status," Kunkle said. "It's not something that we concern ourselves about. We want to serve all people."

MY WHIRLWIND TRIP TO NEW YORK!

Last weekend my husband and I had a "whirlwind" of a trip to New York! My husband was there on business all week and flew me up for the weekend. I arrived in White Plains, NY at 10:00 on Friday night and we went straight to Monster B's bar in Connecticut and had a blast! The guys loved my southern accent! After getting back to the hotel and sleeping only 4 hours, we headed to New York City and "conquered it" in one day!

We ate eaten a New York bagel, a "slice of pie", saw Time Square, during the day AND night, Ground Zero, Waldolf Astoria, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Statue of Liberty, rode the subway, had a picture taken with the Naked Cowboy, went to the Coach, Nike and Louis Vuitton, Empire State Building, McSorley's (the oldest bar in New York) and Little Italy. I bet we walked 10 miles!!!

Went back to the hotel around 1am, got up at 5 and hopped on a plane back the Dallas at 7am.

What a great (and busy) day in New York City! It was a blast and New York was great, but I am still very proud to live in TEXAS!!!

OMG...I AM GOING TO BE A SUBSTITUTE TEACHER IN PROSPER ISD

God help me...I am going to be a substitute teacher! I decided once my kids were ALL in school, which is this year, due to my baby girl starting kindergarten, I would try out being a substitute, as well as a Realtor. What was I thinking??? ;)

I am actually excited about getting my foot in the door and getting through the first day (and a little nervous!)

I am going to sub at all of the Prosper ISD schools. I have already accepted 2 elementary schools substitute teaching jobs and I am working tomorrow at the new $113.5 million, 590,000-square-foot enormous Prosper High School, complete with a medical tech lab, a restaurant-worthy kitchen, a greenhouse, a broadcast studio and, of course, an indoor football practice facility... nothing but the best for the Prosper kids!

It sounds like a lot of fun and I've always been told I would be good at teaching, and judging by the subs that I had when I was a kid, you don't really seem to have to be that qualified. Matter of a fact, if I do become a flustered, I will just do what my subs did and put in a movie and read the Star Telegram in the back of the room. LOL! Just kidding!! ;)I believe here, in the Prosper ISD, things will be quite different. After all, I have 3 kids in the school system and I know it is a great place to learn!

Number of places nationwide with "liberty" in their name. The most populous one is Liberty, Missouri (26,232). Iowa has more of these places than any other state: four (Libertyville, New Liberty, North Liberty and West Liberty).

Eleven places have "independence" in their name. The most populous of these is Independence, Missouri, with 113,288 residents.

As with many holidays, the 4^th of July celebration includes food, drink and the realization of how fortunate we are as a nation.

More than 66 million

Number of Americans who said they have taken part in a barbecue during the previous year. It's probably safe to assume a large number of these events took place on the Fourth.

Although we do not have a fixed menu for the celebration of the Fourth, you can almost count on traditional favorites such as hamburgers and hot dogs, chicken, ribs, garden salads, potato salad, chips and watermelon. Following is a summary of where these foods come from:

There's a 1-in-6 chance the beef on your backyard grill came from Texas. The Lone Star State is the leader in the production of cattle and calves.
The chicken on your barbecue grill probably came from one of the top broiler-producing states: Georgia, Arkansas, Alabama, North Carolina and Mississippi.
The lettuce in your salad or on your hamburger probably was grown in California, which accounts for nearly three-quarters of USA lettuce production.
Fresh tomatoes in your salad most likely came from Florida or California, which, combined, produced more than two-thirds of U.S. tomatoes. The ketchup on your hamburger or hot dog probably came from California, which accounted for 95 percent of processed tomato production last year.
As to potato salad or potato chips or fries, Idaho and Washington produces about one-half of the nation's spuds.
For dessert, six states - California, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Arizona and Indiana - combined to produce about 80 percent of watermelons last year.

State Park Lakes & Beaches

Number of visits in a recent year to our national parks - a particularly scenic locale for a July 4^th picnic. There were 766 million visits in a recent year to another popular picnic venue - state parks or recreation areas. Those in California (80 million), Ohio (59 million), New York (56 million), Washington (48 million) and Illinois (44 million) recorded the highest number of visits.

You may or may not be able to picnic there, but a visit to a national historical site is a particularly fitting way to celebrate our nation's heritage. In a recent year, about 72 million people flocked to national historical sites and 24 million to national monuments.

8th Annual Frisco, TX Freedom Fest July 4, 2009---Happy Independence Day!

The City of Frisco's 8th Annual Frisco Freedom Fest happens this year on Saturday, July 4 beginning at 4 p.m. We are located at the southeast and northeast corners of the Dallas North Tollway and Main Street in the heart of Frisco. All your family favorites are back this year. Admission to Party in the Plaza activities are free including the Community Stage with homegrown soloists, bands and dancers.

The Children's Expo will feature jump houses, two Euro bungee rides, face painting, strolling entertainers, a 25 foot rock wall, games and a chance to write a letter to U.S. troops. The Hometown Heroes Exhibit showcases the men and women of our Frisco Police and Fire Departments along with all the equipment they use to help keep our community safe.

Come hungry! The Taste of Frisco also returns featuring food from local restaurants with a variety of choices to satisfy your taste buds.

The night is topped off with the Fireworks Extravaganza. No Independence Day is complete without an amazing show of color in the night sky. Frisco's fireworks display is the biggest in North Texas. The extravaganza is FREE and viewable from the area around Pizza Hut Park & Simpson Plaza at City Hall. Fireworks show should began around 9:40.

I had a show this weekend for DahlHouse Designs at Second Monday Trade Days in Bowie, and when I do that show, I always stay with my friend Lisa, at her dad's ranch, Larry Mahan. For those of you who don't know the name, Larry is a legendary rodeo cowboy, who now has a clothing line of western wear and appears occasionally as a television commentator. Still to this day, just a good ole boy!

He's redecorating this particiular house on the ranch, himself, and doing a great job I might add, and this time while I was out there, I saw a sign he had just bought on his front porch that I loved and had to share! (And yes, some really do talk like this down here! ;)

QUICK TIP #1: Communicate with your lender

Many people lose their homes because they are too ashamed to act, or they go into denial about the seriousness of the problem. To prevent foreclosure, be decisive and explore all solutions. Contact your lender at the number on your statement at the first sign of trouble-even if you have not missed a payment but you think you might have to in future. Your lender will make notes about your phone call in your account file. Reputable lenders and loan servicers should view your contact as an indication that you are committed to fixing the problem rather than avoiding it. The lender may begin discussing possible solutions to your payment problem.

If you have already missed a payment and have not contacted the lender yet, do so immediately. Do not ignore letters or calls from the lender! The longer you wait to act, the fewer options you will have.

QUICK TIP #2: Use your assets

Do you have assets-a second car, jewelry, a whole life insurance policy-that you can sell for cash to help reinstate your loan? Can anyone in your household get an extra job to bring in additional income? Even if these efforts don't significantly increase your available cash or your income, they demonstrate to your lender that you are willing to make sacrifices to keep your home. If you can predict you'll have serious, irresolvable payment problems in the foreseeable future that could lead to foreclosure, consider selling your home before you go into default.

QUICK TIP #3: Dos and don'ts for homeowners facing foreclosure

Don't:

Run from the problem
Sign anything that you do not fully understand.
Deed your property over to anyone. Signing your home over to someone else does not relieve you of your mortgage obligation.
Let someone assume the loan without the lender's permission and without their formally releasing you from liability for the mortgage.
Move out of your house because someone promises to make the mortgage payments for you.

Do:

Call your lender, real estate professional or property management company
Get financial counseling
Be suspicious of anyone who contacts you with a loan or service they promise will solve your money troubles and save your home.
Avoid high-pressure lenders, or those who encourage you to pay an upfront fee for any service or loan, borrow more than the value of the home, or take on a loan without considering your ability to make the payments.
Get all terms and promises in writing.
Be on the lookout for terms that change or are not disclosed at the beginning of the loan process.
Avoid any refinancing loan with exorbitant fees, a stiff prepayment penalty, an excessively high interest rate, or a balloon payment due. (If you're not sure whether the loan you're being offered includes any of these abusive terms, have someone you trust review them for you.)

Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food.
Plastic bags don't biodegrade, they photodegrade-breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest.
As part of Clean Up Australia Day, in one day nearly 500,000 plastic bags were collected.
Windblown plastic bags are so prevalent in Africa that a cottage industry has sprung up harvesting bags and using them to weave hats, and even bags. According to the BBC, one group harvests 30,000 per month.
Plastic bags are among the 12 items of debris most often found in coastal cleanups, according to the nonprofit Center for Marine Conservation.
