social media advisors: What Inspires Your Blog Content? - 05/22/12 11:04 AM
Coming up with ideas for blog content on a regular basis can be rather difficult for many people. It’s one of the biggest objections I hear whenever I speak on blogging. How do you think up new stuff to write about that isn’t just a repeat of something you have already done? During this month long challenge of 21 blog posts in 21 business days, I’ve found myself at times even pondering what to write on next. But, what I have come to the conclusion is that by using one of the four options below to inspire content for your blog, you should

social media advisors: The Art of Uni-Tasking - 04/20/12 08:59 AM
This past week I was in Atlanta, GA for a real estate tech conference where I got the honor of hearing my friend Matthew Shadbolt deliver a very powerful presentation on how social media is ruining us. He shared about the addictions people are forming to the instant gratification and recognition they receive on social networks like Twitter & Facebook. The mentions, likes & comments we receive release a level of oxytocin that makes us feel better. Once a person starts to receive some, it becomes even more addicting. It gets to the point where people spend hours at a time

social media advisors: When Promotion Turns To Prostitution - 02/23/12 07:20 PM
Ines Hegedus-Garcia - @ines @jb140 there's a fine line bet prostituting your posts & getting quality readership - @chris_smth @phxreguy @tcar @jimmymackin This was a tweet I received this morning from my friend Ines in reply to a conversation we were having this morning on Twitter about a recent post on HubSpot about 25 Marketing Stats for 2012. The post to me seemed a little thin on content provided as it was basically just a list of statistics. That however is not the purpose of this post. The conversation started this morning when Chris, Jimmy, Jay, & Todd were discussing the

social media advisors: Now you really need to get into Google Plus - 01/13/12 01:19 PM
Social Search went live this morning on Google. No, not Google Plus – but GOOGLE, the mothership of the internet. They’ve been hinting that social has been influencing the Google algorithm for a while and as of today there’s no more hinting. It’s in your face. Bamm! Here’s how a search for an Irish Pub in NY looks to me. Remember, I’m in San Francisco. You can see there’s 30 of my friends that have recommendations for me. Google has placed that right at the top! I didn’t know I even had 30 friends in NYC, let alone personal recommendations

social media advisors: As 2012 Begins, Do You Still Think Twitter Is Stupid - 01/10/12 02:41 PM
This past year I've had the honor of traveling the country as a social media speaker sharing on all types of social media topics like using Facebook for business, how to blog, video basics, and many other topics. One of the top statements that I've heard this past year while traveling is some variation of this: "Twitter is stupid, I don't get it" which normally leads into a discussion on how Twitter can be used to help your business. Is Twitter Stupid or A Great Source of Traffic? One of the things I usually try to point out to people is

social media advisors: Creating Better Videos- Audio - 11/08/11 06:39 PM
This is part three in my series on creating better videos. In our first segment we covered indoor shots and how to keep the light balanced. Then, we discussed why using a tripod is crucial to the quality of your video. For today's segment, we are going to discuss audio. Good videos are made up of two main components. The images on the screen and the sound that accompanies it. If one of these parts is lacking or missing, the quality of your video goes down. While you may think you need to spend several hundreds of dollars on a

social media advisors: Creating Better Videos- Steadying Your Shot - 11/07/11 06:51 PM
The other day I started a series of posts on creating better videos. The series came from some recent presentations I have given as a social media speaker on using video more effectively in your online marketing strategy. The first post dealt with picking the right angles for your indoor shots. Today we are going to tackle another one of the issues I see in too many videos. The fact that you feel like you are riding a roller coaster throughout the entire video due to the shakiness. If you wonder what I am talking about, here's an example from one

social media advisors: Creating Better Real Estate Videos- The Indoor Shot - 11/03/11 10:33 PM
Wow! What a crazy month it has been here for me. Over the past few weeks I traveled several thousand miles to share as a social media speaker at many events around the country. One of the more popular presentations I have done recently has been on video in real estate. In that video I share several video demonstrations on various tools & tips. Things like the importance of using an external microphone, using tripods, etc. I think these video tips are fairly important and could be useful to others, so I will be sharing these short video examples and

social media advisors: How Long Tail SEO Can Build Your Business Online - 09/20/11 11:33 AM
Long Tail keywords are so important to your online business and how it is found in the search engines. If your business has been struggling to be found online, this may be something you want to look into. While you may think that you need to be page one for your main business terms, what you are missing is that it is normally much more difficult to rank at the top of the rankings for these high competition keywords. However, if you focus on long tail keywords in your site, you will find yourself having a much easier time getting

social media advisors: Using Automatic Sync Programs to Post Across Multiple Social Networks - 08/31/11 10:37 AM
As many of you probably know, in addition to presenting at conferences as a social media speaker, that I also do a good amount of social media consulting with individuals and small businesses. As we begin discussing how to use Facebook for business, the ins and outs of Twitter, how YouTube can grow their business, and several other platforms, I almost always get asked the question of how can they automate this content so that they can write it once and have it syndicated to all platforms. I understand the thought that by using a syndicator, it will spread your message

social media advisors: 3 Ways to Tick Off Your Facebook Fans - 07/18/11 02:15 PM
One of the top questions I always receive when I am presenting as a social media speaker, is how to get more "likes" to your Facebook page. In fact, over the past few weeks I have seen many blog posts with ideas on how you can do this. As I was reading through more and more blogs addressing this topic, the more frustrated I became by some really bad advice from these bloggers. Joining Facebook like groups where if I like your page you will like mine? Commenting on popular pages as your business with a link back to your page?

social media advisors: The ROI of Social Media is Your Business Will Exist in 5 Years - 07/02/11 10:31 AM
I just finished watching the 2011 version of Social Media Revolution from Socialnomics. As usual, they have put together a good visual representation of where social media is right now. They shared some good stats as they normally do. Things like, “If Facebook were a country, it would be the 3rd largest” “eReaders have surpassed traditional book sales,” and “1 in 5 couples meet online.” I enjoyed the stats & the choice of music to go along with years version. It was very well done. Over the past few days I’ve watched as some of my friends have shared their thoughts

social media advisors: Is Social Media Dying? Google Says No! - 05/28/11 11:07 PM
{EAV_BLOG_VER:2b762beae86b955c} I am constantly traveling around the country as a social media speaker, I get asked over and over if social media is just a fad that will die any moment. Personally, I don't see this happening at any time soon, but while at a recent event in Las Vegas, I had the opportunity to sit in on a presentation by Sam Sebastian of Google. This presentation was probably one of the most informative presentations I've heard in a long time and I will definitely be sharing more information from it over the next few months. During his presentation, Sam shared

social media advisors: Is Your Technology On The Bleeding Edge? - 04/19/11 06:04 PM
This post is something that I have debated writing for several weeks now. I've had the topic in my mind but have yet to place it into written words. Over the past two months I have been rather busy traveling to events to share as a social media speaker. During these events there have been debates on whether old school sales or new technology is the way to go. There have been discussions on how to become a trusted agent with Chris Brogan. The importance of QR codes has been brought to full attention by Jeff Turner and also debated here.

social media advisors: Google Says Goodbye to Content Farms - 02/28/11 10:45 AM
Over the past two weeks Google has really been making big news and cleaning up their search results. First we heard all about the debacle of J.C. Penney from the NY Times for not playing well online and using too many black hat SEO techniques to even list. Some of the topics that they used to rank #1 on now are not even found in the first ten pages of search content. Clearly, Google will not tolerate people trying to cheat the system and has no problem acting with authority they possess when needed. New Social Search Results Then last week

social media advisors: Social Search Becomes Even More Important To Search Engine Rankings - 02/23/11 11:55 AM
The other day Google started to roll out some new features in it's Social Search rankings. The use of social search isn't a new feature, it has been around for a while and has been a part of your searches. If you had not noticed them in the past, they were usually showing up in your searches towards the bottom of the first page. You would notice that the results were of those you had connected to on social media networks like YouTube, Twitter, etc. According to Search Engine Land, Google's new roll out will take your connections via social

social media advisors: Building Your Relationships to Build Your Business - 02/14/11 02:02 PM
Today like most days has been quite busy with email inquiries, prospective phone calls and a touch of social media madness. To be honest, the past few weeks at 210 have been quite busy as I have been deep in the canyons of WordPress working on Custom sites for many customers. But, as my clients know, I am pretty meticulous at returning all phone and email contacts within 24 hours of receiving them. While this is a blessing to my clients to always receive such prompt attention it is also a detriment to my health at times as I will

social media advisors: Mapping Consumer Actions- Do You Know What They Do On Your Site? - 02/12/11 10:29 AM
I must start this post by stating that I am a complete statistics junkie. I love studying my Analytics in Google and trying to figure out the patterns of my visitors. I can get lost for hours dissecting my data and enjoying every second of learning more about my consumers and what they want, what patterns they follow, etc. I recently read through a presentation that Jay Thompson gave on "Conversion Optmization For Your WordPress Blog." In that post he shared a bunch of links to different ways to monitor how people are using your site. There were a

social media advisors: Making a Splash in Social Media - 01/21/11 12:40 PM
Reddit seems to have things on track. In 2010 they grew by 230% according to Mashable. Here's a short video from Alexis Sohanian of Reddit. He shares some great advice how they used their platform to make a major "splash" in social media. Enjoy! Sometimes we try to over complicate things, and act all too serious in our social media marketing instead of allowing the community to drive the direction and take ownership. Reddit gave this a try & it seems to be working very well for them. Originally Posted at: 210 Consulting- Social Media Advisors

social media advisors: 4 Reasons You Need an About.Me Page - 01/20/11 01:33 PM
The other day Mashable broke the news of a new start-up company About.me being bought by AOL after only four days of going live. Since AOL bought this company, I figured there had to be some sort of value in what it offered. So, I headed over to About.me and began setting up my profile. At first I thought this was just another one of the cheesy services where you put in a few links to your stuff and added a picture and you were done. My biggest issue with all these type of sites including this one is that I
