It is best to get pre-qualified to buy a house before starting a serious search.  However, most people have a general idea of what they can afford.   It is a good idea to talk with a lender to get information on specific offers, but here is a guideline to help determine how much your monthly payment will be.  This is assuming a 6% interest rate for 30 year loan.

New Hotel in Athens - 01/20/09 03:37 PM
Construction has started on Hotel Indigo on College Avenue in Athens.  It will be a "green" boutique hotel.  There is a model room available for potential guests to view.    
This hotel is located near the Lyndon House Arts Center and about 3 blocks to downtown Athens.  The Hotel Indigo will be LEED Gold certified, the highest standard in environmentally sustainable construction.

Check out a neighborhoods "walk-ability" - 01/20/09 02:35 PM
 

In October, 2008, I walked with 3 other RE/MAX agents in the Breast Cancer 3-Day.   The walk was 60 miles over 3 days and we walked in areas that were not really walker friendly, such as on the side of Peachtree Industrial Road in Duluth (with no sidewalks) and on Peachtree Street to downtown Atlanta, which was very nice. 
I've found a website that allows you to enter an address and get lots of information about the area. It's www.walkscore.com  I entered my home address and got a walk score of 0.  That's true if you're looking for a store but … (0 comments)

We seem to get a lot of attention here - no wonder, Athens is a great place to live!  The Wall Street Journal recently published an article about Athens being good for retirees.  We see this all the time, people moving from Florida, Tennessee, California and many other areas.  Many times they have researched the "best places to retire" lists and settle in Athens.   See a list of articles recently published about Athens.
