Well I remember the days that I use to hear about from my grandparents, "we use to walk up hill both ways to school", "a dime would take me and my date to the movies and we had money left over for popcorn and drinks"...I think we have all heard and probably remember when things were a little less expensive and the almighty dollar went a little further.  I also remember one of my grandmother's worked as a Postmaster at the post office next to their home and it was rather unusual that the woman was working.  That provided my grandparents with a "better than average" income for those times and it was still tough to get by.  My other grandparents didn't have that luxury.  My grandfather did what seem to be the normal deal back then, he went to work, came home and worked the garden till the sun went down and came in, went to bed, and started it all over the next day.  Meanwhile, my grandmother would cook our food, clean our clothes, clean the house, help us with our school work, and always make sure that on Sunday morning, we were clean and well dressed and we had better be to church on time.

Does this sound like today??  Well, not at my home.  I do most of the cooking, while my wife laughs and says she can't cook, "I will burn a pop tart" is what I get back from her.  We both split the washing of the clothes ritual and neither of us like to do it, but it has to be done.  She and I both clean the house and I don't have a garden in the yard to work in.  With no children yet, we don't help with the studies, but I'm sure we would both do that as well.  My wife puts in just as many and even sometimes more hours of work each week as I do.

Life changes, and so do we.  The main reason I am bringing up these things we have all heard throughout our lives is to have a little trip down memory lane and also realize that the way we purchase homes, from what we want in our homes, to how we want it to look so that it reflects our personal style, to the type of area we want our families to live in, to the quality of schools for our children, to what the area offers as far as activities to our families, to how far is my comute to work, and on and on, these things are what have changed and will continue to change the way we buy homes.
