Southern Maine Real Estate market receives positive review - 03/24/11 10:58 AM
Inman News recently published a special report on 10 Real Estate markets to watch in 2011.  The Portland south-Biddeford market was ranked number 4 in their national survey with many good indicators.  Among the reasons cited were the unemployment rate of 5.9%, well below the national rate of 9.1%, and better than average forcasted job growth.
In addition, the forclosure activity rate in the area is 1 out of 150 properties, which compares favorably with the national rate of 1 in 45 properties.  Another positive indicator for the area was the jump in Median Sales price of 8.3% comparing 4th Quarter … (0 comments)

Renting vs Buying in York County Maine - 03/07/11 11:57 AM
I read an interesting article on the above topic and they referenced the Trulia Real Estate site's quarterly Index on Renting vs Buying.   Trulia uses a formula where you take the average rent for an area, multiply times 12 months and than further multiply by 15.  If that resulting number is less than the Median price of a home in the same area, then one would be better off renting.  If that value is greater than the median price of a home, then one would be better off buying.
