Should I list my Dutchess County house now or wait until spring? - 10/27/08 05:35 AM
Should I list my Dutchess County house now or wait until spring? This is a question many agents in Dutchess County will hear. Such a question is understandable because: The winter season is very real in this area, so a homeowner might have to keep walkway clean by shoveling snow. Don't want to have the snow or salt track into the house. Because of the holidays. Because of the myth that houses won't sell in the winter time. I can certainly understand your point of view however here are a few points you might want to consider. The normal tendency is for (16 comments)

Existing home sales up 5.5 percent nationwide but not in Dutchess County Okay so this morning you turned on your favorite TV station or scanned the headlines in your Google reader and were happy to here that existing home sales were up 5.5 percent as reported by NAR. This is a great example to show that real estate is truly local. This increase was not nationwide. On further examination, a large part of this increase was because of foreclosures and short sales in States such as California and Florida. So in a nutshell, here is the breakdown by regions In the Northeast sales (9 comments)

Saturday night in Rhinebeck with my boys - 10/18/08 10:24 PM
This morning I made a reservation for dinner at the restaurant at the Rhinecliff Hotel. Let me back up a bit; for our 25th wedding anniversary in 2006 our children gave us a gift certificate to this restaurant. The opening of the hotel had been delayed and today was the first time since it opened that we could make it. The trip to the restaurant should have been rather short however there was a lot going on in Rhinebeck this weekend. The largest event was the Sheep and Wool Festival at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. I had a couple of routes I could have (26 comments)

It Is A Bear Market, So where Did the Bull Go? - 10/13/08 09:02 PM
Okay, the last few weeks have for many of us put our nerves on edge. Today for the first time I met with my financial adviser but did not make a change to my portfolio. I am just going to ride it out. I couldn't believe that today the market also went in a positive direction. You could say the gains made some giddy. It could be short lived but taking it one day at a time is the only thing that can be done. I know there are many stressed out people out there so here is my poor attempt at (17 comments)

Most of the homes on the market falls between the 100's-400's range so there are many buying opportunities. With such high inventory level I will give Hyde Park sellers the same advice I have given to other sellers, price right, stage and most of all provide access. The existing properties ranged from $ 9000- $ 3,200,000

Dancing on the roof, you must be joking! - 10/03/08 11:45 PM
Tonight I attended a performance at the Frank Gehry designed Richard B. Fisher Center For The Performing Arts at Bard College. To tell you the truth I was rather skeptical when I was told the dancing would be done on the roof. Now when you take a look at the roof you will see just what I mean.
To me this looked like it would be sucidal however by the time the performance came to an end I had changed my mind, yes I can admit it, I really enjoyed it especially when the dancers did a piece which reminded me (16 comments)
Red Hook NY Real Estate Market Report September 2008 - 10/03/08 02:18 PM
(edit/delete) With less than 3 months until the end of the year Red Hook sellers have much to ponder. At this moment there are 79 homes available for sale in the town, and 5 in the village. In 2007 63 homes sold in the town and 3 in the village. To date only 37 homes have sold, therefore to match last year's numbers 29 homes would have to be sold in less than 3 months. Even if this was achieved there would still be a year's worth of inventory left over. I won't kid you, this has been a challenging year for many. Who (3 comments)
