I had just gotten back from a lovely trip on a glass bottom boat and sat down to enjoy some jerk chicken when this guy appeared on the beach. I thought it made a great shot so I scrambled to find my camera to get a shot before he galloped away.

Clermont State Historic Site - Free Lecture Series Starts October 3rd - 09/29/09 10:03 PM
Clermont is, by far, my favorite historic site in the Hudson Valley.  It sits right along the Hudson River so when I visit I have a wonderful view of the river and the Catskill Mountains.
This was the home of Robert Livingston who with Robert Fulton was instrumental in the development of the commercial steamboat industry.  It is therefore appropriate that, this being the Quadricentennial celebration of Henry Hudson's trip up the Hudson River, there would be special events held at Clermont State Historic Site to mark the occasion.

This year real estate has been a challenge for some homeowners who had hoped to sell their home.  The fact is, some price ranges remain sluggish.
I thought this would be a great time to see how the top of the market has done so far.  In this report I will be addressing only properties over a million dollars.  This report will cover January - September 2009.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Woodstock Film Festival which was Co-founded by Meira Blansteen.
The event is a favorite of both film and music lovers, and everyone appreciate the causal atmosphere.

The Walkway over the Hudson - Grand Opening this Weekend - 09/27/09 11:07 PM
Just a few days remaining before the grand opening of the walkway over the Hudson River.  With the festivity will come traffic problems, so the organizers have put in place plans to alleviate some of the issues; click here for information on transportation and parking.
There will be many activities but at 3 pm on Saturday October 3rd the walkway will be open to the general public.
The  walkway over the Hudson River I know will be well used and just in time to enjoy the wonderful fall foliage that is expected on the banks of the Hudson River.

The Bronck Museum: an accidental discovery - 09/27/09 10:23 PM
Earlier this year, after visiting Cedar Grove, my husband and I decided to take a trip up Route 9W.  At first I protested because I did not think it was going to be very scenic.  We got as far as the Coxsackie correctional facility and I was insisting we turn around but just then an unsual barn caught my attention.  Later I found out it was probably the oldest multisided barn in New York.

I recently posted pictures of the Olana historic site and the Rip Van Winkle bridge as seen from Olana.  The Rip Van Winkle bridge connects Colombia County to Greene County.  As you exit the bridge on the Greene County side you are in the town of Catskill and here you will find Cedar Grove, the Thomas Cole Historical Site.
Who was Thomas Cole?

Speechless Sunday - You never know what you will find on a Railroad Track - 09/27/09 12:11 PM

This is a reminder of a terrible travel experience.  A 4  hour plane ride turned into an entire day,  Stuck at the airport at midnight.  Next day I was so tired I got on a train going in the opposite direction,  Waiting a couple hours to get the right train.  Yes my stress level was high; so to calm down I took out a camera and this was one of my subject.  It was finally good to get home and get some sleep.

On a trip to Williamstown MA to visit the Clark Museum I passed through very beautiful countryside.  Can't believe I was able to capture these two love birds on the fence.  If I had the time I would love to hang out in a place like that; what an awesome view of valley and Mountain.

DCCAP a great resource in Dutchess County NY - 09/20/09 11:15 PM
Now that the summer is coming to an end and the winter season is just around the corner I couldn't help thinking about the additional challenges many will face.
DCCAP - Dutchess County Community Action Partnership is an organization which extends a helping hand.  Because of the economic situation many had to face this year, services such as the food pantry operated by this organization was over taxed however it was refreshing to see many community groups coming together to hold food drives to make sure that these pantries were restocked.

On Wednesday I posted pictures of Olana.  This shot was taken at Olana looking down at the Rip Van Winkle Bridge.
The Rip Van Winkle Bridge connects Columbia County NY with Greene County NY.  The Rip Van Winkle crosses the Hudson River.

Ms. First time buyer you spent the last several months looking at homes, actually you pretty much went through the entire inventory within your price range; foreclosures, single family homes, and townhouses yet you never pulled the trigger.
The $8000 tax credit  for first time buyers was something you hoped to get; yes who doesn't like free money.  News flash for you , it is now mid September and based on how long it is taking to close on a home I would say you are right on the edge.

More homes sold than last year same time as well as last month.  There were 26 more sales than last month. Both median and Average prices were up over last month, as can be seen in the graph.
 Breakdown of the numbers for single family Detached
Median Selling Price - $ 285,900 a decrease of 9.8% from August 2008 
Average Selling Price - $ 336,638 a decrease of  6.6% from August 2008
Closed sales - 165 an increase of 24.1% from August 2008

I amaze myself;  with a camera I can get rather close to all these critters.  The true is I won't touch most things that move.  Okay I use to love going to the zoo because I could look at animals behind bars, so  getting close with the camera is a big improvement.

For Sale By Owner You had better be concern about safety - 09/06/09 11:52 PM
Yesterday I received a call from a man who sounded like a for sale by owner; he wanted to give me additional information regarding showing his house later that day.  The problem with this call was I did not make an appointment to see his home and when I told him I did not, he did not believe me.  Anyway, I was not able to continue the conversation at that point because I was on an appointment.

The Red Hook Country Inn in Red Hook NY - 09/06/09 09:17 PM
The Red Hook Country Inn is located, as the name implies, in the town of Red Hook in Dutchess County NY.
I recently sat down to tea with Pat Holden who co-owns the Inn with her husband Chef Nabil Ayoub.  Pat wanted to share some of the history of the Inn as it was passed on to her.
The building was constructed in 1841 as the home of the town's doctor.  This home was located across from the lawyer, banker and the bank; you could say this was the It location.
