 Speechless Sunday-Too close for comfort
Although I am fascinated by trains having one pass directly over my head is just too close for comfort.  This actually happened to me a couple years ago.
I had a land parcel listed in the town of Amenia which is located in the north eastern area of Dutchess County.  The property was located just after that railroad bridge shown in the picture;  and one day I was on my way to meet my client at the at the site when as soon as I was under the bridge the Metro North  Harlem Line train passed overhead.

Rhinebeck is a town with with history - 10/30/10 11:57 PM

Rhinebeck is a town with with history
Some weeks ago I listed a stone house built in 1706 in the town of Rhinebeck.  if you travel through Rhinebeck NY you will  also find other old homes with rich history.
The house below is part of the walking tour in the Village of Rhinebeck.  It was the home of General Richard Montgomery who was put in charge of the Northern forces in 1775.

Speechless Sunday-Unusual red cabbage flower - 10/24/10 08:44 PM
Speechless Sunday-Unusual red cabbage flower

I am going to make a guess that very few of you have ever seen a flower like this from a red cabbage. I suspect this is what you would call an edible flower which leads to my question; how many of you would be willing to to give it a try?

Ginger ice-cream at Sundae School - 10/23/10 11:56 PM

Ginger ice-cream at Sundae School
I was looking at my photos, when I ran across this one and  I  immediately started thinking of ginger ice-cream.  Okay when I am on vacation I am always on the lookout for rum raisin ice-cream.   I don't have it often, but most of the ones on the market don't make the cut so I am always searching.
This place is Sundae School in  Harwich on the Cape.  As you can tell from the picture it is a popular ice-cream spot for vacationers. I was hoping to get my rum raisin but that particular day they … (13 comments)

Did You Know That "Fuzz" Can Kill You? - 10/22/10 08:10 AM
We all use dyers but if not maintained properly could become a hazard. Yes fuzz can kill you.  See how Jackie Connelly-Fornuff drive this point home.

Flatiron Restaurant A Gem In The Village of Red Hook NY - 10/21/10 04:54 PM
Flatiron restaurant is located right in the heart of the village of Red Hook NY at the intersection of Market Street and Broadway, the location of what was once the only traffic light in town.
Location is extremely important for any business and in the case of Flatiron the location is very visible.  The restaurant is the conception of chef Craig Stafford and his wife Jessica Stingo; both gained culinary experience from their days in the restaurant business in New York City.  They decided on relocating to the bucolic Mid Hudson Valley and opened Flatiron in 2008.
Why Flatiron?  I suppose, because they originally worked in the Flatiron … (15 comments)

Wordless Wednesday-Sunflower - 10/21/10 01:23 AM

A sunflower can really bring some sunshine into your day.  The sunflower is more than just a pretty flower, it is used in many ways. .    If you are into health food you probably have had sunflower seeds.  Another common product of the sunflower is the sunflower oil.

What Do You Think When When You See A Sink? - 10/20/10 03:44 PM
Karen Kruschka passed on some words of wisdom for both agents and sellers. Karen has over 34 years in the real estate industry so you know she has seen a lot.
In this post I love her explanation of what you could tell about a house by an observation of the sink.

Via Karen Kruschka - Prince William, Fairfax ,Stafford County VA Real Estate Service (RE/MAX Olympic Realty):
Most people, myself included, form an opinion about a home as soon as we pull up in front. I have to be careful I don't convey mine to my client. After all, over … (7 comments)

Speechless Sunday-Let the music play - 10/17/10 09:52 PM

The other day I was having breakfast with my husband in a diner when I suddenly had the impulse to pop a quarter into the juke box and let the music play.  Mark you, I have never used one of these machines before.
My husband immediately sensed that one of my impulsive moments was about to become reality, and emphatically said no to this.
I did not give up. Immediately,  I asked wouldn't you like some Ray Coniff music with breakfast?
Of course, the answer was no,  and he added that the other customers wouldn't want it either.
Really, I can't be … (17 comments)

Wordless Wednesday-Contrast - 10/13/10 08:43 PM
I love black and white photos but when it comes to the fall season, black and white does not make the cut as you will see from the contrast I have provided.
Yes the red, orange and yellow colors would be meaningless.  This made me think of how awesome the gift of sight is and the ability to see in color.
Enjoy the colors of fall.

Will you be part of the Red Hook 10% Challenge on 10-10?
A few days ago I ran into Sue Crane, the Red Hook NY Town Supervisor, at the Business Expo at Bard College.  Sue was enthusiastic about getting residents to sign up for the 10% challenge.
What is this challenge anyway? This is how it is defined on the website:
It is a call to reduce our town's energy use by ten percent over the next year and to get 10% of our co-workers, citizens, or social network involved. Here are 10 ways you can get involved:

The Cat who loved art - 10/09/10 11:23 PM

Today I stopped by this window to look at the artwork on display.  It was then that I noticed the cat who loved art. He was looking at the painting as if he was analyzing it.  Soon, others were drawn to the window.  Yes, this was one of those moments that brings a smile to your face.

Mom I think you should pull over! - 10/08/10 08:16 PM
No, I was not texting and driving but the situation really called for me to pull over and that was the best advice I received today. I was headed to the Albany area, but was not happy that the GPS took me up the Thruway. I think the GPS takes you the most round about way. On the way back I ditched the GPS and took a local road.  About 15 minutes into the trip I noticed something crawling on the dashboard, I was able to identify it as a spider.
I watched it crawl around and was able to deal with that until … (18 comments)

keep the mud out of my house! - 10/07/10 10:37 PM
keep the mud out of my house!
In the Northeast and I suspect many other places it has been rather rainy.  Today the sun came out and that can really lift the spirit.
Anyway, let me get back to my original thought.  If you are a real estate agent, listing properties, at some time or another you would have been given instructions by the home owner to have any visitor to the home remove their shoes.
Or you might have run into a sign like this one: Remove your shoes and don't let me have to tell you again.  Hilarious, but this … (14 comments)

Wordless Wednesday-Bonnie where is Clyde? - 10/06/10 10:41 PM

Back in August while on vacation my family and I were looking for something to do indoors and we just happened upon this car museum.
We had fun looking at all the cars and car parts.   This particular car caught my attention because there was a mannequin in the back.  We were told this was a gangster car and the woman was packing a piece, she must have been the lookout.

What type of a Home seller are you in this real estate market? - 10/05/10 11:44 PM
What type of a Home seller are you in this real estate market?
Sellers in today's real estate market fall into two basic categories:
Sellers who still don't get the market and have unrealistic expectations  Sellers who get it and are doing all they can to get their home sold. So, what are the characteristics of sellers who do not get the market? They:
List home for higher than the market can bear, and still expect the house to sell.  Are very slow to make a price reduction.  Still expect to get the home sold for what they need to get … (14 comments)

Please just don't buy a home on price - 10/04/10 11:58 PM
Please just don't buy a home on price
Over the years I have seen some consumers shop for a home just based on price.  These are the type of consumers that are all over the map and have a hard time making a decision
When purchasing a home there is much more to be considered.  So here are some questions you might want to ask yourself.  Of course, if you are working with an agent these should be covered:
If you are not self employed you might want to ask yourself.  How far am I willing to commute to work? How will I get … (14 comments)

Speechless Sunday - Spring seems like a distant memory - 10/03/10 11:22 PM
It seems like just yesterday we were going to plant sales and preparing the garden bed for plants.  Many of those flowering plants have stopped blooming or dried up.  Now as I watch the fall foliage the growing season seem like a distant memory.  One think I am thankful for is that this cycle will be repeated months from now.
In the meanwhile enjoy the colors.

Jamaica need less rain more sunshine - 10/02/10 11:51 PM

I am sure that if you are in the Carolinas you have felt the effects of the tropical depression Nicole.  Nicole is also playing havoc on the island of Jamaica.  Roads have been washed out, landslides are occurring and many are marooned in there homes because they are surrounded by water.
According the the weather report the ground is saturated and this has been verified by eyewitnesses.  I spoke to someone today who has had water in her house twice this week and it could happen again as rain is expected to continue for the next 48 hours.  The question is: where … (6 comments)
