Speechless Sunday-Would you trust this lifeguard? - 07/31/11 09:14 PM

Based on the definition of a lifeguard, one who looks out for the safety of swimmers and arranges for rescue, do you think you fit that bill?  Why should I put my life in your hands or rather wings?
I realize you are perched high and are at least looking in the right direction.  But, how would you handle lifting me out of the water or administering a mouth to mouth resuscitation?
After careful consideration I think I will take a pass on this beach.

Five things to do even if you are buying a house with cash. - 07/25/11 08:48 PM
So many times I see home buyers who are paying cash for a house forego doing some of the processes that would be normal in a transaction that is being financed. The truth is, if you neglect certain processes it could cost you big.
Here are my picks of things you should do even when only cash is involved in the purchase of a house.
Do a home inspection
If you don't do the inspection you might not be aware of some structural issues that could cost you big time in the long run. The condition of the septic system is … (22 comments)

Speechless Sunday July 24, 2011:Last bloom before the heatwave - 07/24/11 05:22 PM
I was happy admiring this orange colored bloom and then the heatwave struck. Yes, this was my last bloom; now the garden beds are dry. I tried watering, but, it was a scorcher like I have never seen and the plants wilted.  Will the flowers come out to play again? Or, is this going to be the shortest blooming season I have seen in a while?  In that case, I had better enjoy the last bloom just before the heatwave.

My agent did not bring me a buyer and should be fired - 07/23/11 10:48 PM

My agent did not bring me a buyer and should be fired.
Many who have their homes listed often wonder why their listing agent did not personally bring them a buyer.
There was a time here in the Mid-Hudson Valley when it was the norm for a listing agent to be the one bringing the buyer because that would be person the buyer would call.
Times have changed and more and more buyers seek to get their own representation, commonly referred to as a Buyer’s Agent. Buyer’s Agents, as the name implies, will look out for the interest of … (58 comments)

Wordless Wednesday-Handprint - 07/20/11 04:07 PM

Speechless Wednesday-Handprint   My children are grown and it is not often that I have little people as visitors.  This weekend I had three  little ones, and although we literally did not speak the same language we really had fun. So when my guests left I noticed this little gift on the wall.  Not only did I have a good laugh I decided I needed to take a shot of it for a keepsake. I think one of my little people wanted to remind me of the visit. My husband tried cleaning the wall but the stain was stubborn; I … (13 comments)

Hyde Park NY Real Estate Market Report For June 2011 - 07/17/11 11:23 PM

There were 5 single family detached homes sold in Hyde Park NY during June 2011.  When compared to the real estate market in Hyde Park in June 2010 there were 15 homes sold then.   This downward trend was noted in the other market reports in Dutchess County, and this should not be a surprise since the county sales report showed sales went down 40 percent.
Homes for sale in Hyde Park during June ranged in price from $90,000-$3,950,000.  The million dollar property offered over 6000 square feet.
The number of homes with offers, and in contract is a gauge for … (6 comments)

Speechless Sunday- Tree House. - 07/17/11 03:10 PM
You might be saying to yourself; This is a tree house?  How come it is not in a tree?
Actually this shot was taken at the Berkshire Botanical Gardens where designer tree houses were on display.  As you can see it was of interest to both a child and a young adult.
Did you have a tree house when you were growing up?
This tree house was rather cute, however, I would prefer one with a roof in case I get caught in a storm.

I once had a listing with a tree house perched in a tree on … (13 comments)

Come celebrate with Red Hook Community Arts Network next to Flatiron - 07/15/11 01:01 AM
Red Hook Community Arts Network is setting up an art gallery in donated space next to Flatiron.
This group came together from a brainstorming session of the Red Hook Chamber of Commerce; as it looked for ways to attract visitors to the Red Hook area.  The idea was to make the area an arts destination since there are many artists in the area, as well as Bard College a big supporter of the arts.
Over the last few days I have seen activities in the space, as the artists are busy hanging paintings for the big opening this Friday July 15, … (5 comments)

Dutchess County market report for June 2011 - 07/12/11 11:18 PM

Dutchess County Single Family Detached homes sold June 2011
Looking at the market report for June I was immediately struck by the drop in the number of single family detached homes sold this June when compared to same time last year.  There were 205 in June 2010 and only  125 in June 2011, a significant drop of 40 percent.  Looking at it from a different angle, when comparing the  sales dollar volume this June to last June it was off by $21,871,005.  However, when you look at the year to date the sales dollar volume is up by $1,838,641 this … (7 comments)

Speechless Sunday- Evening sky over Red Hook NY - 07/10/11 11:31 PM
Today was rather hectic,  however on my way home I enjoyed the evening sky over Red Hook NY.  The Catskill Mountain as a backdrop  and the open field certainly completed the scene.
So no matter how crazy our days might get, there is always a moment or a scene to provide a pleasant distraction; if only for a few moments.
Have a great week.

Cinnamon Indian Cuisine is a restaurant in Rhinebeck - 07/04/11 10:03 PM
Cinnamon Indian Cuisine is a restaurant in Rhinebeck specializing in Indian Cuisine.   This restaurant opened just a few weeks ago and I recently visited for the second time.
------
On my second visit I had the opportunity to speak with Shiwanthi Widyarathra one of the owners, and discovered that she relocated from Fairfield Connecticut where she was a partner in another restaurant.
Shiwanthi said she is looking forward to serving fresh Southern Indian Cuisine to consumers in this region.
Since I am a lover of Indian food I can truly say I welcomed her to the area.  The restaurant is tastefully … (10 comments)

What can you do if your house is for sale in the summer and you don't have air conditioning? - 07/04/11 12:55 PM
Selling your home in the summer without air conditioning does present a problem especially on those very hot days.  I have shown vacant homes in the winter and these are usually so cold that buyers don't hang around, likewise on a hot summer day buyers won't stick around if they are uncomfortable.
There are many steps you can take to make the home cooler even without air conditioning.   I have met sellers who personally did not like air conditioning but when it comes to buying a home this is a consideration for buyers.
Here are a 7  tips that will … (14 comments)

Mango Kulfi the dessert that made my night. - 07/02/11 11:14 PM
Mango Kulfi was the perfect dessert to end a lovely evening. I grew up with mangoes raining down on the roof of the house. I can still see that large mango tree.
Mango happens to my favorite fruit and a very versatile one. You can make chutney, ice cream, salsa, lassi and much more from mangoes.
The Mango Kulfi is actually called the Indian ice-cream very easy to make and here is a recipe on About.com you might want to try.
Then you too could have a dessert to make your night.
