Double Rainbow and wind post hurricane Irene in Red Hook NY - 08/30/11 09:07 PM
On Sunday the double rainbow and wind post-Irene was a real treat after a day couped up in the house with no electricity. Even at such a time nature still displays lovely eye candy. Since I did not have electricity I could enjoy the moment as I was unaware of the misery my neighbors to the west were enduring. Irene might not have lived up to the hype but that's what storms do, they are unpredictable. Who would have thought Vermont would have gotten hit so hard? This was just a reminder to us all that there are things we have (9 comments)
Fhoto Friday-Will the sun shine this weekend? - 08/26/11 11:44 PM
This evening I saw this sunset; and today was a beautiful day. With hurricane Irene knocking on our doors I wondered if the sun will shine this weekend? I have survived many hurricanes, and I can tell you it is important to follow the directives given regarding evacuating your home. I will admit as a child it was fun watching the trees bend over as if to kiss the ground. I even thought it was cool watching the water rise but as I matured it wasn't so funny anymore. I finally got it, people died, animals and crops were washed away. The (16 comments)
Wordless Wednesday-Dragonfly - 08/24/11 11:44 PM
Today I saw this dragonfly basking in the sun and I could not leave it alone. I did not have my camera, how did that happen? However I did have my cellphone and it suddenly hit me; I did have a camera so I took a couple shots. When I placed the camera almost on its head it flew away. I would be annoyed too :)

Why maintaining your septic system is so important - 08/22/11 08:55 AM
If you live outside of a city, instead of a sewer system you might be dealing with a septic system. Over the years I have had to deal with this issue when listing a home or representing a buyer. What are some of the septic issues I have encountered Homeowners total failure to ever pump the septic. Can't locate the septic Old metal tanks Septic backup Problem with the leach field. Homeowners adding bathrooms without permit The recommendation for pumping the septic is: every 2 to 10 years. This will be determined by usage. If you like to throw a party (17 comments)
Speechless Sunday an open septic tank - 08/21/11 11:19 PM
Dealing with a septic system is something most of us would rather not have to do. Ignoring it could be rather costly. Here is an open septic tank. Tomorrow I will tell you more about a septic system, and show you a video of one being pumped.
I recently was at an inspection where the septic failed, this could have been avoided

Saugerties NY Historic Kiersted House - 08/20/11 11:10 PM
Saugerties NY Historic Kiersted House was built in 1727 and was the home of Dr. Kiersted who rendered services to participants of the revolutionary war. This site is open from May to October on Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4PM. When I visited recently I was speaking to a member of the Historical Society Board and he told me they actually developed a board game of Saugerties called Saugertopoly to celebrate Saugerties bicentennial this year, and as a fundraiser. The game can be purchased at the Kiersted House and I have heard players have stayed up all night playing it. Location: 119 Main Street (7 comments)

Yesterday I held an Open House at 7 Fir St, Red Hook NY, and Steve Weiss a Mortgage Originator with Residential Home Funding Corp co-hosted and provided the refreshment. I did not know at the time that Steve was an AR member, it looks like he joined earlier this year. Anyway we were sitting there and I had my camera ready to take a video of the home when I suddenly came up with the idea to interview Steve. He was game so I turned on the camera. '
Please stop by Steve's blog and say hello. (11 comments)

Speechless Sunday-Take a bath and have lunch - 08/14/11 10:08 PM
I saw this scene yesterday and I just could not resist. The outdoor dining set right next to the bath tub; yes take a quick bath and then have lunch. On second thought, that is not a great idea since it is outdoors :) So what do you find interesting about this photo?
Saugerties Art Studio Tour still time to catch it - 08/13/11 11:06 PM
The Saugerties Art Studio Tour started today August 13th and I had the opportunity to drop in on a few of the artists. I first stopped by the studio of Michael Nelson, a photogragher who worked with film for over 30 years and is now embracing digital photography. I found his work interesting and had the opportunity to see a field camera, one similar to those used by artists like Fredrick Church of the Hudson River School of painting.
Stopping by the studio of Susan Sammis was a real treat, I liked her work with items found naturally, for example (7 comments)
Dutchess County Real Estate Market Report July 2011 - 08/13/11 08:24 PM
Dutchess County Single Family Detached homes sold July 2011 During July the Dutchess County Real Estate Market had a big improvement over July 2010. 52 more homes sold this year. What happened in July 2010? Consumers made use of the tax credit earlier in the year so by July the sales dipped. Last June sales were 82 more than this June, an indication of the impact of the tax credit. Then things changed and July 2010 had the lowest recorded sales in a 10 year period for single family detached homes in July. (3 comments)

Hyde Park NY Real Estate Market Report For July 2011 - 08/10/11 11:50 PM
In July 2011 there were 7 homes sold in Hyde Park NY. The homes sold ranged from $165,000-$282,500. About 28 homes came on the market during the month all of them were priced below $400,000 with the exception of a 8039 square feet home priced at $1,495,000. Looking at the homes in contract or with an offer most of the homes were priced just under $200,000. This seems like a good market for finding an affordable house. SEARCH FOR HOMES IN HYDE PARK

Wordless Wednesday - Steely Dan concert at Tanglewood - 08/10/11 06:45 PM
Recently I went to a Steely Dan concert at Tangewood. Okay, I knew the name of the band and the connection to nearby Bard College but not much more. I don't get invited too often to a concert - not since I slept through Aretha Franklin's concert and awoke to say how disappointed I was that she did not sing Respect (She actually did). How do you ever overcome something like that? My husband wrote this review of the Steely Dan concert.
Rhinebeck and Village of Rhinebeck NY Real Estate Market Report for July 2011 - 08/09/11 11:30 PM
Between the Town of Rhinebeck and the Village there were only 2 homes sold this July; 4 less than in July 2010 when there were 3 sales in the town and 3 in the village. Of the 5 homes to come on the marke,t 3 were located on River Road, so named as it runs along the Hudson River. These homes ranged from $634,000-$8,490,000. Between the town and village of Rhinebeck there were (8 comments)
Speechless Sunday-Pamela's Java Hut - 08/07/11 11:58 PM
Recently I was at an inspection near Fishkill and I was really looking around for a place to catch a quick bite. I saw Pamela's Java Hut and decided to go inside because of the decoration. The palms tree and hut made me think of the Caribbean, then when I entered the music was also Caribbean. Now I can't remember what I ate but it was good. So if you are in Fishkill and looking for a quick bite or a cup of coffee or tea Pamela's Java Hut is a good choice. Funny, you never know what might be a (14 comments)
Red Hook New York Real Estate Market Report for - July 2011 - 08/06/11 11:38 PM
The Red Hook real estate market for July showed 5 homes sold in the town and 1 in the village, an improvement of 2 sales over July 2010. It was also noted that the average sale price this year was $382,700 much higher than the $226,000 last year. It is good to see some activity in the price ranges that were seeing little activity. There was a sale in the 400's and another in the 600's. Of the 6 homes sold 5 had price reductions before getting an offer and the average days on market was 137. Included in homes with contracts or offers is a historically (6 comments)
Wordless Wednesday-Tree house with a view - 08/03/11 11:58 PM
The only reason I would want to go up in a tree house would be because of an awesome view, or maybe not, just a bit too high as far as I am concern. This particular tree house does have a wonderful view but is not recommended for kids, if you see what I mean.

Who is in the driver’s seat when it comes to choosing properties for a home tour, agent or buyer? - 08/01/11 10:09 PM
Who is in the driver’s seat when it comes to choosing properties for a home tour, agent or buyer? For the second time in a week I have heard sellers say,” oh, the big firms won’t show my house because they have lots of inventory so they will show only their in-house listings.” Could this be true? First, it would be downright unethical to eliminate properties that fit your client’s criteria just because they were not listed with your firm. I then took a step back and looked at how the buyers I have worked with recently approached their home (40 comments)
