A free Percussion Concert will be held at the Sosnoff Theater at the Fisher Center on the Bard Campus.  We are fortunate to have a cultural icon such as the Fisher Cenetr in our backyard.
I am sure you are familiar with percussion instruments such as drums and pipes, however there are hundreds of percussion instruments.  At the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston there are about 1100 items from around the world.

bard college: Proud Mama - 05/29/10 11:46 PM
Okay so I am a proud mama.  A week ago my son Jonathan graduated from Bard College with a major in mathematics.
Because of the existing economic climate this crop of college graduates could be facing a tough time however I suspect this could be a character building period.  A time when things are not just handed to you, and more decision making will go into the choices made.
So congratulations and best wishes to all you 2010 graduates and best wishes with finding a job.
And Jonathan one last instruction put that math degree to good use!
Spoken like a proud … (38 comments)

bard college: Wordless Wednesday - Scene from Bard College - 12/10/08 07:19 AM

This is a scene you will encounter on the beautiful grounds at Blithewood on Bard College campus.  I was really intrigued, and as a result wrote a post about this, which you can read here. There is alway a lesson that we can learned from nature.

bard college: If this tree did it, so can you! - 07/22/08 09:55 AM
I love to take a walk now and then on the grounds of Bard college.  One of my favorite spots is the manicured lawn and gardens of the Levy Economic Institute.  Blithewood was another lovely Hudson Valley Mansion with great views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains.

s
This post however is not about this ideal setting, but rather about a tree that seems so out of place but you can't help but love it.
From the plaque erected in front of the tree it is believed that this tree has been around 350 years and is most likely the oldest tree … (30 comments)

bard college: Montgomery Place Another Great Hudson River Estate - 07/13/08 07:36 AM

This was the home of Janet Livingston Montgomery a member of one of the largest land owning families of the time.  Alexander Jackson Davis a well known architect of the time was responsible for the design.
Montgomery Place  was constructed in 1805 on 434 beautiful acres with views of the Hudson River and Catskills Mountains.   The beautiful grounds showcase lovely roses and herb gardens as well as an orchard.  Just the other day I took a leisurely walk on the grounds, enjoyed the great views, the beautiful hemlock trees, walked down a long path until I ended up at a great waterfall … (16 comments)

bard college: Taste Budds a Red Hook Gem - 12/26/07 07:55 PM

Taste Budds a chocolate and coffee cafe was opened in the village of Red Hook by Dan Budd.  The first time I saw Chef Budd was at a wine tasting event where he gave an awesome baking demonstration.
This is no ordinary coffee house, here you can get all types of coffee and espresso drinks, sandwiches and most of all, all kinds of chocolate desserts - and now fresh fudge.  Because Chef Budd is a trained chef from the Culinary Institute of America, once you have had his desserts you will come back for more.
The atmosphere is welcoming so it is not unusual for people to … (11 comments)

bard college: Scenes From Red Hook NY 12571 - 11/21/06 11:06 PM
The Merritt Bookstore is located in the center of Red Hook, where Rte 199 and Route 9 intersect.  This store is one of three stores owner my Scott Meyers.  The other two store are in Millbrook and Coldspring.  It is common to see many book signing here.  Annie Leibovitz is one celebrity who has signed books at this location more than once.
Red Hook was once a one light town.  This pharmacy was always used as a landmark.
This was once the old telephone company.                    Then, it was a doctor's office, most recently a real estate office.
This buiding houses several small businesses and residential rentals … (3 comments)
