Red Hook home sales in November 2016
The Red Hook home sales in November 2016 update showed sales this November was twice that of November 2015 when there were two sales.  The Sale price to list price of the homes sold  came in at 96 percent.
The homes sold were built between 1902 and 1973, with square footage ranging from 2310 to 3156.
On the other hand the average price trended down this November which was not a surprise since in November  2015 there was a million dollar sale which was not the case this year.   The  Median price did come in a … (4 comments)

ny: Otto's Market in Germantown New York - 03/07/12 12:54 PM
Otto's Market in Germantown New York.

Otto's Market is located in Germantown a Columbia County  town North of Red Hook.  The market is located right in the center of town.   It occupies the space which was once known as the Central Market.
How important is Otto's Market to Germantown?
Otto's Market is truly a vital part of the community because there are no supermarket in town.  The nearest supermarkets can be found in Red Hook 15 minutes away or in Hudson  about 15 minutes away.
Although Otto's occupies a relatively small space you would be amazed at the variety of … (5 comments)

ny: Wordless Wednesday|Bridge over the Hudson River - 10/26/11 04:28 PM
Over a year ago I was on the Amtrak heading for New York City.  This ride is scenic as the train track runs along the Hudson River.   I always try to get as many pictures as I can, especially of the bridges.
Here is a shot of a bridge over the Hudson River I took on that trip.

ny: Speechless Sunday - A Bridge to nowhere - 01/31/10 03:35 PM

This was one of the scene I capture from my trip on the train.  I first called it a bridge to nowhere but looking closer that is not entirely true; more like a bridge to an icy dip in the Hudson River.  I can't imagine why it has been left dangling like that.

On the Hudson River you do see many sites, once such site is the Roundout(Kingston) Lighthouse which sits at the mouth of the Roundout Creek where it connects to the river.
This lighthouse is open for tour from May to October, and access is via boats.
When you are through with the tour, you might want to stop at the Roundout where you will find a maritime museum, shops and many fine restaurants.  For example you can pull right up to the Steele  Restaurant in your boat.
I know it is cold right now but this is a great time to … (4 comments)

ny: Speechless Sunday - Snow at sunrise - 12/06/09 08:57 AM
The first snowfall was such a pleasure, and I managed to enjoy it at different stages.
First I watched it fall and then I took pictures when it got dark.  This morning was exciting. I was just expecting to take more pictures and then I saw the moon, but, there was more. Next, came sunrise and I watched the effect of the sunlight on the snow.
This first snowfall reminded me why I love each season.

This was the sun just beginning to show itself in the east

This was some time later and the sun was shining brighter

ny: Budds Corner to Pitcher Lane - Red Hook NY - 11/01/09 03:42 PM
Budds Corner is located between Route 9 and Route 9G in the town of Red Hook.  So named after the Budds family and there are still members of this family residing on this street.
On Budds Corner can be found a couple large farms.  I was once told that the corn crop need to be knee high by the the begining of July so when I go by in the summer I make a mental note.
This is also a great spot t to shoot some lovely sunsets.
One of my favorite spot on this road is going by a farm where … (10 comments)

ny: Condos in Northern Dutchess County NY - 10/27/09 04:52 PM
I would have to say that condos make up a small part of the new and resale market in Northern Dutchess.
Northern Dutchess condos are perfect for people downsizing because they don't want to take care of a house or as an investment made by parents to insure their  student have a place to live while at college. Also Popular  with young professionals.
1.  Condos are governed by covenants and bylaws and are enforced by the condo association.  When considering a purchase these documents should be reviewed prior to signing a contract; because you would want to know about any restrictions as well as … (9 comments)

ny: Old Dutch Village Garden Club Annual Plant and Bake Sale - May 22, 2009 - 05/19/09 04:05 PM
The Old Dutch Village Garden Club annual plant sale is a great place to get plants for your garden, and the timing is perfect since here in Red Hook the advice is to put in your plants after Memorial Day.
This is a popular event since the plants are reasonable priced, they will go rather quickly so the trick is to get there early.  Then after you have secured your plants go over to the the bake goods table and I know you won;t be disappointed.
The Old Dutch Village Garden Club help to maintain a several parks, gives a scholarship to a graduating … (17 comments)

ny: Tranquility A SPA in Red Hook NY - 04/01/09 06:59 AM
I first met Sally Ann McGlade at a  Mid Hudson Women Networking even. She was so warm and welcoming that I was not surprised to learn that she was the owner of a spa.

Tranquilty is a day SPA located in the village of Red Hook and has been in operation for the last 2 1/2 years.  According to Sally Ann, now more than ever, we all need to take time out to pamper ourselves and her spa caters both to women and men.
Sally has over 25 years in the beauty business and has also worked as an instructor at a … (13 comments)
