speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday -Bug time - 06/15/14 04:04 PM
Bug time
Now that the weather is good and we want to enjoy the outdoors, this comes with a few pest, yes it is bug time.   I was at an event and I was reminded of this because I could smell insect repellant.
It might be bug time but don't let that stop you from having fun outdoors.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday - Time - 11/09/13 03:45 PM
I think the older I get the more time seem to go by quickily, with that in mind I realize how important it is to make good use of time because you can't get it back once it is gone.
Have a great Sunday whether you are working or  just playing.

speechless sunday: Nature's contrast-speechless Sunday - 05/26/13 04:07 PM
I was spending a weekend in Stockbridge MA a few weeks ago.  At that time the new leaves were coming in; I so love the early greenery.
I then happened up on a scene which got my attention, three large trees except the one in the middle was either dead or the leaves were late.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday-An archway I could not resist - 05/12/13 02:02 PM
The Archway
I am sure you will agree with me that this archway is irresistible.  I love archways, they make such good photography subject.
Take this archway for example; I love the brown and white washed bricks and the arch is perfectly framed by green leaves.  Then as you look through the arch you are tempted to follow the path.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday | Leaves - 10/20/12 04:57 PM
This is a great time of year to take a closer look at the leaves that have fallen, or the few left on the trees.
This is an opportunity to teach the children about plants, starting by identifying a tree by the leaves.
There are also other projects that can be done with the leaves.  Here are 8 fun things to do with leaves

What do you do with the colorful leaves you picked up?

speechless sunday: Stunning Gate House|Speechless Sunday - 09/15/12 04:02 PM
This Stunning Gatehouse is the Ward Manor located on the Bard Campus just down the road from the Fisher Center.  On this campus you will find very old structure, and then ultra modern ones.
I have always gone by the Ward Manor Gatehouse during the day, so it was nice to get a shot when there were lights on just after sunset.

speechless sunday: Boats|Speechless Sunday - 09/09/12 03:58 PM
Boats
I could not resist this shot, I just loved the way the boats were lined up, and in such a peaceful setting. On the Cape I never seem to run out of  great eye candy.
I know very little about boats, all the boats had a square bottom.   Is there a particular use for them?

speechless sunday: Swans with the olympic fever | Speechless Sunday - 08/05/12 03:55 PM
It sure looks like these swans or ducks have the olympic fever.  Do you think they are participating in  the 200 or 400 relay?  I wonder if any world record will be broken?  Will the friendship be intacted after the race?  In any case, it sure looks  like they are off to a very slow start.  Let's wish them well.

speechless sunday: Lovely day, horses, who could ask for more ? | Speechless Sunday - 06/17/12 01:50 PM
Today I took a ride on a beautiful country road in Columbia County, an area popular with second home buyers.  I was enjoying the ride but I got very excited when I came across these  beautiful horses grazing near Apple Barn Farm a very popular country wedding destination.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday | Crying out for help - 02/26/12 11:42 AM
Crying out for help
Today I had my hands filled with towels as I headed for the laundry room.  On the way I kicked over a plant,  what bad timing.  I really did not have the time for the mess.  There was dirt all over the floor and in the rug.  Well I couldn't just leave it, so I dropped the laundry and bend over to take a closer look.  I discovered that the plant was badly in need of water and had outgrown the pot.
Oh! maybe I was tripped by the plant it was crying out for help.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday |Misty Morning - 02/05/12 03:38 PM
Misty Morning
I was on my way  to put signs up on a parcel of land I had listed when I ran across the morning mist.  There is always something intriguing about going through the mist, and down this country road there was much to see. When I came to this barn with the beautiful landscape behind it I just had to stop and take a shot, this was my favorite scene of that misty morning.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday|The Outhouse - 01/15/12 03:45 PM

Living in the Hudson Valley I run across buildings from other periods.   Over the years of have seen a variety of outhouses.  Some were ornate and other were just plain.
The one in the photography was on the grounds of Cedar Grove one of the many Historic sites to be found in the area.  I must say the colors certainly make you take a second look,

speechless sunday: Barn | Speechless Sunday - 12/18/11 04:00 PM

I can never resist taking photos of barns.  I like ones that are perfectly restored however  my favorite subjects are the broken down ones.
Because agriculture was and still is a major player in the Hudson Valley economy you will find all types in the region.
I have seen barns converted into homes, rental apartments, studios, offices, and space for events such as weddings.  Lets not forget the orignal purpose of these barns to house animals, hay and grains.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday|Walking Log - 10/09/11 01:36 PM
I spotted this walking log on a train ride in the Berkshires on Saturday.  I was hoping for more color but it just wasn't to be found, so I decided to make the best of things by focusing on  and photographing the things I passed along the way.
I saw the log in the distance and was delighted I was able to capture it from the moving train.  My interpretation of this scene is a log about to walk across a stream.  What I like about a photograph or a painting is that each person can have a different interpretation. So, what comes to mind when … (19 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday|No Fingers and toes and you cross the Atlantic in a boat? - 10/02/11 10:21 AM
I don't know how much I would accomplished without fingers and toes.  On a recent trip to Gloucester MA I came across this plaque which left me speechless.
A certain Captain Blackburn took not one but two trips across the Atlantic although he had no fingers and toes.  I found this such an inspirational story.

Would you cross the Atlantic in a boat if you had no fingers and toes?

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday-Apples - 09/04/11 12:48 PM
I decided on apples for my Speechless Sunday.  Why? Because an apple is a fruit that almost everyone is familiar with, either in the form of baby food, pies, or salads, you name it.
Apples come in many varieties. It is estimated that world wide there are over 7,500 varieties. Here are more apple facts.
Did you know that New York State is the second largest producer of apples?  That will come as a surprise to many who might think of New York as the land of Skyscrapers.  Actually, the state has a vast amount of farmland.
So, apples happen to be an important part … (13 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday an open septic tank - 08/21/11 04:19 PM
Dealing with a septic system is something most of us would rather not have to do.  Ignoring it could be rather costly.
Here is an open septic tank.   Tomorrow I will tell you more about a septic system, and show you a video of one being pumped.

I recently was at an inspection where the septic failed, this could have been avoided

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday-Pamela's Java Hut - 08/07/11 04:58 PM
Recently I was at an inspection near Fishkill and I was really looking around for a place to catch a quick bite.  I saw Pamela's Java Hut and decided to go inside because of the decoration.  The palms tree and hut made me think of the Caribbean, then when  I entered the music was also Caribbean.  Now I can't remember what I ate but it was good.
So if you are in Fishkill and looking for a quick bite or a cup of coffee or tea Pamela's Java Hut  is a good choice.
Funny, you never know what might be a … (14 comments)

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday-Would you trust this lifeguard? - 07/31/11 02:14 PM

Based on the definition of a lifeguard, one who looks out for the safety of swimmers and arranges for rescue, do you think you fit that bill?  Why should I put my life in your hands or rather wings?
I realize you are perched high and are at least looking in the right direction.  But, how would you handle lifting me out of the water or administering a mouth to mouth resuscitation?
After careful consideration I think I will take a pass on this beach.

speechless sunday: Speechless Sunday-Do Not Disturb - 06/05/11 02:41 PM
Recently I was looking at my plants when I noticed a spider sitting on one of my sedum.  Unfortunately for him he forgot to put out the DO Not Disturb sign. So, I took out my camera and started taking a couple of shots.  He was not pleased and so quickly scurried away.
I suppose he was trespassing by landing on my plant, so, I was in the clear:)
